Calling it now. Based on the ending of HL: Alyx [SPOILERS BELOW] Now that Gordon is free from the Gman's clutches, the latter will unleash Adrian to stop Gordon and Eli's plans. Keep in mind Adrian will still have massive hatred against Gordon for killing his friends back at Black Mesa.
It would make sense to have him return in an Opposing Force 2 or Half-Life 3, do something with him. Plus, you know how Gordon gets referred to as 'The Freeman/The One Free Man'? If Adrian came back they should refer to him as 'The Shepard'. Adrian was the Shepard that Father Grigori prayed for, to tend to his flock in Return to Ravenholm.
I thought grigori WAS the Shepherd. He says something like "a shepherd must tend to its flock, when they become.....unruly. HAHHAHAHAAHAAHAAAHAHAAH!!!" Something like that. :)
I would love to see their two stories clash again. Either they become allies, or are neutral in some way, or Shephard blames Freeman for the resonance cascade and wants revenge or something similar. That'd be interesting to see.
Gordon and Adrian were both just doing their jobs, ending up in a goddamn horror movie, were almost killed by government operatives sent to silence them, and basically single handedly stopped an alien invasion by killing the big gross leader. So if Gman sees Gordon try to escape and mess up whatever plans he has, Adrian is probably no different so of course he's gonna go snatch up Alyx instead.
I mean, Shepard is a military lad. He's used to following orders from a higher up without much question. Obviously after the shitshow that was Black Mesa he's going to be wanting a lot of answers but when it comes down to him, Alyx, or Gordon being most controllable I think Shepard is G-Man's best bet. Doubtful he'll have anything to do with the next game regardless because of his Shrodinger's canon status.

There's no mention of Adrian Shepherd, Gina Cross or Colette Green outside of their expansions, Barney Calhoun is the only one mentioned outside of his game, and you can't say if that counts for sure, because the security guard model in Half Life is called Barney, so he could be ANY generic guard Gordon encountered in the first game
