Loved this interview with Jo. So much creativity, courage and commitment can be seen in this work. Although Jo is pushing boundaries - it seems that this happens automatically when you have the incentive to play and experiment. Thank you 🙏🏽
This sounds like a blast!
Unfortunate that the sound was very low for Mark and not for Tara, so it was difficult to listen to
I loved this conversation. I am looking into doing debbies course; it ticks so many boxes for a new idea I have
Wonderful, humble artist and truly inspiring, much love xx
Thank you for an interesting feature artist - could Mark tell me about the charcoal on the gelli plate - and also pastels on the plate - does he wash it off after printing?
Hi, most of the charcoal and pastel comes off with the print but if I want my plate nice and clean I just massage some mineral oil into the surface of my plates and then I wipe it off with a cloth and that seems to do the trick.
@@gelwithmark Thank you Mark for taking the time to reply. Loving your method.
Mark your work is amazing! I've been watching your videos on RUclips and was thrilled to see you were the Friday feature artist this week. Thank you for sharing your process - I too prefer to do a one pull print, but have never tried to put paper into the print while in the Gel plate - I cant wait to try this technique!
Thanks for watching it’s appreciated. Yes give the collaging a go it’s fun. I’m going to be posting up a long form video of my process for collage on a gel plate soon on my own channel, so that might give you some tips.
Thank you for postibg this recording. Big fan of Mark's incredible gel plate creations
Thank you for tuning in, yes! We were thrilled to be able to chat to Mark 🙂
Thank you
Was recently referred to this series and already have learned so much, many thanks for making this available. So inspirational!
I like that Mark is so experimental and his work is so ‘process based’. When I was at art school I was told my work relied too much on process, experimentation and accident. They said. What did it mean? concept, concept, concept. They destroyed a lot of the fun!
@@eileenmills9471 yes institute’s can be a bit narrow minded and try to force their own views on to you, which is disappointing.
Does Mark make his own gelli plates?
@@eileenmills9471 no, I have tried but I didn’t really get the results I wanted with the prints from it, so I moved over to commercial plates.
From Canada! Watching in November of 2024.
For me this was one of the best. Thank you Mark for sharing. You have really inspired me to get my gel plate out again. 😊
Thank you, I’m glad I’ve re sparked your interest. Have fun.
Thank you for tuning in and fantastic to hear 🙂
Fabulous! Thank you so very much!
Thank you for such an inspiring talk
Thank you for watching.
Very clever (-: Marion
Thanks
Mark is so imaginative. I am very intrigued to give it a try
😊
@ I forwarded this to my grandson to inspire him also.
Mark Wills I love your problem solving way of doing things. Thank you for sharing this collage technique that I have been fascinated with since I saw your work on instagram. I also did the gel summit and end enjoyed your class in particular. Fibre Arts thanks for doing this interview.
Thank you for watching
Thank you for tuning in and so pleased to hear you enjoyed it. We were thrilled when Mark said yes ! 🙂
It was a very interesting interview, and I learned several tips for my next gel printing. I wish the volumes of the two voices were in the same range, so I didn't need to make Mark's louder and Tara's softer repeatedly back and forth.
Sorry about that, it’s always tricky getting things equal when you are dealing with each person having different equipment and different environments when recording from different countries.
@@gelwithmark I'm unfamiliar with the video editing technique, but since it wasn't live, I thought you could have adjusted the recording. Anyway, I always enjoy this channel. Thanks!
Interesting man, but I did not understand the process....I would like to work quicker as well but that gelly plate remains a mystery to me.....I wish I have subtitles because my Englsh is not mothertongue..Thanks for the video anyway
Beautiful woman Carlotta 🙏 Thank you for sharing your creative self. It’s all about the journey ❤️
Will you write an expanded version of your book?
Kathleen from NSW
loved the conversation, some really sound advice on staying true to yourself, staying on your path and learning from every obstacle on your way, Thank you both
I have always admired Ellie's work. Glad to catch up. Japanese Paper is rich in history. Fond memories of studying in Kurotani (Black Valley) making paper and my hand being checked for bleeding when scraping away the black bark of Kozo (so I did not mark the fibre with my blood
Your work is simply exquisite Karen! There is a sense of both fragility and delicate resiliency! I am so grateful to have encountered your work!
Thank you FATT and Ellie, this is a fascinating interview. It adds beautifully to the learning we did with Donna Watson about Japanese culture and papers. Ellie's work is wonderfully tactile and so beguiling. I wish ...
Kerri, it’d be marvelous if you had an exhibition of your ar work for the blind. They could feel, touch, and really feel your heartwarming work! Hope you can do this in the future. Thank you, Ang and Kerri for a great interview!💖💕💖
Absolutely incredible work! Beautiful.
I am really enjoying listening to Kerri. She has so much personal passion that I can relate to. I love a good find on the street and imagining the possibilities. Recycling, saving, history, imagination, potential is a huge amount of excitement that propels a new project. I have an old barrel chair that I am now looking at with new eyes! ;)
Amazing, I’ve never seen anything like this. Beautiful ❤
Fascinating 😊 made slowly. A contemplation. Im in Australia
I forgot to mention that, as well as paint, I spin. Thoughtful interview Tara, thank you both.😊
Tuning in from New York
Fascinating discussion about Japanese paper making techniques. I loved the history, the story and Eleanor's work.
Thank you for joining this conversation from far and wide - what an amazing community!
Thank you for your comments, for those asking questions about sewing and 'weaving' - yes I use a needle but don't need to wax the thread. When stitching I can make the thread stronger by adding twist to the thread on my Japanese spinning wheel in the traditional fashion!
..question why the water soluble fusible on the canvas..is it used for the trees?..Brenda textile artist in Texas..LOVE maps & thinking about a map of our Texas coastal city on the Gulf of Mexico
This was wonderful. The paper reminds me of a jacket that someone gave me back in the late 70's made of paper. It was from Japanese? Maybe, I really don't recall but I do remember how sturdy it was. I could was and hang dry. Your work is just beautiful Ellie. I just so inspired.
Thank you for our comments, yes Japanese washi is very much like a textile and so strong
Stunning work!
What a wonderful, heartfelt story! Elly's love for the papermakers and their history shines through her talk and her work. Thank you both so much for bringing this to the FAT2 community.❤
Breathtaking work! So soulful and genuine! Thank you for sharing your passion and bringing the onenesses of humans and nature to the foreground 🌿🌻✨🌱🪻✨🌸🙏🏻
Debbie, from the first time I saw the trailer for your course, I was pulled in by your pulled thread work. I have started a piece based on those strips of threads. I see other techniques that speak to me as well. I can't wait until this course opens again so that I can learn more. Your approach is so exciting.
Ty Elly and Tara❤❤❤ This was right up my alley. Love all things paper. The history was fascinating! Elly's time consuming art work must be meditative. Q: does Elly use a needle to weave paper into paper” warp & weft?
Thank you so much for tuning in - glad you enjoyed it, I’ll let Ellie know you have a question 😌
@@taraaxford8687Thank you 😊
Yes it's a meditative process and kozo paper feels so soft and beautiful
(See reply at the top of the comments page)
Lovely to see the shifu and hear about your use of it in all its stages, Eleanor. I was fortunate enough to make it to Mino, in the Gifu region, this year. Visiting the paper lantern museum was a revelation. Of course I bought some paper whilst there!
Thanks for spelling out”shifu “ I wasn’t sure what the was til tonight. 😊
How lovely, Mino is one of the few areas in Japan endeavouring to preserve their paper making tradition. A must for other paper lovers in Japan.
Love from Port Fairy Australia x😊
Wonderful, wonderful work Thankyou so much!
Thank you for this. I am very fortunate that this artist was my introduction to such a high level fibre art.
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you for tuning in 🤎
Really interesting. Oh to go to Japan. It is on the wish list
Late to the table. From Ontario, Canada
so interesting what paper is and can be.
