Something a bit different today! You can save over $100,000 and STILL buy a Swiss Luxury Watch! HA! The Mido has been a nice surprise. Really excellent leftfield sports option, and looks really rich on the rubber. A couple of small tweaks though and it'd be even better. Cheers, Jody
Mido released the Multifort TV in 1973. Patek didn't release their Nautilus until 1976. This is *NOT* a homage watch, Patek (and Gerald Genta) copied Mido's homework.
Indeed, affordable alternative!
Paganitek
That's how we sleep at night wearing Midos.
@@Makingnewnamesisdumb😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wow, I did not know that Patek makes Hommage Watches. Maybe Pagani one day will be the new Patek. 😂
Back in September on Father's Day I saw that David Jones Australia was selling the Multifort TV Big date in stainless steel online with the orange rubber for $1,250AUD instead of the $2kAUD normally. Needless to say I jumped on that so quick. They sold out in no time. The rubber strap is great quality but I put it on a black suede vintage style strap with exposed stitching. It looks even more amazing now.
its been out for ages, got an Ocean star myself, Mido are massively underated
not this model, the big date
LOL I love the subliminal messaging at the end of the video. Thanks for another great review!
Mido is the most slept in watch company on this planet. Mido is amazing. My Ocean Star has relegated the rest of my collection to the box for the most part
Speaking as the most style savvy person in the entire universe, it’s either the brown dial or the green dial. The other 2 colors are commonplace, and this is not a commonplace watch. Jody, I agree with you about the ghost lume pip, but I think the shoulders at the top and bottom work. They wouldn’t look as weird without that pip.
The thinking man's Patek! (or broke) 👌😎
Nah, thinking. You can buy a lot of really good wine for $100,000.
@@johnsrabeAnd with enough bottles the Mido on your wrist will become a Patek
I've been championing the brown watch trend for a while now, good to see you getting with the programme😂
I love the Swatch group products. I have many Rado and Tissot watches and I love them all. As for the gold colour coating… I have a small low priced Tissot that is 18 years old and has PVD applied gold accents that look as good as new and the 2824 movement has never been serviced and still keeps great time! The Rado’s all have great scratches proof cases. Four of my Rado’s have ceramic cases and all look like new after many years service. The hard metal cased (tungsten carbide) Rado’s also look like new after many years of daily service.
I love my Mido ocean star tribute
nice timing, I've been eyeing this and the Belluna Royal Gent lately
My wife saw this exact watch at the Time & Tide popup here in Brisbane this weekend it was her favourite of all the watches there… maybe I can talk her out of her Apple watch… and thank you Jody for ribbing her, it actually worked 🎉
I have been casually eyeing the blue. Great watch and great review!
I've been coveting this piece for a while now. I'd need it on a bracelet though so stainless steel and different colourway. I love the date on this.
You broke your vow! It’s another Mido!
Love this watch, I’m probably going to have to end up buying it. Between this and the Formex Essence Gamaret…
That brown and rose gold looks so good! That colour combo would look great with a blood red dial too.
Really like these. Cant help think of the old Egyptian footballer Mido whenever I see the brand name though!
That’s a handsome watch and I agree that’s the best colour scheme.
the orange strap, black dial looks amazing
What a gorgeous watch! I gotta put this on my list.
Nice timepiece from Mido!
that's the best looking mido i've seen
This makes a 70s style tv-case watch very attractive. I wouldn't be spending this kind of money on one, but certainly there are other options. Thanks for this video!
I love that. Brown is my fave. Except for Black, Grey, Green, Gold... anyway my first ever watch was a Timex with brown sunburst dial. Yours is nicer. Thanks for the show.
Once again, this is a great watch that I just would be pretty unlikely to buy. That seems to be my theme song as of late. I just don't really get into square/angular watches very much but I must say I LOVE that colorway! Not really a rose gold guy but it looks fantastic with that brown dial. I do also love the big date. A coworker has a pretty dressy Tudor with a big date. He calls it a double date and he is rarely wrong but same idea. At just under a grand US, the Mido seems like a pretty good deal as well! Good vid and you definitely showed it to good effect, as always.
I’ve also at bought the black dial stainless version a few times. A great looking watch.
80 hour power reserve is the cake!
Wow, I really think that color scheme is brilliant!
I have the blue version with Stainless steel and rubber strap. I love it.
Between the big date, unique but elegant case shape and the quality fitted rubber, Mido has done a lot right to elevate this watch above its price tag (and, if I'm honest, their other offerings). Add in the other details and it's definitely worth a look
Nope, its the other way round. The Mido came before the Gerald Genta design, so Patek in fact has a whiff of Mido.
I like it alot. Does not look too big for your wrist. Nice and different
Agreed, big date is on point. Looking at their website. IMHO it looks better on the strap. Noting that there is a blue strap, but still no black. They really should do one
Kudos on keeping an open mind , I do remember you saying something along the lines of “I don’t like Mido, I will never wear one”. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
That’s a beauty!
I really love the green model of this with the bracelet. If I bought one I’d buy a strap for it too because I’ve been really enjoying a good fkm/fitted rubber recently.
The Mido also reminds me a bit of one of my personal dream watches, the Glashütte 70s Panoramadatum. Which only seems to be available new as a Chronograph now, but there used to be a simple Automatic model as well.
Love this watch! But don't love the rubber. I'll take it on a bracelet.
Not something I'd usually go for, but this looks really sweet.
I have this in green on the bracelet, picked up a fitted rubber from aliex, it is such a fun watch
Already have two Mido’s in my collection. Have been eyeing this model for months ( the none plated one ).
I'm convinced that my favorite watch even though have yet to find has a beautiful dark chocolate brown and gold details. This seems close.
I like these kind of watches with flat brushed bezels.
Beautiful watch. I've always wanted a brown watch but never found one that's moved me to reach for my wallet. Automatic means that this one won't either but still, lovely!
Really solid option to the Nautilus in most terms.
However, the case symmetry is the main charm of the Nautilus to me
Good looking watch. Out of my price range even grey market but still very nice.
I bought a Christopher ward watch and really havet been interested in many watches since
I got a Tudor last month and haven't worn anything else since. It's actually spoiled the hobby for me as I'm losing my interest in other watches. Always wanted to find 'the one' but it has it's downsides!
@@nikc1313 which one did you go for?
Im most definitely gonna be getting one in stainless steel. I looks great in rose gold and rose is my favorite gold, but i just wont pay over $200-300 for anything plated or coated. Been looking at it since release and find myself more drawn to it each time.
I'd only want to wear one if round and stainless steel including bracelet. It should have a high beat movement even if it hurts power reserve, imo. Can't get into rose gold on a rubber strap ..
It's got a lot of features that I don't like on watches but somehow the result looks attractive. Not so keen on the rubber strap but that might grow on me too, easily changed if not.
I want to try the Mido on, but, there aren't many Mido retailers in Nor Cal.
I prefer the look of the Mido
Really like the watch.
A really beautiful watch!
Thanks for the great review! It’s a bit outside my price range but a hell of an alternative. You know what’s not outside of my price range… the Origin GMT! Bring it! Looking forward to the introduction.
You can get them half price on the used markets. Get on it 💪.
@@nemlol Very nice. Thanks for the tip. 👍🏼. It’s a hell of a great looking watch.
I really like these; have handled them in my local store but just wasn't tempted by the existing colorways. I promised myself I am trying to downsize my collection 😩... but this brown and rose gold...👀
I really like the look of this, I see you get steel ones on a bracelet as well that are a good bit cheaper.
On the U.K. site the blue SS can be had with the dark blue rubber strap. Nice design, pity they don’t ha pre the confidence go for it with a higher quality movement and go the whole hog with solid gold
I prefer bronze instead pvd but ok it's a Good Watch!
This is one that’s been on my list for some time now. I want the ombré dial with the orange strap version
The 12 and 6 bezel design seems like an attempt to "integrate" the bracelet style into the case without having an integrated bracelet
scouring the AAWF page for one in 2 weeks!
That big date is really awesome! It just seems like a premium date complication. First time seeing that big date for me.
They don't have that plastic escapement in that movement do they?
A white dial in steel would be nice.
This is not a plastic escapement. This has a C07.651. according to watch base the C07.6xx are a regular escapement, while the C07.1xx have plastic.
@@Yoshikaable Thanks, that is good to know.
Love Midos!
Hope you got to keep the watch! 📺
Lovely watch!
I've shown incredible restraint not to put one of these in my watch box. This colour isn't for me, but one if the others will definitely be on my wrist at some point.
I'm very surprised to find I like this watch, it should be too big, I don't like gold or brown, but it just works 👍
Like the "Big Date"....not so much the "TV dial". Also, while cheap in comparison, it's still well outside my price comfort zone. I fear 4 digits. 😄
Hi Jody, would you do a video dedicated to aqua terra alternatives? Big brands, micro brands, aliexpress brands, all the brands. Thanks :)
It’s beautiful watch for the price ,does the strap do a 8 inch wrist, its the one I’m going for thanks 🏴❤👍
I'd love that in a 37mm
I got their baltic small seconds homage
I've been wanting to buy this model, but my research (watching too many RUclips videos) shows that it has issues with the date complication. Wonder if Mido addressed this issue?
Loved the TV since release but ditto, that orange strap put me off and I don't do bracelets. Agreed that the goldylook looks better, but good god, this is crying out for a titanium case and same brown dial/brown rubber. Like the JeanRichard Terrascope might have been before the plug was pulled.
Am I the only one thinking a smaller version would be good? Given the case shape, maybe 36 or 37mm width with everything else reduced in proportion would wear better for most people.
Handsome. Not sure I’d pay £1000 for it, though with a Powermatic inside. I’d be comparing it to a PRX which is a banger at c. £500.
2 important points:
1) The early production batches had a flaw in the movement that would cause the date window to get stuck at the same time each month and would only cycle via moving the time, not via quick set. If you have the issue Mido will repair your unit under warranty, takes no time at all.
2) For the folks in Australia - please don't pay RRP for thrse, they can be had for 20% off without any issue any most ADs.
The person who wears this lovely piece has leather bound books and their apartment smells of rich mahogany. 😏
Literally saw this MIDO homage earlier today. 😂 Did a double take.
Not a homage. Mido released the Multifort TV three years before Patek released the Nautilus. The Patek is the homage.
@@montys8th Correct. I was just about to say that
Sooo... "Paganitek"? 😄
One of many Mido watches on my radar. And unfortunately that radar is chokkers!😵💫😵💫🤣
Really hard to see that "Never"! Cheers!
I went shopping for the Mido and accidentally bought the Patek.
Ha!
Man, if I had a nickel
That's so unfortunate. 😅
Almost perfect for me.. that date at 12 will bother me 344 days of the year
TV cases on the rise!
That’s only if you like that style. Love your video nonetheless.
Well that surely applies to anything, right?
What's with the: " you saw the pop-up" and then he points out to the ceiling with a siren that goes off. I don't know what pop-up he's talking about. Never saw one and never noticed one. I must be or blind or just stupid!!! Secondly, if the alternative to a Patek is a 2000 $ watch, well I'm on the wrong channel! Thanks for the savings Jody and by the way the resemblance is a bit far fetched.
Haha, dial looks like a mid 20th century wallnut bedside cabinet.
I'm surprised the uneven lines/ridges on the plate weren't mentioned in your niggles. I saw that and was immediately put off. (It's especially pronounced around the 2 & 5 markers. Your other niggles aren't as much of an issue compared to that flaw...
Love a rubber strap
To those saying that Mido didn't copy Patek, why is Mido offering pretty much the same colour options then?
I think the designs aren't even "that" close, but Mido offering the Multifort with this dial and a red or orange strap is quite clearly them trying to look like the Patek.
It's $1310.00 in US dollars. Not my kind of watch. They tend to wear rather big. Thanks for the review. I think the movement is the same in the Hamilton and Tissot watches. As mentioned by Jody you can get this for around 1000 dollars I am guessing the grey market sellers.
Yes…more big date watches at reasonable prices.
Buy Mido… use $ saved 2 buy triple Weber VH Pacer in factory hot pink… still $50K ahead…!!! 👍🤣
$112,000 Dolloridoos! My good it's a really different world! (written before moans and niggles)The Mido doesn't look too bad but the dial looks plastic :( , the Aliexpress "homages" have nicer dials.
Also, they couldn't be bothered with leather at that price point? Yikes. Maybe I'm too old school, but rubber on something like this just feels wrong to me.
The close-ups are rough. It looks like DIY 3D printed.
Subliminal blipverts Jody? Tut, tut...😊
🤫😉
Well I 'Never'... 🤣
If I ever spend a grand or more on a watch, ask me if I’m ok…
Zoom in on the dial, the texture is uneven... looks unfinished.
