    Hi Michael and thanks for the great in-depth explanation. I am considering buying Dell U2723QE as I would like a quality 4K monitor for the long run. As I am 10h+ by the PC, office work+multimedia the only thing I kind of missed on the U2723QE was a higher refresh rate. I am currently using some old Dell P series 24' and I am sure the switch to a new 4k would be great and probably resting for my eyes (although it's 60hz) but I wanted your opinion if possible regarding how much the difference is between this 120hz and the U2723QE 60hz and should I maybe wait for Dell's 4k 120hz versions if the eye-strain affection is quite noticeable with a higher refresh rate. Thanks.

    Hi Mike, thanks for the in-depth review! Looks like a great monitor, but why no HDR? 😢
    I do have an older Dell monitor that has HDR - the Dell U2520D UltraSharp, mainly for home office, and occasional casual gaming.
    1) Does this mean the U2520D has better color display than the U2724DE?
    2) Could I daisychain the 2520D to the 2724DE?

    Thanks for video! I initially thought the $160 price increase for the DE over the D was a bit steep, but then I realized an external Thunderbolt Hub is gonna set you back just as much and more(!) while clutter up your desk and needing an extra power outlet/brick, so it's actually a pretty good deal.

    Tks Help me a lot! This is a best review!!! I was in doubt between U2724D and Sansung UR550 4K. For coding and eye confort I liked more Dell U2724D, I'm switching from my old LG 23MP55HQ monitor (1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz) and I'm very excited to buy this monitor. When it arrives I will comment on my experience after a few days of use.

    Huge thanks for your fantastic review, I'm totally sold and planning to grab either the D or DE, but there are few things holding me back .
    For DE Version:
    1. Can you turn off charging over the Thunderbolt cable, or is it always on?
    2. My laptop's a Lenovo P15 with a 150W charger. Will it charge slower through the monitor's 90W Thunderbolt, or just not at all?
    Now, for the D version:
    If I use HDMI or DP for video, can I connect a mouse, keyboard, and headphones to the monitor's USB ports, then use one USB cable to connect them all to my laptop? (Asking because my current monitor has this cool setup).
    For context, my current ThinkVision has 4 USB ports and an audio jack. I've got keyboard, mouse, speakers, and phone charging/data plugged in, with one HDMI and one USB cable going to my laptop. When my wife uses it, she just swaps in her DP cable and uses the same USB cable.
    Really appreciate your time and help! Your answers will make all the difference in my decision.

    Could I have a question, please? One laptop I have is a Lenovo Ideapad 5. When connecting it through Thunderbolt to the monitor, sometimes it works, yet sometimes the monitor can't detect any signal. Is there a setting I can tweak for the monitor to always work with a device like this? Many thanks for your kind attention.

    • @MichaelOHanian
      @MichaelOHanian  4 месяца назад

      Q = 4K D = QHD E = Hub display. The U2724DE came out after the U2723QE, so U2723QE does not have Thunderbolt, does not have 120Hz refresh rate (it has 60Hz) and does not have Ambient Light sensor. U2723QE is still a great display. I used it for over a month and loved it (I switch displays every month to better understand what it is like to work with them).

The Asus model imho has similar specs as this Dell model but additionally HDR, 144 Hz and a higher brightness of 400cd. On the downside, its hub capabilities are not as good, it doesn't habe ambient light sensor and also no ComfortView plus. I'm pretty sure that many potential customers are considering the Asus as an alternative to the Dell.

    Excited for these new monitors, as well as your U3425WE .
    Any chance you guys are working on a something like your U3821DW ? Which is a 24:10 ultrawide. love the added vertical space. looking for that 120Hz and ips black though.
    Also kinda expensive for commercial use, they are competing with OLEDs in price. but the OLED beats it in color accuracy, black levels, blooming, viewing angles

    • @MichaelOHanian
      @MichaelOHanian  4 месяца назад

      @DDHDTV Right now we have 32:9 21:9, 16:9 and 16:10 in the commercial monitors. As far as the OLED, you are not likely to see OLED's in commercial monitors because of temporal luminance stability. Commercial monitors are designed for being on longer and lasting longer than consumer displays. That may change over the next few years. QD (Quantum Dot)-OLED is showing some encouraging stability and color improvements. We will see.

    Why have Dell chosen to have the monitor controls behind the screen and not below?
    I find it very annoying that i should grab behind the screen to turn it on as i need to reach further and then locate the button.
    My screen is longer than a arm reach away from my eyes, which makes this process even worse.
    Other than that, this monitor could potentially be my next upgrade.

For example, my 27GN750 claims 1 ms, but that is on Fastest mode, that is unusable because adds a lot of invert ghosting, this mode is there just so they can market 1ms, the Fast mode accordantly with RTINGS is about 5 ms. So if this information is true, it would be on par with the fast IPS standard. You need to find out if this fast mode is usable, or it's just there for marketing.

      For most recreational gamer's a 120Hz is good. There is usually a tradeoff between resolution/color and refresh rate. In my opinion refresh rate is more important than the response rate. Think of response rate as each pixel being a soldier and the refresh rate being the Drill Sergeant. The Drill Sergeant gives out a command to the soldiers to do a pushup. Refresh rate is how many commands a Sergeant can give in a second. The Response rate is how fast the soldiers can do the pushup. There is little use in having a fast response rate if the refresh rate is slow. Hope that makes sense.

      @@MichaelOHanian I have the opposite opinion, fast response time gives you de illusion of high refresh rate. My 60 hz oled looks as smooth as 120hz IPS if the fast movement is not huge. And my VA 144hz still looks like crap, so I rather play on 60 hz Fast IPS than this.

    I want to buy the Dell U2724D 27 (With no Thunderbolt) to use with my macbook pro 2018. Will I get 120Hz refresh rate with the macbook pro (2018) via USBC to Display port?
    Thanks in advance

      @will_day I am not a MacBook user but this is what I found on an Apple blog. The 2018 MacBook Pro only supports a 60 Hz refresh rate with external displays. However, the MacBook Pro can be adjusted to 120 Hz for smoother video playback and improved video editing. support.apple.com/en-euro/102297#:~:text=On%2014%2Dinch%20and%2016,refresh%20rate%20up%20to%20120Hz.

    • @MichaelOHanian
      @MichaelOHanian  4 месяца назад

      @millenasateles6021 From a color prospective it is. However photographers tend to look at pixel density. A pixel density between 110-140 is usually recommended. The U2723DE comes in at 108.97PPI. So, really close and for the price it is a good deal. Here are some other Dell Displays that photographers like:
      U2724DE = 108.97PPI QHD 27" IPS Black
      U2723QE =163.18PPI 4K 27" IPS Black
      U3223QE = 137.68PPI 4K 32" IPS Black
      U3224KB = 223PPI 6K 32" IPS Black.

    What's the difference between the D and DE model?

    • @pauker2017
      @pauker2017 4 месяца назад

      The DE has an build in Thunderbolt 4 Hub

    • @MichaelOHanian
      @MichaelOHanian  4 месяца назад +2

      @benseyesvisuals the D is lacking the hub (docking) and the Thunderbolt. The U2724DE is good to pair with the U2724D because they look identical and by not having Thunderbolt and hub you can save a little money. If you are a MacBook user you have to get both DE versions to get dual display.

    • @cn8112

      @@DavideMaiolo Quick answer is that macOS does not support Multi-Stream Transport (MST). However, some Mac users on Reddit are claiming they are able to daisy chain by using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to the second display...so I'm not entirely sure if Michael is correct saying that both need to be the DE model.

      @ozkandursun4599 It has the TUV flicker free label. It has achieved a 5-Star-certified monitor will have a high refresh rate (≥ 120 Hz) and high color accuracy and feature hardware to reduce blue light and flicker, as well as brightness and color temperature control for ambient lighting. Hope this helps.
