Please watch the original, it's a real classic of comedy.
And as Kermode so rightly said, the remake isn't subtle in any way.

The original Ladykillers is my all time favourite comedy although I might be saying this as someone who thinks remaking anything starring Alec Guinness is like remaking Casablanca. But I think it was a great idea to remake the Ladykillers for an American audience. Although in order for it work it would have to be extremely irreverent and out of place.
Set in the Deep South in replace of London with a smart elderly lady instead of an elderly gullible one ✔
A foul mouthed script with the highly respectable Colnol having a sexaulised character arc ✔
A stereotypical Chinese takeaway owner in replace an Eastern European gangster ✔
The five men load their money on and off a garbage ship ✔
Tom Hanks playing the lead role as professor Marcus ❌
Considering how inappropriate and weird much of the remake is. It's insane that either Coens or casting directors could choose such a safe well suited and appropriate actor to fill Guinnesses shoes. If Ben Stiller had played Professor Marcus then it couldve not only worked but eventually become a cult classic thats 100% unfaithful to the original but works beautifully considering a remake of such a landmark piece should never have been made in the first place. Bit like the play that went wrong. But then again on that front I suppose the Coens or casting director weren't brave enough to do that and instead decided to chicken out instead of going the full way and making the perfect wrong com. Next time they remake an Alec Guinness comedy Ben Stiller should be the first person on their list.

A fantastic comedy! And of course, not forgetting the best Tom Hanks role of all time. The cast, completely, is superb; just like the whole fucking movie. Shiny!

Look, I can hypothesise that the goings on in the pub in Eastenders is an analogy of Socratic debate in ancient Greece, and that would make it really hilarious and fun. But I know it's not, and therefore a piece of shit.
Film is open to interpretation, but I Tom Paulin's got ahead of himself here, I think.

Tom Pauline... Where is he getting this crap from? The only thing I agree with is the Bob Jones University joke. The Coen Brothers are extraordinary filmmakers but this was a HUGE misfire. They missed every joke that made the original so funny. Always rely on Mark Kermode.

Exactly. You can't claim to like a film simply because of a running joke about Bob Jones University

The film’s well casted, well acted & well characterised, however the film’s unfocused, not funny, lifeless & dull. (50%) (2.5/5 stars) (mixed)

    2 things:
    1. The southern woman is NOTHING like the thieves in the remake. Perhaps the critic's views on people of color are in association with a criminal image. Her analysis sounds prejudice.
    2. It's stuffy to pretend like flatulence can't be funny. It certainly can, and usually is; especially when used at the most awkward and arbitrary times.

I think the critics here (in what you call 'another country') are a bit miffed that a remake was made of a classic British comedy at all. It's like sacrilege.
Mind you, a lot of of them probably haven't seen either one of them. I have seen both, the original many times. As a remake the Hanks film is appalling, but on its own it's quite good. You might want to watch the original but I suspect you would not understand its subtle humour. People from another country generally don't. Oh!
