Adapted from author Gail Carson Levine's award-winning children's book of the same name, the Miramax-financed modern fantasy Ella Enchanted is directed by Tommy O'Haver and stars The Princess Diaries alumna Anne Hathaway. Ella (Hathaway) lives in a magical world in which each child, at the moment of their birth, is given a virtuous "gift" from a fairy godmother. Ella's so-called gift, however, is obedience. This birthright proves itself to be quite the curse once Ella finds herself in the hands of several unscrupulous characters whom she quite literally cannot disobey. Determined to gain control of her life and decisions, Ella sets off on a journey she hopes will end with the lifting of the curse in question. The path, however, isn't easy -- Ella must outwit a slew of unpleasant magical creatures ranging from ogres to talking books with evil plots. Though perilous, Ella's adventures turn out to be necessary obstacles in the path toward finding herself, and maybe even true love along the way. Fun fact: "Somebody To Love" was not the original song choice. Director Tommy O'Haver discovered that Anne Hathaway didn't have very good chemistry for a more classical "fairy-tale" song, which was their first choice. In the end, O'Haver and Hathaway were relaxing when Hathaway started dancing to and singing along to Queen's "Somebody To Love" and they both decided that this was it.

With how this world is a mashup of the modern world in a fairy tale setting, this song makes more sense than Someday My Prince Will Come.
The first time she ever sang in an acting role. Can we just give props to this girl right here? Considering the short gap between this and Les Mis, that's incredibly impressive.

I read that she was actually first choice for Phantom but due to scheduling conflicts with Princess Diaries, the part went to Emmy Rossum. I love Hathaway but Rossum did a great job playing Christine.
@@mary11976 because Emmy Rossum is classically trained, but what makes the movie a tad bit weird, but not too much, is that she was 16 at the time of filming. One of my favorite things she did was collaborate on a song with Dolly Parton

As a 2000s kid, this movie was the first time I ever actually heard this song. I love when movies and tv shows introduce you to songs you would never have discovered on your own.

When I was younger I thought this song was written for this movie, cuz I didn't know that songs could be used like that in movies. I thought so because the lyrics fit Ella's situation so well. Only when I was older and with the power of the internet did I realize that Queen actually did this song.

I don't think any mentally healthy human would say anything bad about Anne's voice. It's probably one of the best voices I've heard and that was a big discovery for me. It's pity she almost never sings

When I first saw this, like 7 or 8, i genuinely thought it is a good song. After a few years,when i watched this again, 12 yrs old, i searched up the band and admired QUEEN... then i just realized I know most of their songs even before I knew them... i have been jamming to Don’t stop me now and more even before I saw this movie...
Now i am 18 and i am so grateful that I found their masterpieces earlier in my life.

Freddie wrote this song over forty years ago. He felt it was a better composition than Bohemian Rhapsody. Beautiful layered harmonies by Queen. His Mother’s favorite song. Almost impossible to believe but their live version was a sight and sound to behold. Freddie singing it and playing piano in Montreal is a great example.

Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite actresses. She is so carefree and natural. In this movie, she basically does it all! She can sing, she can dance... and it's got a great message. I'm sure sometimes everybody feels like people are telling them what to do and say all the time. And it's good to know we are not alone.

I loved this movie and this was always my favorite scene. I don’t know why, I actually love Queen so much. And when I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody and this was the opening song my heart filled with so much love and I was a little kid sitting in my mom’s room watching this movie.
