Yep, back in the days when they built machines to last. Might need some updated electrical work for safety, but mechanically, I bet they're sound. Heh, good luck moving them lol.

This was called "Factory 701", near Napiao. I went through here when it was still operating in January 2007, with the two through track tunnels and side tunnels connecting them. Presumably that is JS 8162 still in there, it was in steam when we visited, and several big QJs were about outside. This is where the three QJs were overhauled before being shipped to the USA (for RJ Corman and Iowa Interstate). Amazing to see how it looks today.

Machine at 21:11 is a metal Shaper (one shown a little earlier also). Uses a tool very similar to a lathe but rather than the work piece turning like on a lathe, the work is held in a vise or clamped to the table of the machine. The head of the machine pushes across the work piece and planes off material on each. Kind of like a milling machine but no rotating cutting tool. Just a tool that pushes across the work piece to remove metal by force. There were also some milling machines in that machine shop. Looked like they could have been tape read type (kind of early cnc machines). Edit: better example at 21:47 of a shaper. The piece with lamp ontop of it would be the moving part that rams forward to take each cut. Can also see the vise that held work piece here. Machine at 24:00 is a vertical turning center, basically a lathe but standing straight up in the air. Modern machine shops still employ all of this equipment aside from shapers. Modern milling machines have replaced pretty much all need for shapers.
i love milling machines and machines similar to them,im currently being teached how to them. We have some of these machines from USSR in our school still working smoothly
Watching this gives me a very sad feeling. Even though I grew up in China, I was from coastal area where railroads had been electrified when I was born, and therefore I had never seen an operating steam locomotive running. My grandfather was also an engineer working on railroads. Also it is good to mention that residents of Northeastern area of China, also known as Manchuria, have a very different perspective of China's rapid economic growth since the 1980s. Before the 1980s, the state had heavily invested in the heavy industries in that area, but afterwards, as China moved toward market economy, the Northeastern part suffered declined and many factories were out of business and many skillful workers were unemployed.

You would have thought they could have used a lot of the machines somewhere else or at least scrap them. Lots of value there, entertaining video!
This was really cool. So interesting. Thank you for sharing❤❤
Gracias por compartir muy interesante tu video saludos
Amazing love trains!!
The steam locomotive was the highlight of the video pretty cool
Yes amazing! Although I liked the corridors stacked with machines a lot too!😍🥰
Thanks for taking time and showing the immensity of the mechanicals...too many channels skim over equipment WAY TOO quickly to allow us viewers enough time to appreciate and take in the view...you go slowly enough that we can appreciate things - THANKS !!
That was absolutely incredible, thank you.
Отличное видео.👍👍👍👍👍👍
Жаль столько станков пропадает, в основном ещё в рабочем состоянии.
Wow so cool 😎 ❤
Gracias por este gran paseo en video

@12:23 Interesting to see video of the locomotive outside in operation, and then to see you found it deep into the tunnel, noted that it is now behind the brick wall. Quite a contrast.... the two views of the same locomotive.
Tolles Video 👍
This is a dream place for all machinists !
Bonjour un gaspillage de métal hallucinant dommage que cela soit à l abandon très intéressant cette visite cordialement
That was a very cool video!!!!
Those guys are smart not letting all that go to waste! You probably scared the crap out of them!!!
sooooo much good material left behinddddd....i gotta visit there someday
What a great find❤
Wow increíble, las partes dónde se queda en silencio es tremendo, es como mas se aprecia el lugar abandonado y tenebroso, gracias por compartir!
I wish I had even one of those lathes for my self. I need one!
You do find some amazing places. Looking at the place and thinking of the phenomenal waste of material and manpower.
Absolutely amazing fine. Can you imagine the noise, fumes. Working down there must have been awful. Nevermind that there's no escape routes in case or fire.
Some of those machines are just incredible.
So sad that steam train hasn't been preserved. It should be on display somewhere
