I love the idea of a travel kitchen. Very recently, I've started traveling with a variety of seasonings and spices since most airbnb's don't have any, and it's motivated to me to cook more where ever I'm staying.
The trick is to buy the battery version of the Phillips toothbrush, and buy a rechargeable battery. There are rechargeable AAA batteries now where you can plug a usb-c cable directly into the battery, no extra charging device
I agree with you. The battery version is best. My main toothbrush is the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean which goes into a lovely "travel" case to recharge -- lovely but huge. Now that I have the slim little battery-operated Sonicare, I can easily carry it anywhere and the battery lasts for many months. Between the two versions, I hardly notice a difference in power.
@@bex-fl-1 It’s interesting that there is not too much power difference between the two. 👍 My Sonicare is very big, it’s already 10 years old, but still going strong. I have been eyeing with the Prestige model because it seems to have the smallest charging case, but I am refusing to pay that much money for a toothbrush, especially since mine is still working. 😅 And I have the (slim) hope that until mine breaks, maybe they release a new model… 😂
@@MaggiFuchs I've heard others say that their mouth feels noticeably cleaner with the diamond care model. I find the difference almost imperceptible, but I must admit, the diamond care does vibrate faster. I like having both, but could happily make do with the Philips One, especially since the difference in cost is huge.
I watch many You tube videos regarding travel packing and yet you always come up with innovative ideas that I haven't heard before . Would love to hear more about the kitchen bag - great idea. Many thanks.
I have the immersion heaters in US, UK, And EU plugs . It’s essential I make coffee, tea, boil water for dry oatmeal , and soup. You are right saves money on those expensive coffee runs. I travel with loose tea, coffee sticks and I’ve never had a problem with TSA. Always remember to have it in a cup with water before you plug it in otherwise you can short circuit it and unplug it before you remove it from boiled water.
Wow, you got a whole collection of water cooker sticks. But I totally understand why. 😅 And thanks for the reminder of how to use it. My manual said the same, otherwise the fuse would fry - so I follow that rule religiously. And regarding the loose tea incident… It was a short trip, so I packed a small amount of loose tea in one of those tiny clear bags. I think it was a rolled one, a Milky Oolong or Dragon Pearls or something. And then my bag got searched and she pulled out this tiny clear bag with something green inside. 😂 The situation got resolved quickly and we all had a good laugh…
I love the Matador refillable toothpaste tubes. Give them as gifts for travel friends and I like to use toothpaste you can’t find in travel size. Never leaked and using now for 2 years.
I bought the Osprey Packable Backpack last year as a Day Pack and used it on four trips now. I like that it's very light weight and compact to transport. Since it's flexible it fits comfortably everywhere you need it to like as a personal item under a plane seat for example. Because of the light support though, you quickly feel it on your shoulders if you load it up too heavy and in hot weather you'll get a sweaty back pretty fast from the material. Still, I like the Backpack a lot and would recommend it. I'm looking forward to your review of the new gear. Happy travels you two.
Re toothbrush: some power banks have an option to force trickle-charge for devices with low power draw; perhaps that is what’s needed? It’s usually a long-press of a button. YMMV
I've gone through a few toiletry bags over the years. Nowadays I'm loving my one from Bellroy. But it wouldn't be enough to live out of. I got a water immersion rod over 10 years ago when I went on a trip to Germany. I think I just got rid of it when decluttering and downsizing as I pretty much always have access to a kettle these days as we mostly stay at places with a kitchen. We've done car travel with a kitchen TUB but I love the idea of your little kitchen bag.
I have had one for 30 years - it goes with me on my business trips - I will drink tea at night & I now use the coffee sachets for a cappuccino - looking for extra sugars in cafes when I am eating out. I scored a few of similar pocket backpacks at a trade show & 1 always lives in my brief case as I attend conferences with stacks of papers to collect from stall holders.
I prefer the Hytric portable electric kettle. It adds a little weight, but soooo worth it for me. It has a timer. I can boil water, boil egg, make soups, pasta, instant MRE, or hot water for teas or Waka coffee. With specialty food needs, this is a lifesaver. 🫡

Thank you! 🤗 Unfortunately that “borrowing” goes in both directions… He already borrowed my old toiletry bag and already announced that I will never get it back. 😂
Thanks Maggi for the great video 🤗 I have added the camping equipment bag; mirror; toothpaste tube; Anker power bank, and toiletry bag to my wish list. A stinger! I love my immersion heater. I used t to carry a tiny alcohol burner for my coffee since I do not at all trust hotel coffee makers but the stinger is so much more efficient. Glad you like it!
yeah alcohol burner. good way to accidentally burn down the hotel too... They have safety measures in most hotels and I guess you just simply overlooked those rules. Please don't use candles and burners in hotels!
@@Xia-hu you are assuming I am capable of doing that and not going out to my vehicle to make coffee. I realize that is possible but that is an incorrect assumption for you to make. Respectfully…

Matador tubes are amazing, let me go on a small review. I bought them for travel, but when I returned home, I needed to finish up what was in there... and somehow I ended up using it permanently, refilling over and over again. Large toothpaste takes up so much space on my small sink, while Matador tube is tiny. Now, why this tube is great. Most people use too much toothpaste, like 5-6x times too much, covering the whole length of a brush with a fat worm of toothpaste. In reality, you need pea sized amount of toothpaste and using more does not give you any benefits. If I have a very minty toothpaste, I stick to that amount... Though I like to use 1.5-2 peas if toothpaste isn't very strong - otherwise I don't feel like I have brushed my teeth. However, the problem is twofold, I don't like my toothbrush touching the tube (seems unhygienic) BUT I need to evenly distribute toothpaste along the toothbrush, otherwise I'll be ramping up the foaming for half of my brushing time. Overbrushing teeth is bad, 2 mins of brushing with the right technique is enough. Matador tube solves all those problems, by dispensing a slimmer worm of toothpaste across the brush. Ofc, toothpaste companies have no business in consumer using less toothpaste so they'd never make the tube hole smaller, literally all of the marketing has fat worm of toothpaste, way too generous lol. Makes me angry as it contributes to the misinformation that you need half a bucket of toothpaste to brush your teeth. I would only improve two things: The cap is small, it'd be nice if it was attached to the tube. But I can see how it's difficult as it'd make it more expensive to produce. I am worried I'm gonna lose it, and I had sinks with large enough gaps to drop the cap into the sink drain. 🙀 The cap tip is narrow, you can make the tube stand but it is wobbly. I'd love if the cap end was a bit wider to support it's weight. I would add a few grams, but it'd be well worth it. I've been extensively using one black tube for a year now, and shows very little wear and tear... I used one white tube for face cream when travelling but I don't use it daily as my face cream comes in a tube already. So I have 3 Matador tubes to spare, I think it will last me well over 10 years to destroy all 4 of them. I am considering buying another 4 just to hoard them in case they stop producing them, but I have resisted this temptation so far. 😹 I really enjoy your videos, thank you.
I loved your review. Thanks for sharing. This was one of the items I was most excited about seeing in Maggi's video. I have no idea why, because I usually put my toothpaste in a half ounce plastic case with snap lid, and always bring popsicle sticks or coffee stirrers to scoop a tiny bit out. That system works fine and takes even less space, but I have such a love of cool travel gear that I'm excited about getting one of these tubes. 😂😂😂 It's the simple things in life, I guess. This might sound crazy, but do you think it would work if I used it for night cream? I have a thick night cream that I love and I'm always wishing it came in a tube instead of it's pretty jar.
@@bex-fl-1 Adding my 2 cents. 🤗 My guess is that it should work. The cream I got from my doctor is a little bit thicker gel-like consistency, and it works very well. I guess it would be hard with very fluid textures that would run out of the larger opening, but I have not tested that yet… 🤔
Hi Maggi 😊✨ Always a pleasure!! I just got home from 9+2 weeks away this summer and as it was to my parents and they are cleaning out their house…. I came home with max checked bags 😳😂 and packing light is my plan for our springtime trip. I left clothes & my smallest suitcase there as I know there will be a few things to bring home. So I am hoping to pack VERY lightly on the way over…. not including the two bags I borrowed that need to go back with me. So hahaha no special extra items for me!! But I enjoy watching yours. I really like the portable kitchen!
I use the Oral B electric AA battery toothbrush. Prefer over rechargeable because I can carry a AA battery if needed. The cost in these toothbrushes is in the replacement heads. You should change every 3 months and if you have had a URI always replace when you’re better. I find replaceable head dups for about 50 cent each that I can remove toss and replace. The cleaning is excellent and with the cost of even disposable toothbrush’s it’s a good investment as long as the heads can be purchased economically and don’t get discontinued. Our entire household uses the same Oral B electric battery operated version.
I also have food intolerances (gluten and dairy) and an auto immune disease (Hashimotos). I have done mostly car trips since my diagnosis. I have those figured out in terms of bringing my own food and snacks. Air travel seems like a very different scenario. I would love to hear how you accommodate your food needs while you travel.
There would be a lot to say about that - maybe I make a video about that at some point. I added it to my list. If there is anything specific I should cover, please let me know. :) I am allergic to celery, have a histamine intolerance and Morbus Basedow (I think in English it’s Graves disease?) - so I know how you feel. 🤗
I cannot give up my Sonicare Maggi. Just returned from Greece and I had a heavy bag. Going to have to cut somewhere else. Wet brush makes a travel size fyi. My packing struggle is always toiletries. I’m higher maintenance than I want to be!
Thanks for the suggestions. And I am glad I am not the only one. They really are quite heavy. But having healthy teeth is worth it imho. Mine is already 10 years old and there are somewhat smaller models available nowadays I think, but it still works, so I see no point in buying a new one. 😅
Thanks for the suggestion. I owned a Rocketbooks a few years ago before I switched to the iPads with the pencil. It did not work that well for me, because I am a leftie with a terrible posture for writing, so I always smeared the ink. 🤷♀️ I gave it to Everson and he loved using it.
Hi Maggie, it’s great to see you again. ❤ I love to see your travel gear finds. I once went on a four day trip and forgot my Apple Watch charger. That may not sound traumatic, but I really wanted to count my steps on that trip. 😂😂😂. I now have three travel Apple Watch chargers and have already added the one you mentioned to my basket, because apparently I’m a little crazy and want to make sure I have my bases covered. 😂
I am also obsessed with my step count on trips. And I also love the little “maps” where I walked when I start an activity. I often take a screenshot and add it to my travel pictures. So to me, forgetting the charger for a four day trip sounds quite traumatic too… 😂
So many of this things look handy, I’ll have to go looking for some of them. I purchased the Phillips One toothbrush and have to say both my husband and myself are disappointed with it. It simply vibrates a bit so I don’t think it works nearly as well as our regular electric toothbrushs. It may be slightly better than a manual brush tho so it depends on what you’re used to. I plan on purchasing electric toothbrushes in Europe while we’re there so we have them for trips and our 2nd home in the Azores. Safe travels!
Regarding the charging cable for the toothbrush: I bought some usb a to usb c adapters for a similar issue. I have some older cables for Micro-USB that only have USB A and I don't want to throw them out. Adapters help. I bought "good ones" from Anker to make sure I don't lose charging speed. But that night not even be an issue with a toothbrush
Did you try charging the toothbrush with a PD (power delivery) charger and cable? I have a camera battery that is particular about that and thought it might be worth trying. Also, another option for a travel notebook might be a Rocketbook. They have a line of paper-like notebooks that you use special pens with that are erasable. And a whole scanning system (using your phone and a QR code) so if it’s a page you want to keep you can scan and it will pdf and email it to you via the app (or various other customizable delivery options). Then wipe the page clean and reuse. I found it handy on my last one bag trip.
Thanks for the suggestions. I actually had a Rocketbook a few years ago until Apple released the Pencil and I switched to the iPads. The rocketbook didn’t work that well for me though, I am a leftie with a terrible hand posture and I always smeared the pages, but my husband loved it. :)
I love the idea of the kitchen bag 😍😍😍 I do not really eat in restaurants so it would be very convenient for me. Do you also take it when you travel by plane?
I don’t think I will travel by plane with this bag - guess they would not be happy with me flying carry-on with my kitchen knives and stuff… 😂 This one will now permanently live in the trunk of my car, but we usually bring a few items from the kitchen bag with us when we fly somewhere, depending on the trip.
Came here to suggest the same thing. An adapter *should* work for charging the toothbrush, or they might need to try a usb-c cable with a power rating that matches the toothbrush’s input rating. I suspect there’s a mismatch somewhere, which is why it won’t charge.
I ❤ your mobile kitchen in a dedicated pack. Great idea! And that new Anker charger is going on my wishlist. I know what you mean about toothbrush power. I love my Braun-Oral-B. I took it on a 3 week trip to Scotland on its original charge. It lasted! But its power was faded by 50% at the end. Even so, it was still way more powerful than the stupid Quip brush I got once. 3 weeks was a good test!
Check out Eunice at Theory of Simple, who has the Mary Poppins kitchen bag and gear. Having Celiac necessitates clean kitchen gear. She has revolutionized my travel kitchen. 🤗
Glad to hear that I am not the only one who carries full-sized electric toothbrushes… 😂 I am impressed that yours lasted three weeks. Mine lasts usually around two weeks - but it is already ten years old, so I have no reason to complain. And it still works, so I won’t change it until it dies on me. 💪
Hi Maggi, I love your videos. Matador tube never heard of it before. I already ordered it. Thank you for helping me spending my hard earned money. Ha, ha
Nice travel gizmo video. I’ve had that small Anker battery bank with folding Lightning connector plug for a while and loved how I could put it in my pocket to recharge my earbuds, iPhoneSE or iPad if need be. My iPhone is getting so the battery no longer holds a charge all day long & the replacement for it isn’t out for 6 months (2025), so was the perfect little backup battery… until it died last week right before a trip I am now on. It will no longer make the connection from batter to device. I suspect the folding tip is the weak point. My replacement is a “Anker Power Bank, 10,000mAh Portable Charger with Built-in USB-C Cable and Lanyard, 22.5W Max Output with 2 USB-C and 1 USB-A Port”. It’s thinner than my other battery banks, the attach lanyard is usb-c to usb-c fast charging cable. I took a short Anker fast charging usb-c to Lightning cable & used the Velcro tie to attach it to the lanyard. So far it is working well. Also, I had gotten this for my transition from Lighting to usb-c as more and more gizmos go to USB-c.
This connector could really be the weak point of the powerbank. 🤔 But glad to hear you found a replacement - love your DIY with the lightning cable. I am also on an old iPhone Mini 12 that needs at least two full charges now to get through the day, so I feel your pain. ;-) It’s the only thing I have left with Lightning - I guess I should slowly consider upgrading it… 😂
@@MaggiFuchs well, I have to keep a short cord of a USB-A to usb-mini to charge my collapsible lantern & a prehistoric kindle. Eventually I’ll be down to just usb-c, but I don’t want to toss things that work. 🙃
@@MaggiFuchs PS: did you make a video about using an Apple Watch ⌚️ in your travels? I don’t typically wear a watch, but figure they will have a sale on older models as there new ones come out.
I agree about not tossing things that work, but I am also waiting for the day when all of my things will be USB-C only… 😅 I never did a video about traveling with the watch… not sure if there is too much to say. 😅 Is there anything specific you would like to know?
@@MaggiFuchs on the Apple Watch, I don’t have one. Haven’t worn a watch in decades. Just trying to sort out if they are worth it. Recently, I was impressed by a friend who wears one , her 11yo daughter wears one because it’s how they communicate since kids can’t have cellphones at school. Most of the time I think kids & cellphones are a bad idea, but I was with my friend when a situation arose where the daughter needed to reach her Mom & used her watch. It made me think they are more useful than I thought… So I wondered if you had any special applications for traveling?
Anker powerbank integrated cable stops working after some time, so I wouldn't rely just on that cable, always have some other that you can insert into the power bank.
Thanks for the tip, it’s definitely great to have a backup. I think I mentioned it in the video that I would also bring a multicable with it (I just didn’t show it in the B-Roll). I hope that the integrated cable will last for a while though. 🤞 Did you have yours breaking on an Anker powerbank? How long did it last?
@@MaggiFuchs I bought one 333 days ago. It's without that apple watch charger, but the one with integrated cable. I think it mentions somewhere that it can hold 10 000 bends or something like that. I contacted their support and I should be getting a free replacement. Because now sometimes it charges, sometimes not, depends on how the cable is bent, if I use external cable, all good.
Ich benutze auch die One von Philips… und auch einen OneBlade…. Das Teil hier ist optimal um sich das Kabel zu sparen 😊 Yinke 5 V Typ-C-Rasierer-Adapter
I use a AA battery powered toothbrush with rechargeable lithium battery's that the USB - c plugs into direct with a built in charging light. You are turning into James Bond, with all of these gadgets 🙂
This is a great idea. In hindsight, this would have probably been the better combination. Or I will turn into Inspector Gadget because I will have to hide it all in my coat when I fly the next time… 😂
😂😂😂 I love your sisters idea! But then maybe the power bank would freeze and my phone still get hot… I think they should invent an freezer pack that I can put between my phone and the power bank… 😂
Send the eagle creek item back to eagle creek and they will fix it. They will fix for free, their items have a lifetime warranty. I have sent an item that needed the zipper replaced.
I looked into it but read that it covers only material and production defects, not rips and tears etc. I guess it’s another case where all those fancy warranties are worth nothing in Europe. Just like Ospreys all mighty guarantee basically only covers production defects for two years or so around here. 🤷♀️
One of the shoulder straps came off / seams ripped and there were lots of small holes all over the bag. I am not mad though. I think it lasted for a long time and we got a lot of use out of that bag. :)
Basically we try to keep our costs as low as possible… and in terms of income, that’s a long story… I talk a little bit about it in my 10k Q&A video. :)
Oh nein, das tut mir wirklich leid. Ich hoffe, dein Geldbeutel beruhigt sich bald wieder. 😂 PS: Wenn er dir “retail therapy” vorschlägt, dann ist das eine Falle!

I noticed that same thing. Many gadgets only work with the cord that they come with. Haven’t found the reason yet.
I remember that tea heater thing from my childhood! Do they let you take it on the plane?
I haven’t been on an airline with it yet, but I see no reason why they should not let me. 🤔 But I will test it on my next flight in November! 👍
You should try out the Rocketbook line of notebooks (many sizes & types) & accessories. Wipeable but doesn’t smear, and uploadable. Game changer.
So to me, forgetting the charger for a four day trip sounds quite traumatic too… 😂
@@MaggiFuchs Love your idea of taking a screenshot of daily activity maps to add to the digital scrapbook. 😊❤
Thanks for the suggestion! 👍
Can you use a usb a to usb c adapter and leave it on the toothbrush cable?
Came here to suggest the same thing. An adapter *should* work for charging the toothbrush, or they might need to try a usb-c cable with a power rating that matches the toothbrush’s input rating. I suspect there’s a mismatch somewhere, which is why it won’t charge.
I will try that, thanks for the suggestion. :)
This sounds legit… I will do some research and see if I can get more information on that… 👍
I ❤ your mobile kitchen in a dedicated pack.
Ha, ha
It’s my pleasure… 😂
I agree about not tossing things that work, but I am also waiting for the day when all of my things will be USB-C only… 😅
I never did a video about traveling with the watch… not sure if there is too much to say.
Thanks for the info, very interesting to hear. 👍 I hope the free replacement works out! 🍀 All the best to you!
Hi Maggi, I just got the Matador Toothpaste tubes. I have a very hard time getting the slide of. Did you have a problem with them?
Mine are also rather tight to slide in and out, but I thought it’s a good thing so they don’t come off by themselves. 🤔
Mine are also rather tight to slide in and out, but I assumed that was a good thing so they don’t fall off by themselves. 🤔
Ich benutze auch die One von Philips… und auch einen OneBlade…. Das Teil hier ist optimal um sich das Kabel zu sparen 😊
Yinke 5 V Typ-C-Rasierer-Adapter
Danke, ich werd mir das genauer anschauen! Everson hat auch einen OneBlade. 👍
I use a AA battery powered toothbrush with rechargeable lithium battery's that the USB - c plugs into direct with a built in charging light.
You are turning into James Bond, with all of these gadgets 🙂
This is a great idea. In hindsight, this would have probably been the better combination.
Or I will turn into Inspector Gadget because I will have to hide it all in my coat when I fly the next time… 😂
@@MaggiFuchs It will take you ages to get through the metal detector if you have to empty your pockets 🙂
My sisters idea: put a freezer pack under the MagSafe and then phone on top of it
😂😂😂 I love your sisters idea! But then maybe the power bank would freeze and my phone still get hot… I think they should invent an freezer pack that I can put between my phone and the power bank… 😂
@@MaggiFuchs it worked for us. Phone didn’t get hot. It makes no sense but it worked :)
@@MaggiFuchs what tore/broke on your bag?
One of the shoulder straps came off / seams ripped and there were lots of small holes all over the bag. I am not mad though. I think it lasted for a long time and we got a lot of use out of that bag. :)
@@MaggiFuchs ok, thank you for the answer. If it was me I would send the bag in. I enjoyed your video!
How do you financially support this lifestyle?
Basically we try to keep our costs as low as possible… and in terms of income, that’s a long story… I talk a little bit about it in my 10k Q&A video. :)
