“Twilight’s” Alice Cullen, born Mary Alice Brandon, has one of the most interesting backstories of any of the Cullen family. The movies highlight the importance of Alice’s visions-- especially with the battle scene in “Breaking Dawn Part 2”-- but there’s still so much left unsaid about the psychic vampire’s human beginnings. For one, she had a terrible father who had her thrown in an asylum, where she lost her memories before finally meeting Jasper Hale. She was also able to adopt that “vegetarian” vamp lifestyle on her own, because she knew the Cullens were in her future. Someone this impressive should definitely have her own movie-- and not just “The Mary Alice Brandon File” short-film, even though it’s pretty incredible.
Why Alice’s story never made it into the movies is mostly to do with time constraints and hiring all those extra actors, but there’s also a reason that makes sense to the story-- Alice can’t really remember her life as a human, so how would she be able to tell everyone about her deep, dark past? Still, a flashback of Alice's strange beginnings would have highlighted her incredible strength, and also her bond with Edward. Thankfully, Stephenie Meyer’s “Midnight Sun” gives us a deeper look at this bond and how much Edward Cullen really knew about Bella Swan and their future thanks to Alice. Let’s explore Alice’s tragic history and discuss how we might’ve known her better if her backstory had been a bigger part of the hit movie franchise.

Honestly I never found Edward, Jacob, or Bella interesting. I was most interested in the cullens, I kind of wish they made a prequel about the cullens like their backstories, how they moved from place to place, and how they made a treaty with the wolves. (I know it explains the Wolf story but I want more detail, it couldn’t have been that simple to get along.)

Thing is most of them do, Carlisle’s back story and journey in the books is one of the most interesting parts of the twilight saga. The films just cut most of the in-depth details out or just ignore them all together

What's amazing is that Stephanie Meyer wrote these amazing characters with interesting backstories... but made Bella the focus of the story.
A tually there was quite a lot of focus on the Cullens stories but they simply reduced it all to the lovestory for the movies and that's why it received so much hate

Yes Bella was the focus, it was from her point of view😂 but I get your point. So many characters that don’t get enough depth
she did that so that every teen girl could insert themselves into the story and feel desirable. If bella was fleshed out it wouldn't have worked. She needed to be an empty vessel.
I really wish they’d gone more into everyone’s backstory. It’s why the second half of breaking dawn is my favorite. So many interesting characters from different experiences. Heck, give me a spin off of the Egyptians or the Irish, maybe even the Denali coven. More about the tension between the Romanians and the Volturi.
one thing that the books can still get praise for was covering such interesting backstories. however, i really thought midnight sun would cover the cullens lives and backstory further but i was quite disappointed.

Breaking Dawn and Eclipse are my favorites for that reason. We learn about so many backstories from so many of the characters
I believe (because I am from Romania) that The problem between The Romanian vampires and The Volturi was because The history says that vampires are originally from Transilvania (România) you know... Vlad Țepes... Dracula... And I think there were some fights for power between them... Just my opinion.

Alice’s backstory would have improved the movies immensely. The franchise needed more layers to it, and her story would have created depth.

afaik, the story from the book and movie is base from bella’s perspective so in order for the backstories to visualize it has to be mention to bella narratively. I would consider Alice as top 1, and only Bella top 2. Alice is the most intriguing vampire without the backstory.

Once I finished reading the books, I ended up reading further into the cullens and the wolves. Took me a week to read the first book, five days for New Moon, three for Eclipse, and I spent all day reading Breaking Dawn.
Twilight is actually one of my favorite movie series.

I always thought Ashley Green was/is an unappreciated actress. I found this fictitious information about Alice’s past very interesting. I was a diehard Twilight fan and I’d love to see her past get its cinematic due in a well-publicized movie, for TV or the big screen.

The depth of these characters lives would be incredible for twilight fans. I would love to see a series of films, that focused solely on the vampire lives. They could call it “THE CULLEN CHRONICLES”, and give insight to the characters and how they all came together as a sort of unique family. I think viewers and fans would absolutely love this and would reprise their enthusiasm of the genre. Please consider this and give the twilight fans another dose of our beloved characters!

Actually the reason Alice’s backstory wasn’t in the films is that the backstory was in the Twilight Official Guide that came out after the films had wrapped.
But they completely kicked everything about her past. From the fact that James knew her in her human life to her discovering this. They give some sort of recognition to almost everyone but her. Rose got a flashback, as did Edward and Jasper. Emmett, Esme and Carlisle all got some mention or nod to their history. She got nothing. A simple flashback of James attempting to kill her, the old vampire getting her first, and him killing the old vamp would have done fine... or even a mention like in the first book.

The books explained that she can't remember, because she spent nearly her entire life in the dark, because of the way insane asylums were back then. Also, she'd have a southern drawl, if she were from Biloxi. So, while entertaining... That bit of fan fiction completely missed the mark.

I read the books and i LOVED alice because of how sad her backstory was and how alone she was, and how her and Edwards basically could see the visions together was a really nice touch that i wish they showed more often in the movies.
Any of the other Cullens would have made for a more interesting story than Edward's. Emmett didn't even have much of a backstory, but he at least has a personality

The Twilight movies were so popular and loved that more films could have been made and somehow added into the movie series all of the Cullen’s backstory’s.

They do talk in the books about how Edward and Alice have this special bond and work together all the time. They’re best friends. Then when Bella comes along Alice works to include Bella in their duet to make it a trio. She also displays disappointments in some of Edwards “stupid” choices. Like the choice to leave Bella in the second book when Alice knows that it will not turn out well for either of them or their mental health. The books do touch on Alice’s family having her institutionalized. But the back story of how she’s turned and by whom, I think would have been a good thing to include. In my opinion Rosalie’s story is far more disturbing than Alice’s. Even with the possibility that Alice’s dad had her mom killed so that he could be with his new lover (whom he married six months later. ) I think they could have cut her back story down to a couple of minutes and still included it in one of the movies. If they’d included it in the fourth movie when Bella is pregnant, then it would have made a lot more sense to the plot overall, and why she chooses to leave the Cullen family for a little while in the last movie.
They definitely need to do a spin off for each vampire about their backstories

Didn't read the books but I did a deep deep dive into the lives of both the vampires and wolves. I was shocked to find out Leah and Emily were not only cousins but besties prior to Sam imprinting. & she would manipulate the pack bond so they could hear her pain. How Jacob had a whole ass sister that Paul imprinted on, and that Billy Black was a tad jealous he never became a wolf. Also Quil becoming a wolf either meant Billy or Harry Clearwater had an affair with his mom. I thought it was really interesting that Marcus basically had no choice to be apart of the Volturi, and that Aro killed his mate. They made Marcus look so old, but he was in his 20s when he was turned. So much stuff that wasn't covered, they could've easily expanded the franchise.
I wish they went more into the fact the wolves were shifters not werewolves, and that werewolves were real, and a single one could decimate a coven.

I know that Rosalie's backstory is already discussed in the books and in the movies (briefly) but I'd want a movie of her that's focused on dealing with the trauma she went through. So no happy-go-lucky movie but a one that takes her history and what happened seriously. A Survivor's Story.

They're supposed to be twins, but they are not real twins
They're not siblings. Possible relatives because they got the same last name. Jasper is the second oldest vampire in Cullen house
They aren't siblings. Their last names are faked so the people in forks don't question too much. And since they are both blonde it is easier to explain that they were adopted together. So they play the part or "siblings" none of them are related to each other.
Rosalie didn't want to change her surname "Hale", so Carlisle suggested Jasper faked being her brother so they both could be "Hale" because they looked alike.

The story totally successfully demonstrates Alice"s importance, both with Edward and in the authentic bond that she and Bella share both individually and within the Cullen family.

@@erk44 Bella really wasn’t very interesting in the book. Just a plain girl with a very boring lifestyle. The only thing that made her interesting was her ties to the supernatural world. I loved the books in high school but when I reread them I couldn’t understand what I loved about them. But I would say they’re still worth a read.
i don’t agree with this. cause i think people enjoy stories where they can relate with and twilight had that because of the main character. kristen stewart is a great actor and she portrayed bella just as she should’ve in my opinion

@@janelleg597 I think a lot of the acting in twilight is over the top n doesn’t really give the characters depth, edward was funny sometimes in the books and playful at times from what I can remmeber but was mostly just mysterious and romantic in the movies, same with Bella while I don’t think Kristen Stewart did a bad job I think she didn’t seem like the book Bella who also was just very quiet and insecure but not bland and monotone
I'm just started reading midnight sun. I love it! I wish it would have translated better into the movie side too. I would have loved to know all of their pasts, not just Jasper and Carlisle.
If they are doing a Twilight series, they can include all the backstories. This one will be really good.
I understood that there was a competition for writers/directors to create 7 short stories based on Stephanie Meyer's characters. This was after the movies and books were made. That is why none of it is in the movies. The short film is an extension of them. I'm not sure if Stephanie Meyer was there with Kailey and Samantha Spear while writing, I thought she was credited for the use of her characters.
When I saw Carlisle's head get ripped off in the movies I was PISSED! I immediately stopped the movie and did not return for an entire year. Only to find out that when I did prepare emotionally for his death it was a big syke out.
This could have given the movie so much more edge!
Alice definitely deserves her own movie; but Ashley Green might be too old to play as her now.

I think since Callens family was able to survive, they do deserve a movie about their back stories and how did they meet. It would be amazing to see and learn, how in a world of vampires, they manage to stay attached to their humanity. Maybe, it would be a good example-reminder also to us. How to stay humans above all.
