Nobody, but NOBODY works harder at his craft than Payton Pritchard. Dude self-made himself into the FREAKING NBA. This is a guy who truthfully based on physical tools should've topped out playing high school ball and maybe Division III ball somewhere before going into commercial real estate or becoming a personal trainer. He's the quiet unassuming young white guy you see on the suburban playgrounds hooping it up. Yeah, THAT GUY made it to the NBA through sheer, inhuman force of will. His physical limitations will be tough to overcome in a league of genetic freaks like the NBA but I wouldn't bet against him. Closest comparison I can think of is TJ McConnell, a solid rotational point guard who's not a star at the NBA level but always professional.

I remember driving 3 hours to Portland to watch Payton's high school state game. I watched as he navigated the court with precision and poise unlike any other player he was up against. However, I still had my concerns as to his candidacy during college. He developed into a fine player and I actually watched him multiple times against OSU (where I went to school). I watched as each year he continued to develop into a better version of himself, solidify the things he was great at, and add to his arsenal. I still didn't think he would do well in the NBA (always had a feeling he would get drafted) for some reason, so I'm really glad as an Oregon native to see him crushing it! Hope he can keep finding it because he is fun to watch!

Well cut & made video. My opinion: If "Fear" is referring to now, it is wayyyy over stated (too early & most teams are just tooling & tuning at this pt with short season without summer league, training camp & pre-season) though I really like Pritchard. Smart is not "more of a shooting guard." He's the best passer on the Celtics in the last 5 seasons, way better than Kemba, Kyrie & IT4. Now, Pritchard & Teague are both 2nd best passer & crafty PGs who can play combo & catch & shoot on the team. Pritchard's handles is tops not just on the Celtics but in the league, which gives him strong confidence in keeping the dribble to make plays (obviously, he is extremely poise as he never looked lost in any of the games played so far). Pritchard clearly has the best range & quick release of any of the players on the team (maybe except Nesmith if he ever gets his shot going). What sets him apart is the defensive end. He did make some rookie mistakes but he has been so quick to pick up the Celtics' defensive system & he is surprisingly strong for his size, & with excellent read & anticipation. Super high IQ playmaker, versatile & potential clutch shooter.
If he continues with this trend (steal of draft?), even if Kemba comes back, he will still avg about 16 mins a game. Mins will be reduced for Smart & Kemba to preserve them for playoffs to about 28-31 mins max, & hv Teague & Pritchard play 14-16 mins / game depending on matchups. Stevens has shown he is willing to play the super small lineups Raptors played every now & then to space the floor for the wings &/or get 3s. Pritchard is very suitable for this role. He showed flashes of FVF as well. If he can continue his D, he will continue to have the trust of Stevens. He will lose mins if his D is off.

Pritchard is going to be a starting guard in 3- 5 years. Has the BB-skills to be good now. With hard work and the attitude he has he will be an NBA all star if able to stay healthy.

I like this kid a lot but the truth is that at the NBA level he’s a backup pg at best. He absolutely cannot beat a man off the dribble. His best hope is to become a knock down 3 point shooter.

He's a pure shooter and have the confidence of an NBA seasoned veteran. He'll be an All-Star on a team without selfish stars like Tatum who takes the shot even if fully contested and a veteran like Smart who has a big head now and mostly blow games because of not sharing the ball to newbies who is worthy like Pritchard.
