Friday Feature Artist - Séverine Gallardo

🌟 Join us this Friday at 7pm (AEST) as we meet textile artist Séverine Gallardo, this week's 130th #FridayFeatureArtist!
From her home in France, Séverine uses her needle to travel to far and distant places. Inspired by architecture, churches and cathedrals, history, textiles and cultures from the past, her unique headdresses are modern interpretations of all she has discovered. It's the process of creating these embroidered wearable sculptures that is an adventure. Severine says: "My artistic practice is part of my spiritual life because it helps me to live. I like to focus on building my work by following an intuition that guides me. I like working with my hands and letting myself be surprised and guided by them."
The headdresses appear playful but also nod to past tapestries, the ornate and exquisite details telling new stories to their viewers. Severine loves to collect her materials by visiting flea markets or searching online for textiles, beads and fragments to repurpose in wondrous ways. These striking structures, with their landscapes, faces, patterns and charming motifs, are full of intrigue from how they came to be and from where.
They are colourful and tactile, accomplished yet joyful. Severine transforms her materials into three-dimensional tableaus that become travel hats to the time and places she has created.
