    There's nothing wrong with using an octagon gate but at the same time most underestimate/don't understand the purpose of the square gate.
    It's understandable though that American arcade stick owners are geared towards the octa gate since your 90's parts were like that.
    And an "8way guide" sound smarter than a "4way guide" but a square gate is not a 4way gate.
    All Japanese sticks are designed to be controlled with precise muscle memory (American sticks with brute force :) and the gate is there only to prevent it from moving far beyond the switch activation point. So a square gate is just a gate to prevent excess movement. An octagon gate is a restrictor gate because it blocks the 4 corners what would be useful if they were free like on a square. On a square after you are pressing right for example you can just tap down quickly without any effort or restriction to get the down forward direction. On an octa gate you have to slide down and back to get DF. And because Japanese sticks require accuracy and control moving the stick in a circle/quarter circle is easy and fast and you have the added bonus to use the 4 corners too.
    Again there's no wrong choise because it's all preference but now you know why 99% of Japanese arcade sticks have come with a square gate as standard or many times as the only choise for the last 42 years.

      Yeah I definitely see ypur point there specially with the foing back thing. I guess it's just that the "feedback" (if ypu will) of the octo is hardwired for me

      @@aguinaldoferrer6491 In the last 6 months i have actually used the Seimitsu Nobi Pro joystick that has a hybrid octagon/square gate and i really like it for Tekken. It's somewhere between a square and an octagon.
      Still for general gaming and shmups especially i like a square gate.

    I was literally about to give up and do some janky mess to force the sanwa gate into my stick. For some reason this kowal gate hadn't really shown up on my searches. Thanks a ton for the video!

    That's what all of the Hori Hayabusa arcade stick controllers should have had installed into them in the first place. Square gates suck for fighting games and beat'em ups.

      Agreed, I don't get how the square became standard.

  • @albertideo
    @albertideo 3 года назад +1

    Question:
    Why did you replace the part? Is the standard/stock one isn't good for the street fighter?
    What's the difference?

    • @persyst
      @persyst  3 года назад +2

      Hi, the stock 4-way gate only allows you to physically engage the 4 corners of the joystick motion (up-left, up- right, down-right, down-left), but the 8-way gate allows you to physically engage all 8 positions (all positions of the 4-way plus up, right, down, left). I personally prefer the physical feedback of having the joystick engage all 8 positions instead of floating through the up, right, down, left positions, but other people might not care about that or feel the opposite way about it, so I can’t say the 8-way is necessarily better.
      Regarding Street Fighter, I’d say if you’re a hardcore player, you might possibly find a preference/advantage for the 4-way stock on charge characters like Guile and prefer the 8-way for circular special characters like Ryu, but I’m just a casual player, so not really looking to swap out the plate every time depending on character.

      I think it comes with the 4-way square, you’d have to upgrade it like in this video ruclips.net/video/VGb-trXnWLc/видео.html

    Hi i just got a ps5. Im thinking about getting a victrix pro fs. Should i.

    • @persyst
      @persyst  3 года назад

      Sorry I haven’t used the Victrix, but it looks like a pretty sweet choice just from reading up on it on Amazon. For what it’s worth, when I chose the Hori Pro N, since I’m just a casual fight gamer who grew up on Street Fighter 2, I was just looking for a midrange, solid feel fight stick with a medium size footprint for my palms and a good weight for table stability, that felt like I could have it for a many years for the PS4 I picked up last summer, so I had tested out the Mayflash 500 Elite, and Hori Pro 4 Kai and the Qanba Obsidian playing on Street Fighter 5 on the PS4, and the Hori Pro N (in this video) is the one I felt had all the elements I was looking for, plus I liked the feel of 8 button ‘N’ (Noir style) layout and that the rest of the controller buttons are easily accessed from the top face rather than hidden away on the side.
