Very informative - thanks. More to the point Renault were charging £1K for the CCS option. I didn't understand why the Play model didn't have CCS as an option (other than they want you to buy a more expensive car). Peugeot still have CCS on the lowest spec E 208. I sold my ZE40 last year and one factor was that I thought the lack of CCS on it would be noticeable to used buyers in a couple of years time. I didn't have Bose on my ZE40 but the standard speaker system was actually ok in my opinion though I did have to play around with the settings to get the bass right (and I like my music). The thing I always thought the Zoe required was adaptive cruise control.
I bought my (import from France) 6 months old ZE 50 R110 without CCS. Why? I live in the Netherlands and i drove a Zoe Q210 before and hardly visited fastchargers with it. Why not? Well the Netherlands is a small country, with a full battery on my ZE 50 i can almost get to Calais if i wanted to, so driving in my country isn't a range problem. Also the Netherlands are "littered" with public chargers. And my motto has been with my 82000 kilometres in my Q210: A B C (Always Be Charging). When i go somewhere i almost always plug in and juice up. Will i get less money back for my Zoe in a few years? Offcourse, but i also paid less for it. Bur getting it was a very good decision, what a improved Zoe, the drive, less noise, the new dash, and the led lights, WOW!!!!
Same is true for England, my ZE50 gives me around 215 miles (with Eco driving) on a full charge which is why I hardly ever use the public charging points. 22 kW is not bad.
When I read the title of this video, I thought you meant that they were ditching CCS! 😁 I'm glad I chose the CCS option in my car, even though after almost an entire year, I still haven't used it.
£1,000 is not minuscule to most people, but it's less than 4% of the purchase price of the car. Worth having? Certainly! If you have to top up your battery charge for a couple of hours en route instead of 40 minutes, then you'll soon be wishing that you had opted for CCS. Renault are making the correct choice.
The wireless phone charger on my car Zoe GT Line has not worked for six months had the car service in January and was told a update was coming to fix the problem.?....apart from that great car...thank you for all your videos they have been great help.
I don't know whether it was intentional 'clickbait' to get punters to watch your video? But when I read your headline that the CCS option was being scrapped. I assumed CCS was being discontinued on all future Zoes which would definitely have been stupid. It certainly got me watching the video!
@Nicolas Raimo, I have a non-CCS version "ZE50 iconic", can I use the "Type-2 to CCS Adapter" (or Type-2 to CHAdeMO" adapter) for faster (than 22kW) charging? something similar to what Tesla has done for older cars, basically Tesla is upgrading its older models from Type-2 to CCS, is this something Renault may also consider doing? TIA.
@Nicolas Raimo thanks for your reply. Looks like I have to live with it. I guess there's no point in contacting Renault to explore possibilities for upgrade. Although 22 kW is not too bad.
The reason it's removed is to push customers towards using their paid subscription. You can pre heat through the crappy app. The thing is, you get like 3 years of Renault connectivity for free when you buy new Zoe and after that period of time you have to pay to keep your car connected to the app.
For a Tesla t is possible to purchase a CCS to Type 2 Adapter to allow a Tesla Model X or S use CCS chargers. Does anyone know if this adaptor would also work on Renault ZOEs (some ZE50s can have Type 2 fitted from new) which also only have a Type 2 socket. If I understand correctly? The non ZE50 ZOEs with the Renault Chameleon Charging connector can charge at up to 22 kwh on AC ( Q motor ZOE will charge at 41kwh) The Renault Chameleon system converts AC to DC doesn't it? What do you reckon?
I wish car manufacturers would offer 22 kWh AC charging as standard, rather than offering faster DC charging. It is much cheaper to install a 22kwh charger then a DC one. Also type 2 is way more reliable than CCS. Partly why every village/town in France has fast AC charging (installed by the state).I have an e-niro and rarely get 50 kWh at a CCS charge point - even the ionity ones. Also 22 is much better for the battery.
I'm on my 2nd Zoe & I now have a 135 GT I changed to get CCS charging. The new Zoe is light years ahead of my old Q90 40kw except for 1 thing. I hate my internal rear view mirror to be automatic as they don't work - give me back my flicky mirror so I can adjust it myself!
Hi Nicolas I just bought a ZE50 R110 and I’m seeing if you can help me with that thing that we do in the Zoe 1st gen to do hard reset ( brake + throttle + button to “full” reset the range) do we have some like this in ZE50?
Hi Joaquim, technically the 2 pedal reset never gave you useable extra range it was just to clear driver data to let the computer relearn driving styles faster than over the next 20 trips. Resetting your average mpkwh will effectively do the same
Next they need to fix the ridiculously low CCS charge rate. It's the reason the Zoe 50 is one of the longest times there is on Bjorn's 1000km challenge.
You didn't watch the video properly. NO CCS on the Play (base model that never had it anyway). CCS as standard on Iconic and GT-Line. It used to be a £1000 option.
Hi can you not buy a ccs adapter like you can on the Tesla so you can charge on a ccs I know it will still be at 22 kw but at least if there isn’t a type 2 you can still charge on the ccs ?
Hi Steven, it’s not possible as zoe is AC power, Tesla system is very different they use DC power via the type 2 AC pins and the switch systems on the car know how to change
Your video lighting is much better now. Good choice getting rid of the colour changing light, must be much easier to edit the videos. Sun visor mirrors are very handy for keeping an eye on toddlers. Lots of people said that wireless charger just packed in after a while anyway. I think they remove lots of options so that they can order in big batches of cars to sell from stock instead of customers waiting weeks/months for built to order cars being shipped in from Europe.
Great video with a nice "hook". If I won the lottery and wanted to import one, can you charge it on 120 outlet. Or on type 2 . And is ccs the same in us and uk.
Hi Douglass guessing your in US? Shame Renault don’t sell over to your market I think they’d do very well. 120v I think it would charge just slow….. Our ccs plugs are slightly different there’s a video on my channel explaining difference in plugs 🔌
@@NicolasRaimo so even if I would import one, I wouldn't be able to charge it here on ccs? What about type 2 level 2 charging? Is there any adapters for European ccs to American ccs?
Great. But what are Renuault doing about all stupidities in the software of the car? Such as: Any possibility to set battery temperature prior to leaving home? Might not be an issue in warm France but when it is -25C outside, then the charging speed 180km later is limited to
Other then the CCS these Zoe changes are strange. Has anyone managed to get a response from them at all? Pleased I got my GT last year now, even with the teething issues! I didn't have the BOSE option. Not really a sound connoisseur so not needed for me, found the standard system perfectly fine.
I am thinking of changing my ZE 40 later this year and was considering the GT Line, now I'm wondering whether Renault might be exchanged for another company. The prices aren't going to come down but the spec is, that's not a marketing ploy that is likely to bring existing owners flocking to stay with the brand. Frankly I think that all models including the Play should have CCS, even the bottom of the range driver has time constraints and should have charging parity.
@@NicolasRaimo I did wonder if there's yet another Zoe/car model in the pipeline, but it wouldn't make sense to downgrade the existing model, why not just sell out.
Is this why people had the fake CCS port? Also what about people who paid extra for it? will they get it back? My car is 3 weeks old and I paid for CCS - that's going to damage their rep if they don't add that cost in to the RRP
Haha.... unbelievable! WTF are Renault playing at!? When you're spending around £32k on a small car, you at least expect creature comforts, especially on the top spec model. You'd definitely expect some of those options on the GT line too! Regarding buying electric cars in general, it would be so helpful if dealerships included a photo of the actual charge socket for the car in their advert. I spent ages looking on autotrader and found that the majority mentioned fast charging in their adverts, but then found out that wasnt CCS, which is of course Rapid charging. Quite misleading. I really fancied a Zoe GT line. I could have put up with no centre arm rest, but blimey.... its 2021! 🙄 I think that the MG ZS EV is going to be a far better bargain. So much car for the money. Cheers for a great informative video. 👍
I wonder if Renault UK were about to put the price up for the GT line to just above £35,000. Instead they decided to keep the price below £35000 so it would still get the £2500 grant. To keep Head Office happy they had to agree to take out the items you mentioned to keep the cost down and cash in on a reduced market for BEV’S priced around £35000.
Renault’s job is making and selling new cars same as other car makes, no car company in history makes there old models better that’s what aftermarket is for
Part of it does help streamline specs and models kept at UK renault stock levels means better management of cars and faster delivery times however some of these i agree with others i disagree with as you can tell from the video ;)
This makes no sense. I can understand Renault pulling some standard features if they bring the starting price down, but to remove lots of popular standard features from even being an option? Now everyone will just keep their existing Zoe longer or buy another brand that has these features. Any word on pricing changes @Nicolas Raimo? That could be the nail in the coffin for this decision.
Love it , remove the Bose , great pointless a name of a stereo when most don’t know the difference , and it is just big block in the boot , so it looks like no more sales of the false boot storage system . Ps hate the retro logo from Renault
Yeah, great idea Renault. No one ever wants to charge their phone while they're driving. And anyone who does will be delighted to have wires all over the place to remind them they're charging. (Heavy dose of sarcasm there). Where's the 'banging head against brick wall icon' on RUclips?
