I wouldnt be surprised if Konami is avoiding importing Rush Duel if only for the fact that its more heavily marketed towards children, meaning it would open them up to some kinda class action lawsuit in relation to child gambling.
Its also frustrating because OCG regions have stricker gambling laws preventing the insane stuff we get in the TCG, while also having communities that are SIGNIFICANTLY less willing to let Konami's behavior slide. I mean i regularly encounter people that get UPSET when a card powerful card gets printed and its NOT exclusively Secret/Ultra Rare only like what, if anything we should get what the OCG does and have every card multiple rarities of the standard 5 (Normal Rare Super Ultra Secret), hell we dont even get stuff like Parallel Normal Rare variants of normal cards its awful how much variety we lose.
Seriously i have never had someone give a good reason why we SHOULDNT get every card in a pack always available at Normal rarity at the same rate, increased rarities should exclusively be for collector value, NOT for making the game less accessible in the second hand market to trick people into buying more packs.

Perhaps there's something in regards to pull rates. From what I understand, OCG has bulk rarity for just about everything for budget players and then higher rarity for collectors or rarity hunters. So cards seem to be generally more affordable for players. TCG still uses the archaic tradition of doing basically only one specific rarity for every card and the occasional higher rarity for certain Super Rare cards.

Rush duels is shit anyhow dont want that trash.

    • @EliteElk221
      @EliteElk221 3 месяца назад

You're on the right track but for the wrong things. Rush duels just isn't as popular as a side format in the states, and with it being a side format as is, Konami can afford to keep it restricted to their home region of Japan, which is also their most profitable region (YGO is the second most popular card game in Japan, behind only Pokemon.) As for rush duels being advertised towards children and class action lawsuits... that will never happen in America. Japans laws prevent the gambling aspect sure (just see rarity collection 1, it's an exact copy of the OCG printings and compare it to rarity collection 2, TCG exclusive) but American (and most western countries) laws do NOT protect consumers from this particular practice. It's how JRPG's and modern western game studios get away with the insanely predatory microtransactions we have in video games, and why all card games in the west are so expensive, from baseball cards, to YGO. Then there is the American "Nerd culture" attitude on items like this, thanks to millennial parent and the scam of 90's comics, everyone is always thinking to themselves "it's an investment, I can sell this thing for thousands of dollars if I have too!" only to find out that it's worth literally nothing because its paper and cardboard and no one will spend that kind of money on anything like that, especially pre-owned pieces. The secondary market gets away with outrageous prices too because we buy singles from there in order to compete for crap prizing. I personally think the secondary market is going to collapse soon just because people will stop buying cards all together at this rate. Sadly Konami doesn't really care what their non-Japanese customers think, and this is true of ALL of their properties, not just YGO. The shareholders might care but ultimately with it's primary and most consistently profitable market being Japan, we will never have it like it is in the OCG. Konami would rather let it die than bow down to us westerners. Our attitudes of superiority, and of being owed everything, combined with out lack of impulse control (specifically in finances) and a poor economy combined with a strong Japanese market un-reliant on the west and very likely racist company leads means that YGO will likely die if we outright boycott. Then it will be just as niche as it was in the 90's, just with timewizard formats because we wouldn't be getting new cards.

For years Konami TCG has spit on the player base with lies (remember the "we don't short print" stuff?) and outright predatory practices, while reducing their products' quality as a whole. As individuals, we can just do so much. But if we can rally together behind a group of creators with a wider reach, we can really organize and consolidate demands and actions. The Wild Survivors card list is a big reason to do something. Putting 7 out of the 10 URs of the set as Vanquish Soul cards when that deck only was supposed to be a Tier 2 at most deck is disgusting and blatant price fixing. All other deck builder packs before hand (or at least the ones I can remember) have the UR ratios at 3:3:4 per deck theme included in the pack. This ratio is 1:2:7 which is already bad, but it gets worse when you look at OCG deck lists of Vanquish Soul and see that on average 17 copies of the cards that are UR in TCG are ran. This time in YGO legit is making me want to quit the game because as you pointed out, Konami does not care in the slightest about the consumer base unless they start not buying the product, which will take an act of some deity in order to happen. I feel sorry for people who wanted Vanquish Soul cards because now they're probably going to have to shell out several hundred dollars for a deck that's not even the 3rd best deck in the format.

Well here's the video I was waiting for. I didn't think I would see anything new, and I was pleasantly surprised. Your praise of proxying cards was an initial shock for me, but giving it enough thought, it's brilliant. If a bunch of people start proxying in a certain area, the stores will buy less product to keep up with demand and rely on selling older singles online. This directly lowers the price of new staple cards and sealed product (because less people care about the newer cards) and this now gives an edge to other companies sanctioning events. They can now allow proxies which capitalizes on a sector of the market Konami is neglecting. All of this would lead to Konami losing out on a HUGE market that initially they could push around but have now lost due to competition: budget players. Budget players will stop supporting stores that don't allow proxies (The big stores that Konami relies more on for their product sales) and they will stop attending larger events run by Konami because they now have the option to play competitively in a format that they don't have to sell their soul to buy a $600+ deck to participate in.

I would really like to hear your opinion on other groups hosting their own tournaments, such as old ARG and PPG tournaments, and the banlists they made for their tournaments. People seem to dislike these tournaments because they could "theoretically" be used to manipulate prices with their own banlists, but I always thought they were a necessary part of forcing change in the game because Konami blatantly does the exact same thing themselves. If a bunch of people stop playing Konami's events and buying THSF in 2015 when Konami is short printing the Nekroz monsters to hell because ARG is hitting Nekroz hard on their lists and hosting tournaments, then Konami is going to be hesitant to make moves as disgusting as that in the future out of fear of losing their customers.

Konami should take their printing policies from Cardfight. If you see a card printed in Japan, and see its rarity, you know this will be the rarity it comes to in English. No swapping good, lower rarity cards to secret (Pot of Duality was a super at first in the OCG, for 5 bucks!), I don't know why Konami hates its foreign markets so much, but it's frankly annoying. If only MD would allow a match feature to discourage degenerate strategies like Crooked Cook in defense mode, then it would be perfect!

As someone who loves the game, I only buy the structure decks from time to time, as at least there is some cheap reprints that can go of for more expensive over time. Boosters, tins and anything that is random is too overpriced and short printed to the point that you are really saving yourself so much money by buying singles. It's almost the same as winning the lottery by buying hundreds of scratch tickets, just better to not do it at all and spend your money on something that you know is guaranteed. Proxys and fake cards are basically the cheapest way to play any card game and also is fun to create the cards yourself, because you get whatever you want with little effort and learn some useful skills in the process of the making. I am using pokemon and mtg cards that I don't need to print cards from other games or to create my own, once you get the correct measurements it works like a charm and actually looks neat

Crazy to me how low Konami has gotten, despite the radical shift in rarity they went through. I remember way back in the day when getting an ultra rare was like 1 in 64 packs or something else crazy like that. Now every box is guaranteed at least two and a secret usually, or something like that, I forget the math. But it's nuts how they went from being cheaper despite being a lot more scarce, to becoming waaaay more accessible but costing a fortune.

Your videos made me never want to buy booster packs anymore. The OCG practise sounds much better not only because of the Secret Rares being upgrade rares rather than a set in stone rarity.
When I heard that in the west Konami actively cheats on us by upranking raritys for cards which results in 500+ $ deck prices (because a playset of a fucking common stample in the OCG costs 3 times 80$ here and you need multiple cards like these LOL) I really felt shitted on. Everyone should do them a favor and do the same.
And I am still waiting for a banlist that actively tries to pull the game together rather than doing damage control and thinking how to gain the most money gain out of it. A banlist isn't worth little if all it does is weakening the current meta to make room for an even less balanced meta.
I do think the Proxy method might be the best way to keep the game alive but also show the biggest problem. If you can't afford cards and instead print the ridiculos overprized stuff you can set a sign. Otherwise the virtual simulators are the go to method for playing. I'm into Edo Pro and its former programs since middle school and even playing regularly custom cards format with friends there (which is even easier to do on Dueling Book) so yeah you can have a wonderful time playing yugioh while spending only your electric bills.

We don’t necessarily have to buy new boosters but instead convince shops to open packs and sell singles instead of just boosters & packs, the idea is to give Konami less money as possible while making the game accessible to players also allowing LGS to set the prices for singles since they get bulk for dirt cheap. We should also ignore most of the OCG rulings in hopes to turn the tides in favor for casuals and competitive players alike. I’m just brainstorming here so any constructive criticism is appreciated 😅

An LCG like that makes it practical to actually have every card and play every deck. (And of course Netrunner's fanmade continuation is proxy-friendly.) Most of the LCGs are dead (with most of the surviving ones being mere co-op games), but I would rather play a dead game with my friends at my house, if it really has the best gameplay and an interesting meta, than play a bad and predatory game (like Magic) that has millions of players.

I'm honestly a little sad that you didn't mention YGO Omega as another 3rd party option for playing yugioh online, as it's honestly the most quality online ygo experience I've played so far. That aside, great video as always 👍
