THIS! This right here is one of the reasons WHY I appreciate you and hold you in the highest esteem! You are a 'conservator of the past'... Your passion is palpable and your enthusiasm is warranted! Dear Grandma 'R' is surely beaming that this beautiful item found its way to you insuring that this stunning 'Salver' will continue to be loved and have a 'home' with perhaps one of us... Incredible find, Scott, incredible!... xoxo
I just found an S & H Green stamp inside of a 70s chalet music box I listed in my Etsy shop. Not an antique but an exciting find for this 70s girl. It brought back memories for sure! Congrats on your amazing find!
My house was built in 1841. Im trying to furnish it with period pieces. Love the cake salve! I was addicted to buying antique clocks a few years back. I bought a mantle clock from an online auction that had a letter inside written by the previous owner from the 1800s. It listed the previous owners before them. It was by far a delight to see the history kept intact inside the old beauty. Btw, the wooden works still keeps time.❤
@oldcuriosityshop265 It's amazing that the handmade wooden gears , some with replaced teeth, are working and keeps time. It's the fascination that got me hooked and I couldn't stop collecting. 😊
That is a beautiful cake stand. I'm sure there were some wonderful and delicious cakes, made by Grandma and proudly placed on that stand by her! Sweet! 🎂🥮
Thank you for putting another smile on my face, Scott. Lord knows I don't need to purchase anything from you, but I'll be sure to continue to view your vids, enjoy them and give 'em a thumbs up. A surprising bit of history came along with that well-loved antique cake plate. Thanks for being the curious character that you are. Ahh .... Enjoy your iced tea on your breezy 1920s porch. : )
I'm so happy that you were chosen, to find this very special time capsule! Such a dear meaningful little fern and blossom 🌿 Such care went into it..and to find it perfectly preserved 💝
How fantastic Scott! I believe you were the perfect person to find this! I know you will take such good care of it and you understand and can appreciate the nostalgic and history you hold in your hands. ❤️🙏🥂
i just saw a post of yours the was posted 5 mos ago (per youtube) where you hung dining room curtains. Very nice. I was wondering if you considered chair rails in the dining area. Molding below, wall paper on top. I love the idea. You can use my place to practice if you like.. now i am watching you share all the curtains and materials for window treatments from a year ago. Gorgeous!!!! anyway I just found you a couple of weeks ago. I am catching up. So about the cake stand today. I am not sure I understand why you removed the note and dried flowers from the base. Help. It looked like it disintegrated. How is it now?
My guess is that Granny cut a piece of her wedding flower arrangement ( or maybe a corsage) and stuck it to the under side of that cork to save it. The cake stand might have been a wedding or anniversary gift. Great vid!
@CarlosGonzalez-hu3hr While that summation is sentimental and sweet I honestly believe that the fabric floral bits are perhaps original to the cake 'salver' being that it was 'crafted' with the hollow stem and that the florals are a bit too 'generic/plain' to be from an actual 'wedding/corsage'... Essentially, the era from which this piece comes from this type of simple embellishment is quite common...
I hope everything's okay with you. I haven't seen you own your channel since you had that live sale last with your friends. And you said you were having trouble with your allergi.Hope you're o k send a new love from georgia
That is an amazing cake plate. Unfortunately have never found a treasure like that, Thank you for Sharing. Please Stay Safe Happy and Healthy Have A Wonderful Day
What a wonderful find!! Thank you for all the interesting information. The pattern on the top of the cake stand reminds me of the old TV test patterns.
Finding those hidden gems inside an antique purchase is always a nice bonus! I found some ephemera inside a late 1930's Philco radio, but it wasn't anything important -- just some junk that found its way inside there. It certainly wasn't as eye-catching as finding that mini floral arrangement inside the salver. Grandma Rainey is smiling down on you from the heavens above!
Well!!! What an amazing story!!! Wonderful reenactment of a breathtaking find!!! That is a story I will not forget and tell often!!! Thank u Scott!!! U gave my heart some beautiful joy!!! I saw Salem!!! 💞💞🙃💞💞
Wonderful. After your little tease video today I googled "what could be inside an Adam's glass cake stand" Collectors Weekly describes just what you found. :)) (I've also been known to read the endings of books half way through).
Oh fantastic.....I must see if I can locate just what you were reading! I'd LOVE to know if the flower insert was placed there in the factory in the 1880's!
@@oldcuriosityshop265 "Another majestic cake stand by Adams and Company. These were often offered with a dried floral arrangement inserted in the hollow stem; the paper on this insert noted the salver size and patent dates of Nov 11, 1881 and July 25, 1882." From 8 years ago
What's really wild, is that at 6:35, Grandma Rainey herself walked past your car! You can see her walk past, through the driver's side window. She's probably going into the thrift store, looking for her dang cakeplate!😮😂
WOWWWW! This is the coolest find ever!!! I’m about to become a grandma for the first time in a little over a month and everyone already knows I’m gonna be a “Pringles grandma”! 😂
What a thrill. It may even keep me awake now with the thrill of the hunt …or I’ll be dreaming of chasing sparkling glass treasures. It really is an exquisite cake plate. Someone special needs to adopt it. ♥️
In an old 1940s cookbook I found a piece of paper w recipes for feeding calves and goats! In another one (same era) I found several clippings from the newspaper of dress patterns. They were still putting those in the paper in the 60s and 70s! Thanks Scot for all your vids!😊
Boy, that’ll get your heart a fluttering 🥰! At first I thought perhaps an old secret recipe for a favorite family cake 🎂…but oh, this is even more delicious! Love the peek into history & what it tells us about the everyday lives of folks. A lovely find Scott & happy it fell into your hands. It’s great fun being a detective isn’t it 🥰?!
Oh my word, Scott!!! What a fabulous find 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. It’s amazing to me how these things survive all these years. So happy you’re the one who found it ☺️. Enjoy the rest of your evening. 🕊️😉
That is a fabulous find. Loved the personal note added to it. Pity it ended up in a thrift shop and didn't stay in the family. I guess that's another story !
The flowers look like gardenias, so I’m thinking it was meant to decorate the salver’s stem for a wedding - gardenias have been popular wedding flowers for generations. Maybe the purchaser had a choice of various stem stuffers in different colors/flowers - just a thought.
An amazing find, and I'm so happy to see that you'll be making some good money on this in your eBay store. The cork insert with fabric flowers puts this piece in a class of its own. I doubt any others have survived with that intact. I do want an eapg cake salver, and I'll find one, but this one will always linger in my memory.
We called my great grandmother Grandma and my grandmother was Granny. Grandma was her mother-in-law and they were not friends. I cringe to this day when my adult kids who never met either mistake their names because I know my Granny would be deeply insulted. I was excited to find an old address hidden in a mid century vase I was cleaning today, but that now seems a rather dull find after this. The address popped out as I was rinsing it for the second time and I thought it was a bug at first since many old vases end up bug coffins if they sit long enough.
Scott why did you tear the price tag off ? We all know this is how you make a living but we would like to know when you found these treasures and what you paid for them.😀😀😀
Thats not that unusual. I have a green glass kerosene lamp with a clear glass top. It also has a clear pedestal base with pink flowers in that base. No date.

What a wonderful idea to put a little decoration in there,it could have been from their wedding cake ,so wonderful to see thank you.👍😀
I am so happy you are finding/selling more old cake stands. There are lots of cake stand collectors out there!
I can't believe that you are not keeping that. It's pretty amazing awesome!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
That is a fabulous find. Loved the personal note added to it. Pity it ended up in a thrift shop and didn't stay in the family. I guess that's another story !

This is fabulous 😍 and the response on ebay is proof 👏
I knew there would be flowers 💐😊 incredible still in in there

Oh my word 😮 SCORE!
How about RILEY
that is amazing!! a bonbonniere?
Did you move scott??? Is their a tour??
