I urge everyone who liked the 9:14-> song ("Underneath The Stars") to encourage Jacob to do a full version with Colin Johnson. I hope you will join me on this.
My two favorite moments: 1) Judith Owen 7:28 the way Jacob sets up the ii-V that goes to IV at the absolute last possible moment between the first "send me a line" and the second. That descent into the ii. The way it just plops and feels both abrupt and also perfectly prepared. Stunning. 2) Colin Johnson 9:25 the way Jacob ends this phrase on the gentlest, daintiest passing chord. That chromatic motion from the bass on "leave you" how it points you SO HARD into "before." There are chunks of this video where I love the whole damn clip more, but specifically the harmony that's going on in these two parts makes me come back again and again and again just in awe of how rad it is.
I've forgotten to write the title of the track: Long Bashels, here are the credits and personnel www.discogs.com/it/Jim-Beard-Song-Of-The-Sun/release/4831506
This is one of the most beautiful thing in ever heard. Music is supposed to be the universe language, but there is apparently difference in cultural musical preference.
9:14 is my absolute favorite! It made me cry. It reminds me of one of those beautiful Randy Newman songs like for a Pixar movie with beautiful "haunting melancholic chords" - like "When She Loved Me." I SO much wish that this could be made into a longer version by Jacob in this exact style. Anyone with me on this "beggin'" Jacob for this? :-)
Not only is this impressive for what Jacob can do, but there is some serious talent from the people sending these messages! Seriously, everyone, this is incredible! Keep this up for as long as you can, this is amazing.
@@kra844 "Sounding like shit" is definitely too harsh because his singing is incredible but that's just a bit too much oversinging imo. Still mindblowing
No appropriate words to mind to explain how amazing his gift is. "The Way You Look Tonight" took me completely out and then the very next song sealed my tomb....dead
OMG! Why didn't anyone tell me about this before when I needed it most? We've all been wondering what's going to happen with the music business and Jacob is already 20 km down the road. This stuff makes me alternately cry and curse. What a talent and relief. Bless you, and keep up the the great work #1HarmU
OK, So I started to read the comments as soon as the video started, a lot of them were bigging up the Colin Johnson 9:14 . I waited patiently for 9:14 and oh boy was it worth waiting for, it sent chills down my spine. Can someone explain what happened, what is it about those notes that create that response, Im not the only one who felt it am I?
If I had to guess, this one was a little bit of simplicity among the extreme reharms, and that makes it more impactful probably. Its chord progression helps it too
Just intonation. Jacob is obsessed (as he should be since it's fucking awesome) with a method of tuning chords (especially triads) based on the hormonic series of certain notes instead of just traditional equal temperament intervals. It's essentially more in tune chords that are just so awesome. Google will probably explain it better than me if you want to know more.
Basically he tunes chords so that the frequencies of the notes have simpler ratios. Notes with simple radios sound good to our ears (an octave is 1:2, a fifth is 2:3, etc.) He tunes major chords with a ratio of 4:5:6, so to our ears they sound very nice. Plus that song is just beautiful lol
What people said about the tuning is correct, but also when Colin sings "and there beneath the stars ill leave you" Jacob uses minor IV (minor plagal cadence) to create a bittersweet feeling. its the "classic Christmas chord" that everyone talks about. on the word "you" the chord is spelled as B7/C , the notes A and C in that chord are borrowed from the minor IV.
That because that has the most chord changes, but most of the chord changes are not chromatic or discordant, which is what jacob tends to do most of the time, is to put like 10 dissonant chords in 10 seconds of sound
This compilation truly warms my heart. In addition to being a brilliant way to garner support for your project(s), the #iHarmU campaign has been a wonderful opportunity for us fans to collaborate in a small way with your musical genius. Thanks, Jacob, for giving us the chance to jam with you while your star is still on the rise! You are the MAN! Blessings always, Aaron ( Me•chum )
I totally agree, Eric! It made me freakin' cry. I'm trying to get people together to ask Jacob if he'll please consider making a longer version of this in the same style.
For 99.9% of us it’s 5% talent and 95% hard work in music. For people like Jacob, it’s 100% talent and then a lot of hard work. The hard work plays a part of course, but the sheer, undeniable talent is the true, single catalyst for their success.
Anyone think mahabongo is an original improvisation from that guy, it could have been a serious and popular bossa nova song, he seems like a well listened musician.
You are tremendously talented, gifted and absolutely skilled. Like David in the bible he was skilled.... God Has Really Blessed you with an Awesome gift.
What Jacob does on the bass is just nasty! ;-) Most of the preceding videos had been heavily vocals-oriented, so I was delightfully surprised to see that he pulled out several instruments to make it nice and groovy. Also love what he does on the keys in the video’s outro!

Oh my god yesss I had the exact same thought about the passing chord in the Colin Johnson one, it's so subtle but such a nice bit of colour
You are, easily, one of the most talented musicians alive.
