    The thing is, if I'm using my car and having to hustle from location to location, that comes at a cost in any other job. Except this. The things that normally come at a premium are just your working conditions as it pertains to food delivery apps. If at the end of the night, the hour per dollar ratio works out, that's one thing. But to accept those conditions only to find you're making what the lowest paid worker at a restaurant is getting at the end of the night, where they didn't have to go through half of what you did is hard to stomach. Great analysis. I am a former economics teacher. I recently retired and been doing Uber eats/grub hub full time for over three years (mostly because I want to say active). When I first started right after Covid …the market seemed to favor the driver. Gradually over the past three years it had turned in the opposite direction. Basically less deliveries and the ones we do…get paid less. Overall, it is not sustainable. As inflation increases, the payouts and deliveries decrease.

    What frustrates me is that basic things are overlooked. Like why is base pay 1 set amount. It implies that all orders are the same, when that is far from true. They fail to take into account the biggest factor, which is mileage. How does DoorDash run the biggest food delivery app, and yet not smart enough to include the biggest factor in delivering items? It's mindblowing. If done right, customers would not be ordering from the Wendy's 10 miles from their house, when there is another 2 miles away. The drivers would drive less and make more.

    It's simply doordash will never put a cap on how many dashers they hire for each market. Like many others,two markets I work used to be really good. In the last two months, I've noticed way more dashers in both areas and still seeing hiring ads from doordash in each market. Tony's concern is quick deliveries regardless if dashers are doing well or not. And of course lower tips or no tips (trash offers).
    In the end, doordash is thriving, but most drivers are not. I'm platinum, and mostly just get recycled trash. I actually do better with earn by time overall. Believe it or not.
    Be aware of how Tony pays you. Higher the tip,less the doordash contribution. I had a $14 delivery going 9 miles. 12 tip,2 doordash pay. For 9 miles, only 2 doordash pay. Everything has been set up to benefit the company and it's customers. Not the drivers. They knew most drivers would want to be platinum,so how many true platinum offers can go around?

    The Doordash app has too many errors. In-app navigation doesn't direct accurately to either restaurants or customers. Also, the "confirm pickup" page is often missing, meaning a ten minute support chat after you've delivered the order. You have to wait while the support person phones either the customer or the restaurant to confirm that the order was delivered. This extra time wasted makes a $6 order a 30 minute event. ☹️

  • @IkonicInvst

    I completed my first five DoorDash deliveries today, and the only reason I even did it was for the $50 bonus they offered. The experience was frustrating-they put me on a strict one-hour timer for deliveries, and after five orders, I only made $6 in tips.
    In total, I drove for over three hours and made about $30 in base pay, plus the $50 bonus, bringing my earnings to $80 for the day. But after burning through so much gas, it just wasn’t worth it. One order was just two iced teas, and the customer was 20 minutes away!
    On top of that, when you accept an order, you only see the pickup location-you have no idea if you’ll be driving north, south, east, or west until after you accept it. Definitely a thumbs down from me.

    One thing I heard about DoorDash that is absolutely 100% accurate is that while you do still interact with restaurant employees, for the most part, there’s a lot of time that you just spend in your car by yourself and it is lonely and it’s not the same as working a regular 9 to 5 W-2 job where you’re working with multiple people even if it’s only one other person. There is a mental toll that comes with the job which revolves around loneliness, which I don’t really think is discussed enough when it comes to these gig economy, delivery driver applications.

    I think your right, people must be noticing the wear and tear on their cars and wondering if travailing long distant runs are worth it and are they dropping their high AR ratings as fast as most of us by declining offers . AR rating is a joke. As much I decline offers I should be in the teens or single digits but I;m still in the twenty percent range. Their AI system is just learning what each person will be willing to do and what they wont do.

    Im a part time Platinum Dasher, occasionally my AR drops to 65% due seeing bad orders (4-7 in a row in a couple sets). But that being said, opportunities have changed in my area, and the payouts are less than they were... but I have a theory. Even among the platinum dashers, if you are over 80% there is opportunity for the greater pay orders...but customers are not spending and tipping as much as they used to. I would say that make this part of your stream of income, but not the only one.

    I started doing DD a few days ago just to see how it is. I don’t really need DD because I make way more money going to casinos and using my freeplay. It’s a longer drive but well worth it. I’m not suggesting that all people gamble but in my case I have self control and discipline to know when to walk away and it’s been working for me. FYI My You Tube channel doesn’t make me money.. I’m not monetized. DD is just like most other greedy companies that say they care for their drivers but it’s all a bunch of BS sweet talk.

    I'm a Dasher, and I'm Platinum. I'm in an average sized city, if that makes sense. Me being Platinum definitely helps me.
    I make around $35 an hour plus tips. Yes, I have tasks that aren't great, but around 80% of tasks are good. I never worry about tips. I look at the amount, mileage, and keep things very basic. I don't cherry pick, it wastes time to me. I don't complain about Doordash. If i wanna work, I work. If not, I won't. I focus on the benefits. I access my pay the same day. I have superior flexibility with my schedule. I also find being accommodating to customers and polite gets things going a lot smoother daily. Can't please all customers, though.

    • @justinrodgers1485
      @justinrodgers1485 3 месяца назад +8

      Straight cappin. There's absolutely no way your making $35 before tips. Doordash $2 base pay means you'd have to take 17.5 deliveries an hour to make that much money. Completing a delivery every 3 and a half minutes. Completely impossible. If you're gonna lie, at least make it someone believable.

And then when the time you hit the time clock it needs to pay you whether you're sitting or delivering until the time you clock out and I don't mean some $11 an hour I mean they need to pay about $18 an hour in my market if they did that I would be willing to drive wherever they wanted me to. No customers aren't tipping because most customers are just very cheap. Customers paid the driver $7 to travel over 10 mi right? Then, when you drive those 10 miles to that customer's house that paid you $7, they have two to five cars in their driveway. And Doordash is offering customers huge discounts, that's why customers aren't tipping. Those factors play a huge role in why we, as drivers, aren't making any real money with DoorDash.

    • @BrianNunn-og9vv
      @BrianNunn-og9vv Месяц назад

      I don’t blame the customers. Not all customers are aware that after they pay service fee and delivery fee that the driver earns $2 of those fees. No driver should accept any offer and then complain about no tip. Decline. The truth is Door Dash is in business to make money and getting orders delivered. They don’t force anyone to take any orders and they don’t care because they know they will always have enough drivers that will accept undesirable offers. 😢

    I can make $200+ a day 8 hour shift. You have to experiment a lot in several different areas. After 600 deliveries. I learn to stay in the hot-spots, city wise. Rich areas filled with condos. Yes, it sucks to go up and down elevators but people have disposable income when they are paying $3K a month in these areas. During the rush hours, I stay away from delivering food and do groceries instead. Tips are good depending again, which area. It's all about strategy. It took me 6 months to get my drift. Once I did. My tips are on average 45% versus the 15-20% I was getting. Your attitude is going to get you more tips, I leaned that also. It's not about complaining about the job, its how you handle it. Strategy and execution. I can make 1K a week 40+ hours. Not even lying.

Your insurance will not cover your vehicle if its not in there! I had full coverage on my vehicle with my insurance! Should mean no matter what! Iast winter i totaled my vehicle.
