Are you saying that with this method there is no need to put the park brake system in maintenance mode? Thank you for taking the time to try and help us all out!
@@GarageMahalLife just completed putting the new pads in. Took only 40 minutes , both sides. It did trip a parking brake fault. I pressed okay, and it went away. Test drove it and is working fine. I did buy the tool to push and turn the piston back in at Harbor Freight, made it super easy. They have them on a Black Friday sale now for $29.95,well worth it! My pads were about 1/2 worn. I am sure I could of gotten another 25,000 miles or more on them. But I wanted to change pads to see if I could get rid of the "moan" when backing up.
do your rear brakes howl when backing up on cold or damp mornings? I know there are TSBs for this , and none have really fixed the issue for us. Just put on some ceramic pads to see if they help
Since every vehicle model and year is a bit different, easiest way is to give your local Ford dealer your vin and ask specific torque spec... they are happy to help 😀
@Brian Niskala I have a 2015 chevy impala need to install/change my exhaust camshaft solenoid but don't know exactly where it is where and how do I do it
I usually Google year make and model and typically someone will have a pic of the manufacture page of the manual on the locations of sensors. But it will be on the side of the timing belt, lower on the engine block
Rears needed to be replaced before the fronts! So not yet... and yes completely backwards, 1st vehicle I've had were the rear pads went before the fronts.
i’m planning to do the brakes on my escape, 2020. I still don’t understand this electronic parking brake thing. If the motor is going to try to push the caliper back in, couldn’t I just disconnect the battery? mad confusing.
Do you have the torque specs for the front and rear caliper bracket mounting bolts? Please? I can't locate the numbers anywhere online. I have '21 Bronco Sport (Big Bend). Please let me know!
So these are my univeraal...for the front brackets, I usually go around 70 to 80lbs, slide bolts, 44 and the rear slide bolts 23lbs... basic guide and are not the official oem specs, which have not been publicly listed yet, but be safe and if you need precise, Ford does offer shop manuals via PDF.
Ford hasn't retained the feature where you put the epb in service mode from the interior using the actual parking brake button while holding the brake pedal and gas i think
I get that you are pulling the EPB motor off so that when you depress the piston, it is not fighting the motor. But wouldn't the motor just turn with the piston splines since it is unplugged?
No, there is a lot of resistance that way, almost seems that something will break that way. Most people would be scared off by that resistance, so... easier friendlier way... 😀
@@GarageMahalLife I've never worked on a car with e-brakes before. So you need to rotate the caliper piston because of the e-brake? I noticed the lower caliper mounting bolt seems to line up with the shock absorber, so your method avoids that issue.
@@GarageMahalLife I went to auto zone and they told me they couldn't get them it's only a dealer part. Napa went out of business in my town and I wasn't going to the dealership. This was a week ago so I'm guessing they are still hard to find.
Im looking to do exactly the same with our 2020 Escape (same platform as the Sport) at 40,000 mi. and may go this route, since after reading some interweb stories Im concerned that I may not be able to get it out of service mode I want to do the recommended brake fluid flush at the same time. Have you done this or know if it can be done old school? Or if a scan tool is needed? Thanks in advance and for the video!
2021 bronco sport Outter Banks. New tires at 36k. Water pump. Replaced at 46k. Just got oil change at 48k and was told I will need brakes and rotors front and back by next oil change. Quote from dealer over 700
Wow I'm currently experiencing the exact thing with my bonco. Needed new tires around 35k. Went in for a oil change. Water pump is leaking coolant. Covered under warranty. Rear drive unit failed. When turning it was binding up. Covered. Brakes needed next oil change or 2
Very good instructional video. My 21 Bronco Sport will need brakes very soon 37k miles. Thank you!
Thank you for Watching and Commenting, glad it helps!
It’s exactly like newer gen Honda brakes!! Holy crap thanks!!
Thank you for watching

Yes doing it this way, make sure you then extend and retract the emergency brake so it "self calibrates" after. Quick and easy.
Excellent, thanks! The wife's BS will be up for all 4 corners in a few thousand and this has helped a bunch!
I am doing mine tomorrow,50k on original pads. Got ceramic pads from Rock Auto. Thanks for the tip to deal with the e brake .
Thank you for commenting and watching , good mileage on the 1st set
@@GarageMahalLife yep, and at least 1/2 those miles were towing my small travel trailer!

All the time, lol. Crazy
You are amaizin instructor thanks for all. Puerto Rico recognaize your aportation
Thank you for watching and commenting 😀
Do you have to place it in maintenance mode to do it manually
You do not have to. Just make sure to engage and dis engage the eBrake at least twice to make sure it self calibrates.
What if I don’t have the piston tool you used?
Need to get one
do you have the ebrake engaged or disengaged during this procedure?
Disengaged
You said on the video at 12:49 to torque it to spec? I cannot find anywhere what that spec is?? Any help is appreciated!

@Brian Niskala one last question about the EPB IF I use the scanner will I still have to push in the piston on either or does the tool do it
Obd2 scanner with epb will retract and extend automatically
What are the torque specs on all the bolts there. I’m about to do all four with the powerstop extreme kit.
Each model year is a bit different, I usually Google the year, make model, torque spec for ......

any videos on front pad replacement since they generally wear out first or are they similar to the rear?

Where can we find the tool you used to compress the cylinder? Thanks.

You need to disconnect or power them back with a computer. Annoying, sure, but beats tackling a E brake cable any day :)
Are they ceramic brake pads?
Not currently, I'm sure they will have after markets soon...

That is not a feature and probably won't be as they frown upon tinkering outside their dealerships.
What size are the bolts that hold the caliper bracket on?
14mm I believe
Thanks. Tackling the front and back tomorrow. Appreciate your work - thank you!

You can do the flush as normal, but you have to have the brake off/disconnected

Thank you for the quick reply! You mean flush with the EPB motor off, correct?
