My buddy tore apart a Cat at 400,000 miles after rebuild. He always uses EDT. Could not believe how clean the top end was. It looked brand new and polished. We could read the serial numbers on top of the pistons. I had never heard of hot shots until then. I use it now.
I need to preface this with I am a diesel mechanic ive been in the industry for about 12 years The truest test you can run is to check your injector balance rates before and after I have experimented over the years and Im less concerned about mileage and more concerned about lubricity I took extensive classes on fuel systems one of my instructors was an engineer at bosch for 30 years he was very knowledgeable the worst thing that has happened to diesel fuel was the change to ultra low sulphur its very difficult to explain but you are dealing with clearances so tight 10ths of 1000th of an inch and tighter in some cases and the pistons in the pump and the nozzles plungers etc. Inside of the high pressure pump and the injectors themselves they rely on the fuel to fill that clearance and create a fluid film to lubricate and prevent steel on steel contact the sulphur was filling that role before but now that its been removed the lifespan of the fuel system has decreased Significantly so the long run life of the fuel system is most important
I don’t get why people don’t blame the fuel companies who control everything, instead of Biden but I guess there a lot of simple thinkers out there that can find there remote to get there tv off of the propaganda channel fox’s fake news
I use the extreme in my detroit dd15. This stuff will clean your fuel filter when you add it while fueling. Works instantly. Immediately stops the quantity control valve surge also. Amazing stuff. Worth the $$
Thank you for your time, I use EDT every time I fill my tank, thanks to one of your videos. I have a 2024 Spriter high roof 170 WB, which is heavy in the back. This truck is on the 21+ gpm every time I use it. I have never had a diesel truck before, and I'm impressed. When I fill up, and it shows 580 miles to go, it is usually crazy.
My two cents #1 I don't buy this for fuel mileage it will never be the same no mater what just because of driving condition each day is totally different. 2. I buy this treatment because it affordable & easy to use. 3. It lubes your fuel pump and injectors & cleans & gets water out of tanks & raises your certain level 7 points. I do not add fuel without this product due to horrible quality fuel and low cetain & lubricity levels in American fuel stations. Do yourself a favor and buy this stuff its at autoparts stores across america these truck are expensive to repair for neglect your fuel system.
I drive an 08 6.4L PSD. Those familiar know the 6.4L PSD has that crappy active regen system the dumps raw diesel in the exhaust stroke in an effort to burn off the particulates in the DPF, and is the primary driver in very poor MPGs. When looking for an additive, I’m looking for a cetane booster and a lubricity additive. As you’ve seen in your test, the cetane boost tends to widen the gap in regen cycles (reduced number of cycles), and is where my primary increase in MPGs come from. Also, ULSD is really dry, so any fuel system will benefit from a lubricity additive. I’ve used Power Service Diesel Kleen, but I’m not against giving EDT a chance.
I’ve been running the EDT in my Kubota tractor since the day it was delivered from the dealership on recommendation of a whole lot of guys on the Kubota forums. It’s been six months and about 35 hours on the clock (I almost always run it 2100-2200 rpm’s to keep it hot because of the DPF) and I’m just now coming up to my first regeneration. I also recently bought a 2004 Excursion with the 6.0. I have a 6 sons and I needed a truck that could hold us all and still be able to tow our 30 foot camper and our ‘14 Expedition was feeling pretty small at that point, it didn’t handle my trailer very well either. First tank on the way home from the dealer got the EDT added because I did not have the Extreme on hand. I’m planning on picking that up as well as their EDT winter formula to start running when it starts staying cold here. Also seriously considering trying out their stiction eliminator when I change the oil and try to clean out the high pressure oil system in my old truck as much as I can.
I bought some rusty lookin diesel at a 7/11 once and it gave me the water in fuel code, put some xtreme diesel in and it cleared up that rusty looking diesel and took away the code. Stuff is awesome! I use the EDT religiously.
I use the EDT and love it . Regardless of how much fuel I add, I always add one once of EDT . I don’t have any problems in the winter with gelling my fuel filter life seems to be extended between changes and my mpg seemed to increase. I swear by this stuff . I buy it from tractor supply for around 15-17 dollars , they say it’s treats 400 gallons I never kept track of that but I feel better using it to me it’s money well spent.
"fuel filter life seems to be extended", "mpg seemed to increase", "they say it’s treats 400 gallons I never kept track of that". If you do not know if there have been any benefits, why are you using it? Oh, you answered that..."I feel better using it to me it’s money well spent".
That's what I've been curious about. I top off my tank almost always at half or more and am never sure how often I should add EDT. I tend to every other tank but I think I'll start doing it 100% unless I notice any strange variables.
@@Diesel_Mountain add EDT IN PROPORTION to the amount of fuel dispensed; for example if you topped off with 10 gallons, using the ratio of 1oz to 25 gallon the math as follows: 1 ➗ 25 ✖️ 10 equals 0 . 4 oz additive 🤔
I would say on tank 3 and 4...the refineries was adding winter additive...i know every Cummins and Duramax I owe and haved owed..when winter comes around mpg's fall off.i know..i work at a refinery!!
I have been having my truck go into limp mode and overheating (about 240 degrees F). I recently towed my horse trailer about 100 miles. I purchase some Hotshot Secret Diesel extreme. I dumped about 8 ounces in a full tank of fuel and drove it without the trailer. The next day I filled up and added about another 8 ounces of Hotshot Secret Diesel Extreme. I noticed when pulling my horse trailer that the temperature reached 200 degrees and seam to run better. I am going to run the diesel extreme fuel treatment every 5000 to 6000 miles using the Hotshot Diesel Fuel Extreme. I am a believer in this product.
Mannnnnn how this savedy life. If you are having the water in fuel light and check engine light flash on and off this solved the issue without spending no more than the cost of this additive.
If EDT works (which I use) why would you need to use the Extreme "a couple times a year"? I run my Ram 3500 as a commercial hauler using 40-60 gals of fuel a day, without turning the engine off. I can tell you head wind, hills, city/highway, and load weight will all drastically affect MPG and Regen, so to see variables does not surprise me. Running 100k miles a year, I use EDT as a preventative maintenance rather than performance enhancer, but if it helps performance so be it.
You use the extreme as a flush right before changing fuel filter then edt during fill ups of if you just bought the truck use the extreme and go to the edt
I agree so many variables on fuel mileage and these additives don’t boost mileage that amounts to anything I run hotshot edt. I add it just for more lubricity.
You use a whole bottle of extreme? Or how much? I just bought a 22 gmc Denali 2500 and don’t know how they treated it before and would like to start off the right foot
I think your milleage is depending on many factors from load, driving habit, age of motor. I use EDT during all fill ups. I use extreme like once every 1-2 years. I prefer diesel service cetane treatment which gives me the best mileage. I'm in a 2008 66 duramax deleted( no def/dpf ) Millegae is 16-18mpg and with a load 13-14mpg,
I’ve tried archoil (oil and fuel additives first) in my Powerstroke. What not impressed. Then a couple of years later came across hotshots additive products and it really worked for me. I’m still running both oil and fuel additive. I can tell when I don’t run the fuel additive. One thing I’ve learned over the years that fuel quality is a must. I only put diesel at the stations that sell 100% gasoline (unleaded) fuel. They usually have better quality diesel. I would recommend using both hotshots oil and fuel additive. They work well together.
@@qwertykevin1 if a station sales 100% gasoline unleaded usually the diesel is a better quality meaning that it doesn’t have biodiesel. Every station pretty much has biodiesel there.
I’d like to see a test of OptiLube vs hotshots. No reason for me to switch from an additive that I’ve used for years on my 6.7 Powerstroke. Give me a real test!

Also, I have been told by fuel people that different gas stations get different fuel MPG. I believe they said Shell gets the best. One farmer told me his tractor motors run smoother.
8:22 Incredible to think 200 or 300 miles to a regen used to be good. On my 2022 f250 Powerstroke (with active Regen inhibitor function turned on) I am currently at 672 miles and my DPF is at 65% full. She’s only got 672 miles on her total, so I’m excited to see if I can make it to 825 miles before regen is needed because dpf is full. I can then turn regen back ON and it will immediately begin, instead of waiting until an inopportune time. Avg mpg for my 672 miles is 21.2. It’s updates that were made to its engine and emissions system is absolutely way ahead of my 2019 f250 Powerstroke.
@@mobkinq sounds like crankcase oil vapor has taken its toll on the dpf. The metals content of motor oil can’t be burned away so it plugs it up more and more over time. Do you have a ton of miles on it?
So that first bottle you were talking about that you run twice a year I just bought some of that stuff today and it says to use 8 oz for 20 gallons of fuel and to use it every 6, 000 miles which I go through that many miles within a couple of weeks because I drive over the road expediting hauling freight in a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 extended tall roof six cylinder turbo and I called number on the back to confirm that and she said yes so what do you think should I use it one more time and then start using the daily stuff
After 1 tank with the strong stuff you should be good to start running the daily stuff but I don't think it would hurt to use it back to back tanks especially considering how quickly you will go through a tank of fuel.
I've heard of the cracked / broken bottle complaints before. Only two solutions that come to mind: leave partial bottle at home, pour into Any other plastic bottle, marked. ☆
I'm curious how dirty your fuel filters where. When I used the extreme my filters were so sorry afterwards that my lift pump was louder than normal. Once I changed the filters my mpg jumped by almost 2mpg on average with the edt treatment. Just my 2 cent's
So you're using the Hot shot secret concentrate formula where you use every 6,000 MI and you're saying that your fuel filter got clogged or dirty because of this product?
Might be worth using extreme just short of fuel filter changes, so it cleans and you get rid of muck before it cycles through too long? Just a thought.
Have you tried Lucas? Deboss Garage channel recommends it for longevity. Showed a real world example of a 5.9 that got 1,000,000 miles plus with heavy towing. Not sure what it does for fuel economy.
Deboss is without a doubt reputable, but that truck was a one off outlier that spent most of its time on the highway pulling.Technology has come a ways since that truck was made but they're aren't enough clean baseline examples of older trucks to get results from when paired with improved modern systems and consumables.
I've been using that hot shot secret concentrate formula for few months now they use 8 oz every 6,000 MI cuz I have a 24 gallon tank in this Mercedes Sprinter 3500 I got one more 8 oz to use after 6,000 mi and I've noticed a big difference it's been cleaning it out after I kill this bottle I'm going to switch over to the everyday one I figured I'd run it like that to where to really clean it out next I'll be putting in the stiction where you add to your oil for when you do your oil change then I'll think I'll stop using the product I just wanted to see if it would make a big difference in cleaning out your fuel system and it seems to be but I'm wondering if long term effects would be bad for using this stuff I called the company and asked her and she said every 6,000 MI to pour 8 oz in my tank so I'm assuming it's fine to be using it like that
Cool vid man, do you run down to a 1/4 of a tank to get those miles on the 03....I get about 525 miles per 30 gallons 06 quad cab 6 speed manual 3:73 gears
What would you recommend? Seems like the hot shot edt is similar to the diesel kleen stuff. The diesel extreme is different since its concentrated for real cleaning. Out of the edt and diesel kleen which would you choose? It does look like the edt will last longer than those diesel kleen bottles and it disperses water unlike diesel kleen.
Did you drive the same route? Or maybe more city driving. I’ve used HS’s in my 2014 Ram Eco Diesel, that I put 105000 miles on. Never had a bit problems with it.
Mine went 22,000 longest ever gone it does pop up on screen I think when it does little regen it don’t I use extreme and edt mine gets better mpg on B5 too I wish I’d never done epa reprogram I used get 25 and better I got a mild tuner after reprogram trans and motor it went to low 20s used get 31 on highway maybe 25 now plus fiat don’t honor there Warrenty worth a crap my trans messed up after reprogram but they wouldn’t do free replace so I had take it get it done some place else they did it cheaper plus gave me better Warrenty too than dealer and they ordered trans from dodge ? Dealership in San Angelo texas sucks. Next one is 125 miles away
@@OutpostCTD Thanks but does it create a 'sludge' that can block the filter tubes? I work in transit and our diesel mechanics say to not add it. I'm just trying to make my DPF last. Thank you.
I like how you hand calculate your info unlike the others out there pushing product. Are you still using the EDT by hotshots I have a 06 Cummins trying to pick a good additive that actually works and is not sum gimmick
I haven't tried it before and I think it is only to be used on the 5.9 (not safe for dpf). There was a study done about 12 or 13 years ago that showed that it reduced lubricity compared to untreated diesel. It may well clean the injectors though. It may be like seafoam where it would clean injectors while dropping lubricity.
So after using 2 oz of EDT at every fill up for the past 2 wks (that's 4 fill ups and same interstate commute). I do not notice any power boost and I've lost 1 to 1-1/2 mpg on my fuel mileage. Ill be swapping back to my good ole Diesel Kleen.
JUST CURIOUS, SEEMS LIKE YOU GOT GREAT MILEAGE AFTER USING THE EXTREME…. HAVE YOU TRIED FILLING THE ED BOTTLE WITH THE EXTREME STUFF AND USE 4 OZ WITH TANK FILL…
Pretty sure the epa will reimburse you for your troubles. Hahaha. Wait, epa says " fk you for trying to do work". Welcome to the modern way of life. How dare you do something
there is not a fuel additive on the planet that will increase fuel economy 1 centilla more than the OEM promised the day the vehicle was sold new. Period end of story.

Let's not pretend all diesel engines are the same efficiency rating or that there aren't external factors that affect power output and fuel economy. Nobody said a fuel additive magically makes more fuel economy. I said that it's possible to get more than the EPA estimated fuel economy out of a car. This was shown on the TDI Beetle when an engineer added an ugly ass wing to the car for aerodynamics. My car getting roughly 50% over its rated mpg. And I remember an Altima Coupe we modified back in 2009 that got 5mpg over EPA estimates after we tweaked the electrical system. I've been in thr car industry for over 20 years and have done lots of MPG modifications over the years. You're arguing with the wrong person.
Let me guess you have an increase in fuel mileage and the engine runs smoother lol. Its all anecdotal bubs so stop the brainwashing. It takes a engine lifetime to notice a slight difference in improvement.

I can then turn regen back ON and it will immediately begin, instead of waiting until an inopportune time. Avg mpg for my 672 miles is 21.2. It’s updates that were made to its engine and emissions system is absolutely way ahead of my 2019 f250 Powerstroke.
I’m getting 150 miles on my 12 f250
@@mobkinq sounds like crankcase oil vapor has taken its toll on the dpf. The metals content of motor oil can’t be burned away so it plugs it up more and more over time. Do you have a ton of miles on it?
I have the extreme and i believe it says you are supposed to use like 16 oz per 28 gallon tank every 6k miles
Where was diesel that cheap!?
What you don’t see the stats on is how clean your injectors are after using it.
Not sure if the video was made in canada.. can you find it at canadian tire or any local canadian auto store ?
So with the extended regen does it help with soot production
My stock truck is giving 647miles before it kicks in REGEN.
Im assuming im getting average of 16 mpg on my 6.7 cause of 37 inch tires. Im fully deleted.
i use EDT, but the bottle leaks. Does anyone know how to fix this? thank you.
I have used it in the past. Mpg was less than without it but it seems like it would add lubricity. I think it works the best in gassers.
I go to about 1/8 tank or so I think. There have been a couple times in the past where I got 600+ miles in one tank
Snake oil?
What would you recommend? Seems like the hot shot edt is similar to the diesel kleen stuff. The diesel extreme is different since its concentrated for real cleaning. Out of the edt and diesel kleen which would you choose? It does look like the edt will last longer than those diesel kleen bottles and it disperses water unlike diesel kleen.
Did you drive the same route? Or maybe more city driving. I’ve used HS’s in my 2014 Ram Eco Diesel, that I put 105000 miles on. Never had a bit problems with it.
How does this work with the 3.0 in line 6 Duramax?
Works with all diesel engines
Any updates?
Great video!
So witch one is better to use?
My region has not came on since I bought the truck at 28000 miles it has 53000 miles on it now. What is going on should I be worried?
It is doing the regen without you knowing. If you have a ram truck I don’t think the truck actually tells you unless you have a 2019 or newer model.
So Hot Shot Secret is snake oil?
At what temperature outside
How do you like it the hotshots EDT vs the optilube xpd
Thanks for the information! Would you try the Lucas fuel treatment?
Lucas is snake oil. Royal purple is better.
What size is your rear end in your 03? I never get over 450 miles per tank but I got a 410 with 33" tires
My 03 has 373 gears with auto trans. I can usually get 500+ miles on a tank. There have been a couple occasions where I got 600 or more.
@@OutpostCTD Thanks for the response I love your videos I I've been following you since you got the truck. Keep up the good work
I do it before but it doesnt matter tho
Great vid but what would that for your DPF? I'm looking to keep the DPF in top shape in my 2013 6.7 F350. Thanks.
It can help get a cleaner burn and have less soot. The hotshot additive is good for dpfs because it doesn’t increase ash.
@@OutpostCTD Thanks but does it create a 'sludge' that can block the filter tubes? I work in transit and our diesel mechanics say to not add it. I'm just trying to make my DPF last. Thank you.
You need to do a def delete get rid of that garbage shit
@@kevinbutler5491 you want my honest opinion delete & tune. eliminate the issue before its an issue.
I like how you hand calculate your info unlike the others out there pushing product.
Are you still using the EDT by hotshots I have a 06 Cummins trying to pick a good additive that actually works and is not sum gimmick
I use it occasionally. Lately I’ve been running b5 biodiesel and then every few months I put a bottle of stanadyne brown in the tank
@@OutpostCTD so you would not recommend it in every fill up?
@@varmint223 I personally don’t do it every fill up. I use it more in the winter than summer though
He don't use the product because it don't work he just got a paid promotion to advertise it
@@Jason-vh6nr Never been paid or sponsored for any content on my channel
Your thoughts on just plain marvel magic mystery oil? Heard great for injectors and smooths out the idle I have found that to be true. Your thoughts
This is old data but here it is: www.jatonkam35s.com/DeuceTechnicalManuals/Diesel_fuel_additive_test.pdf
More a lot of times it’s not always better.
On my 5.9 cummins 05
JUST CURIOUS, SEEMS LIKE YOU GOT GREAT MILEAGE AFTER USING THE EXTREME…. HAVE YOU TRIED FILLING THE ED BOTTLE WITH THE EXTREME STUFF AND USE 4 OZ WITH TANK FILL…
The good days of 2$ diseal before biden
Diesel @$2.49. This the 1950’s?. I’ve never seen diesel that cheap lol.
Half a bottle it says 8 Oz a tank guy 🤣 treats up to 80 gallons
2 tanks is 70 gallons for me. Pretty close to half a bottle treatment.
Pretty sure the epa will reimburse you for your troubles. Hahaha. Wait, epa says " fk you for trying to do work". Welcome to the modern way of life. How dare you do something
Damm diesel was cheap 😢back then 4 years smh
Covid 19 ?
I don’t think it was but quite possible. This was January 2020 and things were just getting started with the virus
Delete your emissions! Your killing your engine!
there is not a fuel additive on the planet that will increase fuel economy 1 centilla more than the OEM promised the day the vehicle was sold new. Period end of story.
SMH. You’ve clearly not done enough research. I’ve gotten 60+ MPG out of my TDI. It’s rated for 40. I wasn’t hypermiling.
@@nathanielfuentes5294 you must have been going downhill , your trip computer is off and needs adjustment or your mathematics is off
@@ox-cetane4887 you’re hilarious. I went to university for math. Maybe you need to educate yourself.
@@nathanielfuentes5294 Have you ever taken a physics class? or even a science class? The btu's are not in the fuel to achieve what you claim. The fact is there is nothing that can be added to the fuel that will improve fuel economy 1/10 of 1 percent more than the original eq1uipment manufacturer claims on the day the vehicle is sold new. Nothing. If you believe otherwise? I have some beach front property for sale on the moon. The fact is the best your vehicle or anybody else's vehicle is going to run is on the day it is sold new. After that it is all downhill. You lose fuel economy over time. That is just FACTS
@ox-cetane4887 Bahahaha. You can't get an applied math degree without physics classes, genius. You're also speaking out of your ass with this BTU BS.
Interesting results
What could be an effect on your trials is weather, outside temp and tire pressure and adding a passenger or other weight to vehicle. it's difficult to get a perfect test on a short term trial in real world driving but I think you provided a great video. Many thanks. I recently started using Hot Shots products and have had positive results. 🍺🥨🍺
