I saw them in Biloxi, MS on this tour. Changed my whole view of what live music was and is. Still the greatest live show out of 500 plus shows over my lifetime.
I've watched this a million times...saw 'em twice on this Farewell Tour in '82, and this intro just kicks ass! Pete, Roger and John at the top of their game here. Kenney Jones is bad ass on drums too. So tight!
Rented the VHS tape of this concert from my local video library in 1987, still love this concert today. John Entwhistle has to be the best bass player ever
@@jamiee1519 Hi" I'm mark, any-which-way/ why-way/etc. I was curious about (your' memory) about the specifics" of Pete Townshends' ( GolD) colored guitar,...Well, thee Sound of "IT", If that makes sense? did He sound like Ace Freely? I have lived in Ca. my whole life, & have seen them several venues Take Care!
Watched on tv and Q107 live broadcast first one I ever heard excellent almost blew the speakers out me Mom tried to turn it down but I was not having any of that. Best Memories of me and Mom at home just us rocking on love you Mom say hi to Patrick tell him the Rolling Bones are still touring but can't beat the Who for live performances 😀😀🎉🎉🎉💥💥
Agreed that Kenney Jones was underrated in his time with The Who. But to say that Keith Moon was overrated is simply ridiculous. He is known as one of the greatest rock drummers ever by numerous experts and many of his contemporaries .
03:58 Many rock fans don't understand that unlike Paul Stanley and many other fakers, when Peter windmills, he REALLY fucking windmills. Most rock fans have seen that classic photo from 1980 after a show where his nails are bleeding like crazy. He would literally rip through fingernails and cut through skin, not so much to impress the fans (although it was a great stage gimmick), but to create that magic WHO SOUND. You can really only sound like The Who if you attack the guitar in that way.
Saw them in '82 at LA coliseum and Pete's guitar was LOUD, the whole band was LOUD, but his guitar really cut through the mix. This mix doesn't quite do them justice, BUT THANKS FOR SHARING THIS !!! Not a complaint, just a statement.
To me their at their best since live at Leeds here, why Kennedy Jones was derided is beyond me, here he is drumming far better than latter period moon was
Everybody back when John rarely got a close up: I feel so bad for John I wish he gets the close ups that he deserved. Everyone now that john has a close up: *silently talk about other bands and how hot Roger is*
At first I thought this was from the original broadcast but it isn't. On I Can't Explain you hear John's overdubbed backing vocals which was added for the DVD release. I wish the original cable video broadcast was available somewhere and not just the DVD release. The DVD release added not only Johns dubbed in backing vocals but cheesy camera effects and less direct camera shots of Pete.
There's never been a DVD release. We want one but it's not been forthcoming...only VHS. You're right though - the edited release is different including songs that were performed but aren't included and moving around the songs. I watched it LIVE that night and once upon a time I had a BETA recording I made that night but alas when I tried toburn a DVD the old Beta machine at the tape... I have the original now though and someone has put it on youtube including the night before...it's here!! LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!!!
Roger, your Mum called, said, "Stop that thing you are doing Love with the microphone.... you're going to put an eye out, and influence that bloke from KISS."
Poor guitar....Pete was most certainly a guitar beater!!!.....and the way Roger threw that poor mic around....wth....these fellas gave Rock an image....Kick ass Rock!!....sometimes they d even Roll......
Kenny jones wasn’t Keith but Keith wasn’t Keith for a long time. John and Pete’s playing had matured an Kenny was a good match. I heard Roger had a problem with him. Simon and Zach are a suitable substitute but I wish they would have stuck with Kenny
to me this is the who at their peak, great energy[ keyboars padding out the sound[ townshend sloimg effortlessly [ kenny fantastic, why he was dropped i dont know, far better than zak
@@corinaplacious5000 I know, Roger always complained about Kenny's playing, and that he was not up to Moon's level. I think the Who sounded better with Kenney Jones than with any other drummer.
Can you imagine the repercussions if that mike snapped off and brained a member of the audience ??? It always makes me nervous to watch Roger swing that thing around !
I think over the years Roger has tried to change what he said he was misquoted on, I have read various places recently that Roger says he liked both Keith and Kenney’s drumming and that he was misquoted at the time.
Actually after reading Roger’s book I found out why Kenney wasn’t the right drummer for the band. Kenney was an extraordinary drummer but didn’t have the adrenaline and creativity for The WHO.
Flint Stone I disagree. Many nights on this tour it was apparent straight away that Pete wasn't into it. Dallas, for example. At 1:45 in you knew this would be different.
Kenney Jones was just god-awful. Terrible. A time-keeper and nothing more. Endless nonsense on the snare. Zak is of course the real deal. And Moonie was great 'till about '73 or so. Booze & pills got the better of him in his later years.
David James... We're all awaiting your next post where you provide links to "Best Rock Drummers"....Kenney Jones can't crack the top 100. Drummers know drummers.
He was the drummer they needed at the time. He was definitely better suited to the material Pete wrote with his playing in mind. I love hyperbolic bullshit statements like yours, gives me something to reply to on this cesspool of a Web forum.
how? is kenny awful, watch this, also far better than zak, and moon was vastly overated, finished after 73[ listen to his drumming on who by numberes pathetic

same. 1982 in toronto 3 times. perfect rock band.
Only done like the Who can
Kenny was really bangin it out to
I've watched this a million times...saw 'em twice on this Farewell Tour in '82, and this intro just kicks ass! Pete, Roger and John at the top of their game here. Kenney Jones is bad ass on drums too. So tight!
Kenny did fine was really working the skins❤😅
At their second peak here , Kenny gave them energy, cruelly underrated drummer
Yep he did great !!
Rented the VHS tape of this concert from my local video library in 1987, still love this concert today. John Entwhistle has to be the best bass player ever
The concert was aired live in Canada. It was fucking awesome!
Agree 👍
IT was SUPERB!!! I taped it in my BETA - the FULL gig but this is the edited/released version...I LOVE the camera angles of the original!!! xx
I remember it well....thank God,I finally found a legitimate release of the video and,cd of the gig,not too long ago. I've hoped, for years.
It also aired LIVE on Radio Everwhere......I heard in MIAMI FLA. on K102.7.....😈👻👹
Listen: I was there. This was my first concert.
Same here!

WOW!! I am envious.....did the Clash support them on the night?....if they did that would have been the best gig ever

Parker Balfour ......me too! When the might Q was a decent radio station!

I've watched this everyday for the last year. Never gets old.
Great quality. Was in front row that night. Nice to see again.

I first saw this on VHS in '94....loved it so much,I didn't return it....my bad!!!!Lol.
Great to see this again, many thanks!
The rough boys are looking very pretty!!!
Superb Quality...Thank's so Much...
Roger that zip suit hunny😍 and Pete work those leathers 🔥 y'all boys never fail me, this version sounds soooooo sweet.
The Who are on my Mt Rushmore of rock.

Robert Swanson
Mmmm ... lucky you! I have to use hearing aid 🦻. That is rock 🎸... Loud👏👏👏
The Clash opening band for that show too!
Nice HD upload, thanks again for sharing.
See ya in Raleigh on the 14th!
- The bass player from the Dave Grogan band :) aka The Bass from Space
Entwistle. F--k yes.
These guys will be in a home with walkers and still rock.
I più grandi di tutti.. E di tutti i tempi.
Kenny Jones in The Who was totally underrated. Just a hell of a drummer. Real talent. 🤘🤘
Awesome,
two great opening tracks[ full of energy[ they never bettered this show[ in my opinion
IMO Charlton 1974 and Kilburn 1977 tops this. Keith Moon on drums, they were younger and didn’t have that weird fashion confusion!
Wish this concert was on a streaming service.
career best townsend that night. their best ever gig
asdfghjklkjhv bvcvjhvlyhb looking back now , they where electrifying to seev🎸
To me their at their best since live at Leeds here, why Kennedy Jones was derided is beyond me, here he is drumming far better than latter period moon was
@Ronnie Dover: So YOU'RE the one who has my VHS! lol
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Everybody back when John rarely got a close up: I feel so bad for John I wish he gets the close ups that he deserved.
Everyone now that john has a close up: *silently talk about other bands and how hot Roger is*
Kenny Jones was only drummer to replace Moon. They were best buddies. Keith would be so happy.
PETE SMASHES IT
Pete looks like Nicolas Cage in this era.
WOW ...I didnt know Sabian Cymbals were out in 1982!
Is it just me or has the video quality improved from WGFA? Looks fantastic!
The Who at there very best.
Wasn't this the "Cashing In" tour?
Mike Harty seen them 25 times since and they Never disappoint 🎸
Cool
I REMEMBER EXACTLY THISTOUR [ THAT THE WHO HAD BEEN WRITTEN OFF BY PUNK BANDS [ HERES THEIR REPLY

Thunderfingers is playing with a pick?
Back when Entwhistle had great tone and skill. Later years was mostly flanged buzzy random noodling.
Poor guitar....Pete was most certainly a guitar beater!!!.....and the way Roger threw that poor mic around....wth....these fellas gave Rock an image....Kick ass Rock!!....sometimes they d even Roll......
Wonder how many RUSH fans are there?

Pete must be a good rugby player, I’d hate to run into him when he’s bouncing around like that
to me this is the who at their peak, great energy[ keyboars padding out the sound[ townshend sloimg effortlessly [ kenny fantastic, why he was dropped i dont know, far better than zak
Totally agree, Much better than Moon who didn’t know how to play at all.
@@corinaplacious5000 I know, Roger always complained about Kenny's playing, and that he was not up to Moon's level. I think the Who sounded better with Kenney Jones than with any other drummer.

Daltrey's outfit gayer than a daisy in May
THAT FUCKING ALEMBIC.... OOPH...
Le beuf et le kangourou
Kenney is the best drummer they ever had, to bad Roger didn’t like him.

Nope. Moon the loon was best. Not really a contest.
Actually after reading Roger’s book I found out why Kenney wasn’t the right drummer for the band. Kenney was an extraordinary drummer but didn’t have the adrenaline and creativity for The WHO.
you can tell they don't even enjoy doing this anymore. death can really mess a family up
Flint Stone

Can you ?
The sound mix is shocking. The guitar is so washed out, don't do them justice.
