SUBTITLES COMING LATER
I'm exploring in China with Robin and Charles.
This time we visit some huge abandoned state factories. 1 is a 120 year old textile factory which was the pioneer of the Chinese textile industry and a silk factory which was built in 1958, the first year of the "Great Leap Forward" project led by chairman Mao during the Communist era.
Venture with us inside an see that these are not ordinary factories and also see some production halls which are completely left intact with all machinery.

Hello, I am a Chinese viewer. I circumvent the wall to watch foreign news and programs. Of course, I also follow you. You need to be careful in these places. The situation in China is different from before. Don’t be discovered. If you are discovered, you may be in trouble. Many of these places were arsenals in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, which was also a very scary period, the Cultural Revolution.
装的不够像
I was thinking the same thing. Chinese government won’t play around if they were caught
I am a local in China. The situation now is different from before. There are many voices against the West in China. The Espionage Law will be implemented this year. If you are caught, they will not let you go easily. This is not a joke. Please pay attention to your safety.
@@matthewdevine113 I am worried for the locals he is bringing with him. As Facial Recognition is one of China's strongest surveillance tools. Plus exposing the cars they drive, the roads they drove in on, and that one of them owns a business. It seems like a very dangerous proposition for them.
Thanks a lot mate! I have been careful. Now it’s time for some other parts in the world.
Fantastic journey into the past!
I'm trying to imagine what this must have looked like with all the workers being busy and how noisy it must have been with all these machines rattling away. Awesome explore!
Thanks! Must have been such a bustling and noisy place.
So strange to see the old equipment in the building, great explore!
Despite the age of these old factories and them being taken over by vegetation they are in remarkable condition. Much better condition than some newer buildings.
Another Awesome video Bob! All your videos are amazing and keep up the great work! Hardest working guy on RUclips!!
Love industrial urbex, great work! Thanks for having me along. :😊
Thanks! More coming up
Not only do I love how amazing the videos are but the amount of knowledge you share is amazing I love it !
Brilliant video Bob. Some beautiful old machines there
Love a good factory explore. Inspired me a whole bunch over the years. I don't get out much but I collect pieces found at places you explore. Thanks again.
So excellent plus with Charles to translate & Robin too - very cool! Thanks!
WOW! Bob the architecture is amazing but those milling machines look like they could just start running again, with a little grease and oil ! Amazing video thanks !! 😱😱😱
Thanks Linda! Glad you enjoyed. Next episode is another gigantic theme park. My favorite 😄🤩
Hi Bob!! Another fascinating explore! Wishing you the best💜😻
Thanks! In the following weeks I will be posting a lot :)

Thank you for sharing your exploration, Bob.
Love your videos, keep them coming
great discovery and fascinating to see abandoned factories in other countries.. also like that this was basically a time capsule. and NO graffiti or vandalism.
bravo Bob on another great adventure.
Thanks Matt :) Today I'll upload another theme park. After that a cruise ship and an aircraft carrier :)
Amazing vídeo!!!
Thanks so much!!
Thanks a lot for checking out!
Great job Bob amazing video thanks for showing it to us. Very interesting episode.
Thanks Bill! Loved this one
Absolutely stunning location, your guide explained the silk processing very well. Great to to see small details like the adding machines which are called Abacus calculators.👍
Thanks for the comment and extra info😇
Wow. What a place. Looks huge. Thanks for sharing 😁👍👍
This was excellent! Great job.
Real good job to permitt to all of us to see that. Fantastic footage thks a lot.
🙏 Thanks a lot. I have also posted other cool locations in China like an aircraft carrier, underground train workshop, massive theme parks and more!🤩
thanks bob pour cette incroyable visite✌️
Echt een giga fabriek daar wow interessante explore bedankt Bob.
Thanks Rolf! 😎 China heeft veel interessante plekken!
It was wild how the vines almost completely covered those factory walls
Love these videos! Thanks Bob!
Thanks! Some highlights coming up in the next months
This is a very beautiful episode. These are important historical records that will be viewed time and again in the future by scholars. Here in Prague, Czech Republic, I'm sure there are factories that of a similar design. Though the factories that formed a large part of the city ( especially the north east of the city ) are rapidly being demolished and replaced by apartments. Close to me, the "Koh i Noor" factory that I used to hear working when waiting on my tram just a couple of years before Covid times, has been cleared of equipment. They made buttons, and snap buttons, and safety pins, and hairpins. We got a tour as part of the annual "Open House" festival.
They used to make quality pens too I believe?
Thanks for the info! I indeed explored some intact factories in Czech too but did not made an episode there😎 Should look into more of those😄
@@beaustoioff6182 Yes, but not in that premises. It's about to be turned into apartments.
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath If you have an email address I can send you some pics from the open day.

Protect the factory...very informative 🎉🎉
the red thing and the bench are made from what are called shuttles
Thanks for the info😇😇
Nice place thanks for a video.
Excellent as always bob 👍😁
Thanks mate 😎
Cool vid, that red piece you had in your hand is a bobbin, it holds the silk or thread.
Wow i love all the vines growing up the buildings. Truly scenes from the Walking Dead
Thanks! Have you seen some of the Fukushima series? More post-apocalyptic than that it doesn’t get! But yes.. the decay in this place is epic 🌿
Amazing Bob
very interesting , Ive never seen this sort of thing from this country.great video.
In most places I’m the first Western guy to explore it🙂
I really enjoyed this Chinese Factories Adventure. Thanks Bob 😊 👍
Thanks! Much more coming up😎
It is really creepy and also exciting !!! You are really extraordinary my friend 😃
Thanks Eren! Unique ship episodes coming up in November and December
Welcome my dear friend. We will be looking forward to see them 🤩@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath
just accrued to me... I probably have an old silk tie in my closet that was probably made with silk fabric that came from one of those factories.
A big chance it is indeed! They did a lot of international business
Wauw mooie fabriekshallen wat een goede lichtinval ook.
Echt gave fabrieken ja ✌️ Er komen nog meer!
Incredible location, and production quality! At 7:50 that was a Sony U-matic video editing suite, that uses 3/4 inch video cassettes. Machines were likely Sony VO-5850 and the dusty console is the edit controller, Sony RM-440 dating from the late 70's but these were used right through to the 90's. I used to repair that stuff every day!
Oooo cool! What a coincidence. 😄Thanks for the additional info!
Hi Bob!
It's Mike in Florida; good show!
👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Mike! 😁Florida … nice
Impressive place, and impressive decay 👍
Good job Bob and great work and the same goes for your Chinese friends.
wow thanks for this video it owesome to see this old building and equipment
Complimenti bellissime esplorazioni e montaggio video eccezionale 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching! Some epic ones coming up in the upcoming months
Amazing Video 😮
Another Great video no doubt! Huge and nice building ! I wonder why these buildings are not repurposed for some other activities.
👍👍👍 Bob .
Thanks mate 😁😎🤩
4:27 Many, if not most, state factories in China back in the 1950-1990s had armories and militia departments (武裝部). Workers who were also militiamen were organized into military units that are under command of the militia department of their factory. This arrangement was made out of concerns of major wars.
Thanks Peter for the info! Pretty crazy!
That thing that you held in your hand at 12 minutes and 31 seconds is called a shuttlecock. It must be passed through the machine by hand for each stitch. Tossed from end to end. Someone did that with great risk to their personal well-being. Because those machines go so fast. Textile industry was big around here in North Carolina in the same time frame. Many people were injured or even killed by those powerful machines
another awesome Sub Ex from the Doyen of Urban Exploration!
Thanks mate! Cool stuff coming up
Really love that you added some historical context for these places, it's really fascinating. Hope everyone involved is safe, I'm sure doing this kind of thing in China is very risky.
Thanks for watching! Every location worldwide is a risk. I have been charged for espionage in Europe so🥹
Thank you
Wonderful place to explore.
It was! A lot of highlights coming up
12:28 That's called a shuttle.
awesome! ty gentleman!
Thanks for watching!😎
You should come a explore abandoned places in South Africa and Namibia.
Been to both countries to explore! (Did not film anything) South Africa I might go back one day to visit some old industrial places 😄
Those dam bees! 😂😂 Thanks for another great exploration video!
Haha yeah.. when editing I could hear them flying around too😂
This is sick I would love to do this 😅 but I don’t really have the money to go anywhere and I live in Australia any keep the amazing videos In definitely going to keep watching you guys
I need to travel far too and have to work day and night for it. Start to look around and explore in your area.
Just imagine how loud it was on the floors with all the machines going at once.
That was a massssive facility and the records they still have prestine wow
need to step my game up
I am five minutes in and liking you guys very much. No one else seems to care about architecture or history. Just a bunch of aye wholes trespassing not knowing anything. Good luck and be safe.
It is truly fascinating to see how much the fear of war permeated the mind of the Chinese and other communist countries. We see it everywhere but in western nations. Life was so different for these people. It's like a different world. Thanks Bob. Sure wish you would have had more time to take some close up shots of all that amazing equipment, but I understand your constraints. Keep safe : )
Hey Bob, Erik hier weer...mooie vid ! , ben zelf ook 3 x in China geweest, ben verbaasd wat je allemaal mag of kan filmen ! 🙏🏻maar ben je nog veilig jungske ? , geen gedonder gehad ? Greetz oet Grunn Erik 👍🏻
Haha.. ik ben veilig thuis😎
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath Chèchè Bob ha ha ! 😎👍🏻
WOW nice ping pong table 7:45
It is!🤩
Interesting parallels with Albania, Bob 🤔
Thanks for checking! Guess you’ll see this architecture in many ex Soviet countries too. 😁
Does anyone know if theres a video anywhere of somebody operating the machines u need to see how they work
Bob, it seems to me that the companies that owned the abandoned factories are still in business, but they shutdown production of those factories due to inefficiency.
You are right! Still running or used by other companies.
These Chinese videos are the most interesting. There is so much of China Westerns don’t know about it. This is endlessly fascinating.
Thanks! As far as I know we’re the first Western people in most places.
looks quite tidy for a building that has been empty for so long.
Nice
Hi Bob.
🇭🇺 Hungary sub??? Később megnézem, ha lesz magyar felirat!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! Sorry, I had a lack of time this time😞
does it include state documents?
Dang..... This is so awesome. Please be extra safe so that you don't get caught!
Will be fine! Thanks for checking out!
👏💯😎
My Ad Blockers just intercepted 7 ads in this video. RUclips are taking the p now.
Congrats! 🎉
Dudes where are u guys?? New video pleease 😊
Some sad things happened in my life. Update soon.
I liked the video, it's amazing all that stuff is still there. Makes me wonder why they didn't remove the machinery to melt it down for further use.
But there is something you should keep in mind in old buildings and that is black fungus, get a better mask with filters to keep you safe.
The red star doesn't represent the sovjet republic , it represents communisme and socialisme.
You're in China , so to find a sovjet star there on Chinese buildings and signs is out of the question. The sovjet symbol is the red star combined with hammer and sickle.
👍
Thanks again Gordon!
21:14 bro just put your hand through and unlock it
I did bro! (I kept this out of the video) And I said there are nails in the door.😌 Thanks for watching😎
I bet the newer building wont be in that good of shape in 70-100 yrs.
And a lot more boring too🤣
Plenty of old factories around that no one wants to use because they are not suited to modern manufacturing , there is no,point building to last 100 years anymore.
You look so much like Tintin
Sign says "go to work, happily".Isn`t that some motivation.Textile work is mostly dull , mind numbingly repetitive.
When the title said comunist i thought Australian government.
These people take great personal risk to go into these places to document human history. They should be respected. I did this back before RUclips existed. Had I not lost my computer hard drives in a virus attack I would have gladly loaded many of these videos for you guys. I also took great personal risk to document the history of factories and railroad facilities in my area
Too bad Karl :(
I still have footage from the early 2000s, but the consumer cameras I had were pretty bad, making it impossible to film interiors for me. They had a lot of noise.
What I don’t understand is why don’t they either turn it into a museum update the theatre or turn it into a shopping centre lol or start production up again 🤣🤣but hey this is China lol 🤣🤣
I appreciate how everything is still there and in good condition. I still don't understand why Western societys feel the need to destroy and tag everything.
Next episode another factory, a lot bigger than this one🥰😎
Привет
No lions left in china. They ate them all.
😔😔😔😔
6:07 (On the wall) 伟大领袖毛主席教导我们:“让哲学从哲学家的课堂上和书本里解放出来,变为群众手里的尖锐武器。”
(A quote from Chairman Mao: "Bring philosophy out from classrooms and books of philosophers, turn it into the sharp weapons of the people. ")
Thanks for the translation Peter!
Abandoned is what you see 😉
Chinese is an amazing economic project, lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty. They were comparable with India at that time, and look which country has advanced the most.
Murdering starving and imprisoning 40 million makes things easier.
The pay still the lively hood and all its so wierd ud think russia would want to be the number 1 and china also but what happened ya know we think there upper government put a hold on there lively hoods to hold them back every year and more....look how the stories are coming from north korea no its so sad how there treated
