But also he challenges us to be real - most people will understand ‘all the fears, anxieties are bottled up inside’ but few people will admit to it and even fewer want it served up in a pop song, however catchy.
Beyond the green door. What a cool artist and producer this Cope. Good politics he has. Well done! I hope he is well and looking for musical collaborators. He reminds me of Bill Nelson. The Teardrop Explodes was pivotal for me as was My Nation Underground even though Cope was stressed over it.
Good call, Quit Dreaming and Get On the Beam comes to mind. There’s also lots of Love in this tune - the Arthur Lee version - with the horns, changes in tempo and skippity beat. The Dr Who theme tune seems to be buried in there somewhere, as well as some Petula Clark Carnaby St vibe. The pastoral interludes sound like Vaughan Williams, again very English and calls back to The Beatles and early Pink Floyd
My Nation Underground was panned by the critics but it has a great deal of enjoyable music, and should be seen now as a pivotal step towards his Peggy Suicide era.
Only 238 views?! I can see why Julian Cope was less than happy with the end result of this video - it's basically just David Bailey tinkering around at making a music video like someone on a BTEC Film Studies course. It's fascinating to be able to watch it, though. A real piece of Cope history. Thanks for uploading.
I usually skip this song when listening to the album, as it sounds a bit out of place with the other songs. Strangely though, the video adds something subliminally pleasing to the song...perhaps it's the colours, sunlight, or Julian's photogenic face, not to mention the utterly beautiful woman in it!
@@bonacontention1619 I don’t know, doesn’t seem to be her - OTOH the first I’d seen of her was on the cover pic to 20 Mothers album a decade later, so I may be wrong.
...the reason Julian cope is not more popular than he is is because its difficult to believe just how good his music is...

I seem to remember this video being very controversial when it came out, though I can't remember (or see) why. Saint Julian's start as a solo artist!
This vid was much edited and apparently the original vid was too bloody? This version was still banned because of the runaway pram scene I believe.
@@tonymack66 This has recently been uploaded in HD. It's on my 1983 music videos playlist.
Battleship Potemkin. 😂

Isn't that Dorian, Mrs. Cope?

This is a great Track. One of my favourites on the album
With the right make up he could have looked just like Syd Barrett.
