  • Is the Goechala trek open in December, January and February? Is it a good idea to do it in winter?
This is something many trekkers have been asking us of late.
We would not recommend doing the Goechala trek in December, January and February for multiple reasons.
    The reasons are
    1. The extreme weather and temperatures of winter at Goechala (goechala weather can drop to -15 to -20 degrees in winter at night)
    2. Increased possibilities of AMS
    3. Lack of evacuation possibilities in case of emergencies
    4. Presence of high snow on the trails in winter
These are just a few of the reasons we would not recommend the Goechala trek in December, January and February.
There are additional practical issues such as lack of water sources, because water sources freeze, and lack of pack animals in winter.
We would recommend the Goechala trek in December, January and February ONLY if you are a very seasoned trekker, with technical expertise and many high altitude treks under your belt. If you have done only one or two Himalayan treks before, we would not recommend it.

Avoid crowd batch date like end of December and don't go with local and unprofessional company.
