I had 2 horses with EMS and had to constantly keep boarding facilities from overfeeding them. Their horses were definitely obese and they would sneak my horse sugary forage. There are many " horse people " who will ignore vet recommendations. Those of us who try to do what is right are undermined and ostracized. The passive aggression my horses experienced was abuse, yet protecting them was close to impossible. Glad this video addresses the facts and showed what is the correct approach. Thank you!
people think its ok to buy a horse and just stick it in a field i had my own years ago and its a huge commitment world horse welfare are fantastic at bringing on horses from difficult starts and lot of them go on to great things Horses suffer in silence they don't cry out for help its just awful so many horses are neglected so organizations like these are a horses life line
He'd probably do best gelded but I could definitely see why they'd wait until he's lost all that extra weight. It would have been slower to come off after gelding.
I've been wondering that too. Maybe someone felt guilty for not caring for them adequately and fed them too much (pouring feed into a trough is quick) in compensation, while offering them too little room for moving?
The idea to let horses carry a weight of 10-15% of their body weight. So for a 65kg rider (plus tack), your horse should have 500kg. These horses should weigh about 300-400kg, so yeah, a 65kg rider would be too heavy (you always have to add weight for the saddle, clothes and so on). For short distances and if they are well trained, you might put on a heavier rider occasionally.
Well, if a horse can lose 100 kg and still his ribs don't show he was certainly overweight before. Besides, these people are experts and are surely capable of determining whether the weight of a horse is normal. They can also touch the horse to see whether the bulk is muscle or fat. In contrary to other horse owners these people are not interested in "gorgeous" horses, their only interest is keeping the horses healthy, so they don't easily fall for crazes like the one where thin horses are called "athletic".
It is not about ribs, you look at the neck. If there is a fat belt (and you can see it here), the horse is still overweight. Always remember: Horses often have to carry a rider or pulling a carriage. So you have to add some more weight onto theirs. If you want them to grow old with healthy joints, you should have them at their average weight or lower, not at their maximum weight.
It’s amusing how people take so seriously the problem of overweight animals while not doing anything about the excess pounds they themselves are carrying,
Finally! Someone who recognized that they needed help and contacted this organization. I'm really glad they did that. For the horses sake.

I really love this kind of videos where you see the process of how the horses become better, healthier, and happier!
Never Blame the horse, such a good job you did❤👊
Beautiful horses. Thank you for helping all the horses that you can.
Is that a UK thing to say 'K.G.s' for kilograms? I'm Canadian and we only ever say kilos, so it sounds so odd to me!
Super results from everyone! Congratulations for all the hard work and effort you put in - you have given these ponies their lives back!
Great job! 😘
Many greetings from Germany!
What a job to take on minimally handled stallions? Were they all stallions? I am so glad they were rehomed.
Good work
Thank you 🙏❣️

what happened to the other stallion in the other feild?
GORGEOUS!
I really like Bombay, but he's still pushy and too much in your space. Great job on all of them though, such transformations!

Horses will eat themselves to death. Their food intake must be limited and watched.
They are almost like feral horses or mustangs.
Happy outcome. Lucky ponies.
Who can I rescue house
✋👍👍👍💪🐴🔥❤️❤️❤️
There is no grass here that's going to put that much weight on a horse.... it just amazes me.
Our horses are starving if we find them in a pasture.
I've been wondering that too. Maybe someone felt guilty for not caring for them adequately and fed them too much (pouring feed into a trough is quick) in compensation, while offering them too little room for moving?
Ridiculous to say that a horse of that heavy build should not carry a 65kg rider. Are you for real?

@@blauespony1013 that's actually 20% of the horses weight as the rider. Not 10 to 15%.
@@blauespony1013 I am well aware of the 15% rule, I just think it's ridiculous.
Sad day when people can't tell a filled out horse isn't overweight. Seriously, horses need to be well rounded, ribs showing is starvation mode.

At least they aren’t starving

Just how I like my horses over weight. Those horses looked great IMO. Why is it people complaine others dont feed enough or complaine we over feed.
Why? Because some horses are obese and others are emaciated. Both are serious health problems. Wth is wrong with you?
