And you can add your own SD card! But how do you format it? And does the formatting need to be done is any special way to not miss all the features (like recording via phone, etc.)? Need more info (and it's not in the included flyer. 😞

Hi Zak, any chance you can tell us how hard/easy it is to set the sleep timer, and once set can you easily reactivate it for a second timed play

How do I move music around once I load it onto the device? For instance... I've uploaded all of the songs but they are not in the order I prefer.

Hi Zak, great review just reading it now I already purchased the MP3 player a while ago. To your question yes I believe there is still a market for mp3 players. I haven't used mine for awhile but it kept the charge which I think is amazing. My question is I see that it actually lights up which i thought is a con when listening at night but in your video it show's the light stay's on. How can you make it stay on?

Did you figure out how the bookmark works? If you are listening to a long audio book, how do you mark the place so next time you start from the place you stopped?

First, this is THE BEST MP3 player for cost v. capacity in this range. By that, I mean there are a TON of players out there that use this exact chipset/OS and therefore the only difference is in the hardware. Even the 'glitches' are shared by most. Others have even more issues - for example the AGPTEK player has a glitch of only showing 24:00 time even when set otherwise. I can't claim to have tested them all, but I have done several and thoroughly researched the class. Even the Sandisk players, which are highly lauded and do have a different OS ultimately suffer from some of the same poor software choice as this, and for much more money.
    On to the complaining...
    1) This player has one aspect I HATE HATE HATE... that when it's time to scan through "all songs" or narrow a previous selection by "songs" or "titles"... the actual lists that present are FILE NAMES. Not only do the extensions (ex ".mp3") show using precious screen character space, but when your file names are formatted "artist - title.mp3" or "track num. - title.mp3" (the two most common formats out there for singles and album tracks) then your list isn't based on titles at all. Moreover, the order presented is disk order - which is common - but seems almost random compared to alphabetical though if you want the list sorted this player has an "order all" choice (not sure if it works) or you can use small, free, PC programs (ex "MP3DirSorter") to re-write the files to disk in a sorted order. Even then, this player presents me with "ABBA - Dancing Queen.mp3" near the top of the list, based on "A" not "D". There already IS an 'artist' scan option for that! in fact, my list begins with about 30 tracks of "01 - Baby Please.mp3", "01 - Shine.mp3", "01 - Welcome to the World.mp3"... as you can see... useless when you have 30 songs and the next 30 are "02 - xxxx", "02-yyyy". You have to scan the entire list of thousands of songs to find an album track unless you have them all memorized by track number - not!
    2) Second AWFUL issue... ONLY when Bluetooth is ON, whether connected/paired or not... if you play a song in any way that is not selected from a custom playlist (I mean a saved .m3u file not one of the three internal playlists "Playlist 1", "Playlist 2", etc) then subsequent to that, if you DO attempt to play a custom .m3u playlist, the playback is wrong; your playlist will come up as normal (that is, based on file names, yuck) but when you go to play the (for ex.) first track on your list - it will play the first track on your master song list instead of the first entry in your playlist. So, when you want to play from an m3u playlist, you must have either just played from an m3u playlist, OR do the following: 1st turn off the bluetooth, 2nd navigate to Playlists, start playback and quickly pause, 3rd turn on bluetooth and pair, 4th navigate back to a Playlist or to "Now Playing" and play or resume. If you stick to m3u lists you are fine, but as soon as you play a song in any other way, you will have to repeat if you want to get back to playlist listening. THE WEIRD THING is that this doesn't happen when using the speaker/audio out just BT. Another weird thing is that in BT on modes, your song artwork appears in various non-scaled sizes, but when BT is off, the pics are scaled to "full screen".
    3) The first time you engage audio, there is a 'fade in' from silence. Annoying on songs that begin right away with a loud flourish. Since you never really stop playback once you start (you only pause it) this only seems to happen for the first song in a listening session. I have started putting a "3 seconds of silence.mp3" track at the tops of all my m3u playlists. That way, I avoid the fade in AND give time to pause and turn on bluetooth as mentioned above.
    4) The center button, "M" for menu, and top right "OK" for playback and select, are in my humble (yet correct) opinion reversed from the correct placement! Use this device for a while then switch to any other made in the known universe and you will be a mess!
    5) Finally, on the icons screen, when a choice is selected, the highlight is so minimal, and made of a white outline, that in bright light conditions (e.g. outside) you cannot tell what has been highlighted. This could have been EASILY avoided by the designers. Why of why didn't they hire ME to build their interface!?
Overall the Grtdhx is solid - and again the best in it's class. If you can find the 64GB version it still has expansion slot and goes for $40 on amazon as of Dec 2020. If you look closely at the Oakcastle, Ruizu, AGPTEK, Vincture... all of them are based on the same exact 'OS'. Must be a chinese single-chip solution for this design that they all use. Still, makes me wish I had access to the firmware sourcefiles so I could fix this and make a TRULY awesome machine!

Ok, I bought this and love it so far, only thing I can’t figure out is how to shuffle music, instead of playing artists or songs in alphabetical order. 18 Blake Shelton songs in a row is a bit much lol.

Hello there. Does this mp3 player have a shuffle button on it. I'm totally blind, and it's hard to navigate menus on an mp3 player that requires you to access a menu button in order to go to the setting where you have to shuffle songs. The old school Sony Wlkmans from the 2010s had a shuffle button on them so I could press that in order to shuffle my songs. Also is this device touch screen? Feedback is much appreciated.

Hi, Zak. I enjoyed your review. You have a nice, calming voice.🙂 I just got the Grtdhx (yeah, good luck pronouncing it, right?😆) 128 GB model for $60. I was very confused because it said it was expandable for up to 128 GB with a micro SD card, but at the same time said that built-in storage was 128 GB.🤔 So I worried that I needed to get an SD card to use it. Um, maybe not?😆 As to your question, I think mp3 players are still very relevant. Not everyone wants to lug their phone around to listen to tunes, or use up their phone storage on music, so I think having a dedicated device to just play music makes sense. Technology has become such that devices are getting smaller and doing multiple things.. and sometimes I don't think that's such a good thing, but that's just me. Anyway, thanks for the review. I like your vibe, so you've got a sub!🙂 Have a great day!❤️
