These commenters saying “well it could be worse! Just look at what is like” are completely missing the point. Pushing for more consumer friendly practices in order to help grow the game is not a bad thing and should absolutely be done, regardless of whether your preferred megacorporation is more or less awful than somebody else’s

The crazy thing is that in literally every other game, it's "Well, it could be worse! Just look at Yugioh!" And they're usually right.
Which says a lot about not just how bad Yugioh is, but how bad Yugioh is in literally every conceivable way. It's practically a miracle this game is still lumbering along, especially outside Japan - purely on nostalgia and momentum. The game is dead. The head was cut off in early 2020, with the banlists, the new pull rates, the new staple cards and archetypes, the refusal to reprint cards, and it's running around like a chicken. The people who say "BuT mUh YcS aTtEnDaNcE!" are just pointing out how fast the chicken is running. Eventually, the chicken will fall over.

I remember how in older days, everyone complained about how Upper Deck managed the game; starting with the rarity changes, skipping entire structure decks and reprint sets, cards like Crush card virus being ridiculously expensive and hard to get, increasing set sizes with Ocg imports and Tcg exclusives...a lot of things. Then when Konami regained control of the TCG, everyone was happy and hoped that the game would improve....but many years passed and not only Konami kept doing the same as Upper deck, in many ways it got worse. So sad.

I believe the law in the USA that regulates gambling allows exceptions for products like trading cards because you always get something from the product. In traditional gambling there is an expectation that when you gamble money there is the potential that you get nothing in return. So no under legal definitions of gambling trading card games of all kinds do not count as gambling.

Konami is a total mystery to me. They could give us a rarity collection like the OCG gets, that is FILLED with staples and cool bonus rarities (such as Ash Blossom in Ultimate/Collector/Quarter Century), make it a REASONABLE price, and they would have profits out the absolute ASS. They'd make a killing beyond even their wildest dreams off that one set alone.
There are so many ways they could turn an even better profit without actively trying to kill their own market as they currently are. It's absolutely astounding.

Like the author of this video has said before, they could, but there is no reason to because there is no competition in the TCG market.
Konami has already abandoned the idea of getting new players into the game. I guess extorting the existing player base is enough to sustain their business model. One thing that I love about OCG yugioh compared to TCG yugioh… is how it’s treatment of newer players. Last year the OCG released a set called the utility set for $30-ish… they get a deck box, dice and has promo card of some of the most chased cards in yugioh at that time such as goddess, assesscode and whatnot… TCG would never do this and would force the newer players to dump incredible amounts of money into the game

    • @MilleniumEyes

Shit, I mean I wish we had something equivalent to pokemon ETBs. The last time they did something similar were those JOTL special edition boxes that came with those shitty transparent sleeves. What they did with MAMA was cool but its been 10 years since they gave us actual sleeves yet OCG has had Konami sleeves all this time. Another thing would be those 6 pack boxes that pokemoncenter sells. I dont plan on buying a pokemon BB because they go for over $100 and sometimes I dont want all the bulk from ETBs so those 6 pack boxes are a nice alternative. Konami doesnt have those. You have to spend $60-$80 on boosters to get packs from a set and buying loose packs is so sus because of the fear of them being throwaway packs where the retailer already pulled the money card or its a bundle of weighed packs. I wish Konami would give us more stuff but you either have to buy boosters, deal with shitty side sets, deckbuilder sets with worse pull rates than core sets or wait till the end of the year for the tins. Even the structure decks can be pretty hit or miss.
It's crazy how there are people who think it's okay for a hobby to be so expensive too. I saw on twitter some public figures saying it's just how a hobby is. I'd be inclined to agree BUT we can see how OCG is treated compared to TCG and thats why people are up in arms about it.. Why is one region given more access to relevant cards and merch than the other?

I finally had enough a few months ago and left yugioh. it sucked, but I wasn't getting what I wanted.
sure, wotc may only be _slightly_ better than konami, but when they sold those 60 fake magic the gathering cards for $1000 I made sure my printer was ready to run and have been proxying anything I didn't desperately want in paper.
just like the yugioh tcg, japan gets treated a LOT better than the west. I believe it's because there's a lot of competition for card games over there, like wotc's own duel masters still going strong over there, whereas yugioh, magic, and pokemon are the big three in the west and it's hard for any other game to get a footing. where I work they sell dragon ball tcg items, and I swear I'm the only person who has bought any, and I only did it out of curiosity, with my staff discount and a staff shopping week discount.
to summarise, it would be better if the game was more like the ocg, but due to lack of competition and the difficulty of a new game finding a niche it just won't happen anytime soon. it will be the doom of tcgs if they don't step it up

While i do think that changes need to be made on Konami's part, i dont think that everyone stopping theur habit of buying cards would receive the desired result. Konami hates communicating with thejr players and listening to their input (for reasons beyond us), so if yugioh stopped making them money, they would probably just stop making cards altogether and yugioh would be basically another dead TCG in the world. In some ways, there is nothing we can do to get konami to listen to us and make things healthier. They don't have much incentive to listen to us.

I was a long-time yugioh player. Started when the game came out. Even back then, it was ridiculous. Things like mechanicalchaser and gemini elf were running a 100+ even back then. Nowadays, konami just doesn't care about their players. You can even see that with their top-tier tournament prizing.
It's also hard because my friends and I played for years throughout high school and afterwards, I grew away from the competitive side due to the price tag, so I would do rogue decks. More fun that way, but the player base has grown so toxic that if your deck can't afford 4 months of rent, then why bother? They will just ridicule the hell out of you for it.
Game was fun in the beginning. Now it just seems like a chore.

My wife and i are Pokemon tcg live players but the app is really terrible right now. After learning how to play this game for hours on the internet we decided to download master duel. We spent 10,000 accumulated free gems, building a purrley and kashtira deck. We both got bad pulls mostly and decided to pay for gems as a support to the company. We were flabbergasted at the price for gems? $70.99 USD for less than 5000 gems?????! We must pay this much to take a gamble on cards we need? Why can’t we get crafting points if we are spending this much of our hard earned money? The learning curve of modern yugioh isn’t enough of a hassle? Long story short we deleted this game and never looked back. I hope the EU looks into this.

I get that the OCG cards are printed on a thicker (and better) stock than the TCG. I feel like the main reasoning is separation of the two as it would cannibalize the TCG sales as the OCG cards are generally cheaper. I still play the game, but it’s at the bare minimum casual. No banlist, just random bs go brrrrr causal level of jank. I’m evening considering to incorporate buying OCG cards of the “staples” so my friend and I can be “like the pros”

While i believe the consumers and (especially) the youtubers ought to speak up about the issue and act on it, imo, the fastest way to fix this, would be to have the vendors banding together to simply not purchase a select few sets. forcing konami to eat such a loss, alongside a well worded message from the fans about the absolute *chasm* of difference between tcg and ocg quality, would likely be the most effective way to get the message across.
i remember buying a japanese set of ETCO and pulling what their version of a starlight, and then pulling multiple other high rarity, but actually good cards from the set as well. the difference in set quality between the two sides of konami is absolutely staggering.

I wanted to get Fabled Raven and Pot of Duality for the deck (or Duality in general, it was a great card). Fabled Raven was less than 4 bucks each, only available in DT in Japan, but we got it as a secret rare a year before and was 40 apiece. Pot of Duality was a 120 secret rare for us, when it was a 5 dollar card for Japan. I remember thinking just how frustrating it was that even the more casual cards like Raven were inaccessible to a then-high schooler like myself, and made me consider focusing more on Magic. In hindsight, definitely should have gone that route, considering dual lands were 70 and below back then... but that's a different topic.

My late dad actually dealt with Konami directly when he worked for GamesTech, he found them... difficult to deal with and let's jus say it's an understatement to say that that was putting it charitably! I'm going to have to look into this Dueling Book proper, I had a quick gander and they allow custom cards? I jus so happen to have a Custom Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck for which I am particularly well known that is based on the Chinese Zodiac and uses the 12 Devas Digimon as a base and also uses proxies for which I have a couple of Deck Profiles up! I also have another one that I was working on before and the only deck I feared based on the 8 Legendary Dragons from Final Fantasy VI, plus another couple of fun ideas I've had floating around in my head, one based on RPG Job Classes and the other one, the Monsters are not Gemini Monsters, their Effect is that they are treated as Normal Monsters while on the Field, it's in the Hand and Graveyard where they get their Effects off, playing off of one another and other Normal Monsters!
On another more pressing note, I didn't notice the Attribute Printing on the Quarter Century Rare cards, I have all but the Dark Magician and two Obelisk (I am looking to trade) and I went and had a look and wow... On Blue-Eyes it looks like the letters "LIGHT" have been shrunk, Slifer and both Obelisk say "DIVINO" (is that Italian? I did GCSE French, so...), Red-Eyes has "OSCURITO", no idea... Ra is not very clear, it looks something like "GOTTLIC"? No idea! German, maybe? I'm English, so I apologise to any Italians or Germans out there reading this! I wouldn't mind but the other Red-Eyes, Dark Magician, Blue-Eyes and Gods are alright! Mind boggles... Made worse by the fact they're all flawless and yet say "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" as well... Well, as flawless as you can expect from Konami...

Dueling Book is amazing for custom cards. They have a built-in custom card creator and you can keep your collection private while you play test it, or make it public to share it with other players. All you have to do is know problem-solving card text to make the effects clear to other players and to avoid the ruling nightmares that are so frequent in the site as it is not an automated duel simulator (and don't get me started on the troll or broken cards made by kids).
Lastly, there's the issue of the card artwork, but I've heard AI has got you covered on that in case you're not artist (or are too cheap to get art commissions lol).
P.S: DIVINO is DIVINE in both Spanish and Italian. GOTTLICH is DIVINE in German. ESCURITO is DARK in Portuguese.

You bought all that, but we’re using the ban list to make those decks almost not meta relevant anymore.” Cause oh boy! - if I had bought SHS just to only be able to play with it for a week or so before it got nerfed *AFTER* they just let Tear run wild, I would have been so pissed.
Yes, I know SHS is still viable but it’s sus the way they let effectively pre-hit a deck before it even got a chance to do anything. If you’re going to pre-hit a deck, then keep people in the loop so they know *before* they buy the product.

Konami iis rather infamous for censoring cards in the tcg throughout all of its existence. Goofy censorship which much later is removed for one time only promotional "lost art" prints.
Sounds innocent and self aware enough until you realize they are still doing absurd censorship on cards to this day, for a card game that years now has been predominantly played been teens and adults. Absurd censors like removing a teeny tiny cleevage line from Kitt on the art for Tribe Drive, slightly lengthening the skirts on the Tear girls, and cover up the breasts on Alich of the Burning Abyss despite her beinng a TCG exclusive with art byba westert artist.
This is all relevant because well...konami has done lost arts for more recent cards. Nurse Dragon Maid got a lost art print for one of the smallest and silliest censors in the game's history (removing two buttonss on her outfit that just happenedd to be placed bear her nipples) a year after the card's original printing. A one time only promotional lost art print, a single year after the card was released with an unoticable censor.

On the topic of power creep that you mention around 12:00 in - Zoodiac is a great example. Even if they got 3 Rat, 3 Drident and 3 Barrage tomorrow, they've been power crept out of the meta to such a degree just by cards that were manufactured in order to deal with bigger problems. Nibiru, Evenly Matched, Imperm, all of these cards were made to deal with decks even stronger than Zoodiac, and we're at a point where even landing a full Zoodiac combo (in a pure Zoodiac build of course) turn 1 means almost nothing because the opponent can Nib and destroy your board instantly for free and leave you with a hugely weak token (since all the Zoodiac XYZ cards have ? stats). Evenly Matched is also game-winning on its own since Zoo is so slow that they have no way to recover to play defense without backrow support or support from a splashed archetype. Then you have other crazy stuff that took off more and more as time went on, like Sphere Mode and Lava Golem, Giant Hand, etc. Zoodiac would get dumpstered by most meta deck's side deck because today's typical side deck is assembled with the intent and ability to punish even better decks than Zoo, even at max power. Which is a crazy concept considering what an immense powerhouse Zoodiac was in its prime.

Not true... zoo would instantly be tier 1 easily.

    • @Quasartist
      @Quasartist 11 месяцев назад

@@lordbumus6087 I simply disagree. Nib would become a side deck staple overnight and deal with it easily. Evenly Matched would destroy them. 1 negate is not enough to combat any board on turn 2 or 3 so its either go first or lose, and even then half their combo can be Ash'd. X-Saber Invoker loses to Ash (the most common card in the game, factually) meanwhile Ash also beats every avenue to reach Ratpier. Every single reasonable deck in the current landscape of Yugioh is pre-equipped to deal with the tools that Zoodiac brings to the table + tools to deal with decks that are inherently stronger. Searching ANY beast-warrior is strong for Broadbull but the rest of the deck achieves nothing against full power Kashtira for example, which was the top of the meta when I left that original comment. I wholeheartedly believe that Zoodiac would be splashed in as an engine like Adventure at best to help further a different deck's end board. Zoodiac as a standalone strategy would crumble because 1 negate is not enough to pull through. Zoodiac was good because it was so fast, but the game has evolved to such a degree that Zoodiac doesn't bring anything unique to the table anymore other than the 1-card Xyz plays, which still rely on a lot of searching to accomplish generally. What would full power Zoodiac do vs a full power Ishizu Tearlament who can make their full board during your draw phase? Absolutely nothing. Removing the ban list from this hypothetical situation, Zoodiac has been power crept and there's no getting around it. As an engine its great because you get a lot of mileage off any of the Zoo main deck monsters, but standalone they are just not as good as they once were.

It frustrates me when I see an interesting card in the Ocg that has simply never been printed in the TCG and I know a lot of those cars are either so new that they haven’t had a chance to do them in the TCG or so old that they’re not worth printing to some but dang it, Japan has something that we don’t and I don’t care of that normal monster release near the beginning of the game isn’t competitively viable . I still want to have it.

I got back into yugioh in 2021, having played the early parts of the XYZ era I wanted to play a slower paced control kinda deck. I purchased a zoodiac core fairly cheaply and the main line up of handtraps and traps + 1 zeus (rest proxied). All for I think 160-220 USD.
Anyway, out of thin air, random drident ban. Supposedly to nerf tri-brigade but I it didnt really at all. Very much a prime example of banning a card just cuz they couldnt make money off zoos anymore due to reprints + old prints, I believe the deck had done well in a tournament just a month before banlist. Deck was just rogue, nothing more nothing less.
Started playing older formats shortly after.

Well at least we know who isn't on Konami's Christmas card list...😅. Fantastic video exposing the truth, very eye opening. Don't expect Konami sponsorship anytime soon though!

This video is even more relevant today. Honestly I’m tired of the cycle and moved on.

Honestly, though Konami's practices are very bad, the TCG only have themselves to blame. After the lawsuits with Upperdeck and 4K Media, YGO has been very reluctant to give TCG consumers/viewers the best they have to offer outside the Asian market. Almost like they are saying ”Since you Americans want to be greedy, you're gonna have to pay more for our stuff.”
So, yes, racism plays a role in this...

TCG regions has lesser direct competition for Yugioh compared to OCG regions. Saying it's racism is outright petty.
