I feel that it’s important to remember that Warframe is told in the perspective of the Tenno. Godlike war machines that have no equal. To the regular citizen or militia member, the Grineer are basically super soldiers.
besides to the Solaris, who can produce insanely powerful energy weaponry that can fire armour penetrating radiation blasts that still do ok damage without arcanes and mods, but still own large quantities of them to gift to tenno its stupid that the Solaris barely do anything when they have the insane military power of the Kitguns
Yeah but with stories like the sacrifice and when we follow ballas' story we see how rly fucked the origins of the tenno are. Its kind of like there are no good guys

His work would not only reverse centuries of deterioration due to excessive cloning but also allow for stronger and deadlier genetic moulds. Eliminate Regor and put a stop to his work." - Lotus on Regor mission. He not only solved the decaying genetic problem but also enhanced grineer past their prime selves (the result may be the manic units). @@DUSKHUNTER713 It's a pragmatism thing; yes, it would be nice for the friendly Grineer to be cured of their genetic degradation, but the consequences of the Grineer Empire getting ahold of such research would pose an existential threat to all of the galaxy. Not only that, but, *Tyl Regor was a very questionable acts grineer*
@ML7WL I think part of the issue with using manics as a Lich base would be due to the fact they're mentally deranged, even by Grineer standards. Nobody wants an insane *superpowered* manic running around killing friendly troops.
I always thought that the grineer weren’t as powerful empire due to their intelligence, short life span when I first started the game with the thought of the Corpus being the most powerful. As I dove into more in the lore, I quickly change my mind, from their origins to their now goal. The grineer are more scarier than the corpus than I thought because what the corpus wants is never ending profit.
With the queens i believe the elder queen is dead but only temporarily. That is why the worm is collecting so much kuva, she's trying to bring her back. I know she has some voicelines talking about her
The very relation between the twin, equals that with time became so different with the "elder" subjugating the other sister, is a poetic portrait of the deviation and repetition in the grineer lore.
I’d agree except for one flaw. The option to spare the queen. If the worm has voice lines related to a dead queen, then that would create major plot holes
@@kaitlyndrover4095 it was implied that the Elder Queen was already dying when War Within takes place, that's why Teshin was ordered to bring in the Tenno
Abolute travesty that this only has 6k views. Really well researched, well intentioned lore. The Warframe lore is easily one of the best in modern gaming, and you've done a great job of this, mate.
Small detail ya forgot the greneir king with the poem and the message it’s hinted he lead the greneeir before the collapse and a bit after before fleeing his throne after his daughters amased a fighting force and over threw what amount of his rule remained
@@onwardsumo5189 Clem is likely not a part of the canon, as he originated from the fanbase. So Clem is basically a Void entity (perhaps even something akin to the Man in the Wall) who exists outside of time. He was summoned (or created) by the Grineer's repeated chants of "Get Clem", to which Clem possessed a Grineer who we now accompany on occasion.
some of the cannons in the grineer tilesets on mars are firing, so i think some mars cultures, if not baro's, may still be struggling onward, hence why the grineer are bombarding them. or theyre shooting at infested nests, or just shooting their cannons for fun.
Ya know what. Sometimes I wonder in the science-based missions, is if what we did was... "Good"... Like, some of them were just Grineer scientific outposts to try and research and fix the genetic decay they're suffering from, and we just hop in, slaughter a bunch of them, and run away with something important... Like, they could have been only a few months in-game into finding a cure, and we went in and destroyed it, or stole it. I honestly want to see if in a future update, if they'll add a side-faction of Grineer that aren't genetically deformed, and aren't hostile. Since they have far less genetic deformations, and likely have greater intelligence on the individual level, they'd understand "We can't fight these guys, they're basically walking tanks with space-magic".
Steel meridian consists of defected grineer who have a genetic defect meaning they can deny the queen's, so it's supposedly ingrained in them to not have free will (unless they have the defect). Then there's the defection missions where we assist grineer in leaving the faction
People think the holy Vor made the MIGHTY SEER, however he was simply the first to be worthy of its power. He tried to dominate it and it cast him aside. Now I am the herald, now I am the wielder.
If I may add some of my own hypothesise to the "why did the Grineer rebel?" question, the adaptations to the worker Grineer to make them soldiers would have aided the worker classes productivity. With wartime demands on resources and material along with less supervision and less workers with clones being diverted into the military some of the adaptations would benefit the workers. The added intelligence, teamwork and flexibility would have allowed them to work more efficiently and allow more delegation to make up for lack of supervision. It may be possible that an Orokin in charge of clone production would have realised this and made the changes, without telling the others or even defying rules/regulation in order to meet the wartime demands.
That was seen as an bad idea either because: A- The Orikin saw them as slaves that didn’t deserve bodies as special as theirs. or B- it would inevitably end in a revolution, as Grineers with higher intelligence and independent physical state would most likely eventually betray them. Even with their genetically implanted loyalty to their former masters.
Ive always been interested in the grineer prosecutors and manics. Their so different from the other grineer. Kinda wish you went over them and the nightwatch corps
31:25 Technically Vayhek’s augmentations were not willing changes. During the presentation of Dr. Tengus’ and Vay Hek’s ghouls in the hopes of gaining the Twin Queen’s favor, Vay Hek was betrayed and kicked into the enclosure to be torn apart by the monsters he helped created in a bid to show their ferocity. Although impressed, the Queens ordered Dr Tengus to “repair” Vay Hek with cybernetics and to serve under him.
The grineer didn't cause the tenno to wake up, it was their fumbling and stumbling upon a specific Orokin artifact. Specifically a key that would draw attention to Lua which Lotus took concern with. And that key void corrupted the one grineer who found it

After watching this video in conjunction with Stallord's Grineer social hierarchy video, I feel like we have a stronger grasp on how the grineer function moreso than any other faction.
I can't help but feel bad for the Grinner at this point. I mean they started as slaves to the Orokin and began to rebel, only to end up as slaves to the Orokin in the form of their Queens. And their decaying forms because of the cloning templates only add to the sad outlook on their life.
One thing that hits me about Grineer: Thay are not stupid. Basic troop? Maybe, but their entire empire no. And this is becose of one thing: They are not a physicist but more on chemical side. They are in fact the best chemist in the system, which is why they can get explosives bether than any other faction in the system, and armor that can protect against basicly any element while still being light... And don't get me started on their metalurgy. Damn that's hot!!!
This was great! Its rare to see longform lore videos on Warframe, and I for one heartily approve! I hope you do more of these, go into the lore of the other factions and what have you in similar depth.
I don't know if Smough still does Warframe videos but a full Lore breakdown video of Warframe would be awesome! Because I haven't found a good video on it yet. Maybe I will soon. Any recommendations are appreciated!
Once the sentients defeat the tenno there next target will be the Grineer due to there massive kuva supply, kuva is capable of fixing the sentients "flaw" caused by void exposure. Without the flaw nothing will stop the sentients... well maybe Clem and his Grkatats XP
Or maybe they would just go for the Kuva first. Maybe that's why they attacked Cetus early in TNW. Tenno will be overwhelmed by sentients now fully cured of void poison
One thing I realized by watching your videos are that the Tyl Regor tubemen look the same as a kuva larvaling. Perhaps to make the original grineer, Tyl Regor was so close to making the original but he fell short, as he needed the last ingredient of Kuva to make them original again
38:30 Even in Railjack missions when a grineer fighter says “For the Queens” plural, some might comment over the radio “Wait, queens, but didn’t one of them…”
As someone who's played on and off again since 2013, it's really nice to have the lore lined up like this, as I've missed the addition of bits and pieces over the years. A boss fight for a frame I already have here, some early-game content I've already "cleared" there. Looking forward to digging into the back catalog and seeing what else has gained depth since beta!
"I am angry. Why is this happening ? Is that an Orokin ?" To me, this extract from the lancer synthesis implies the the seeds of rebellion were already present in the Grineer workers. When something threatening happens, the first thought of this worker is that the Orokin are behind this. This though is then immediately repressed of course - "No, we serve the Orokin". But nonetheless, it shows the Grineer workers did not trust their Oroking masters even though they were totally submitted to their will. I'd suspect this may even be by design. We know the Orokin loved to use fear as a tool of control, so engineering their caste of worker drones to be afraid of themselves would make sense in that context. "A fearful worker is an obedient worker". But as you said, when they turned the Grineer into canon fodder instead of slave workers, they needed to give them stronger sense of self preservation. And not just with respect to themselves, but their fellow brothers in arms as well. And eventually this would lead some Grineer to react to their innate fear of their masters in a new, much different way. The Orokin were powerful, that is true. But so were the Sentients and the Tenno. Yet after the war only the Grineer remained. "Could the cruel Orokin be dealt with the same way", some soldiers probably started thinking. " Now they are weak, now we are strong. Why submit in fear if we can make them go away ?".
Since they clone themselves from already cloned templates which over time becomes rotten then at some point is it possible that the grineer as a entirety will die out due to old and devolved clone tissue?
The Grineer are, effectively, a dying race. Under the leadership of the Queens, they aren't allowed to innovate and create their own civilization. On their current course, they'll only ever be an inferior shadow of the Orokin.
this really is a sad story. i feel bad for them, they never had a childhood, they never had a mother or father to care for them the proper way. all the grineer know is slaughter. they HAVE to slaughter. they would be better not even being born because they just suffer neglect. they are basically just built to rot at this point. they are just doing what they have to to survive in warframes troubled universe. so really are the grineer really the bad guys in all of this? or..... are we? BuT tHaTs JuSt A tHeOrY... a GaMe ThEoRy
*!!!NEW WAR SPOILERS!!!* with the introduction of Kahl-175 32:59 has been made much more apparent, with him saying "for my brothers" in the beginning of New War post New War he didn't want anyone to suffer from the veils and was even willing to help corpus men break free from their veils, he even works with the tenno now because of the horrors created by the veil
Very good video. I would enjoy seeing more of these going from basics to more advanced since we have gotten more lore now in comparison from 4 years ago. I also like the thumbnail. It's simple and attractive. Good work 👍
Here's an interesting thought... I've seen a lot of grineer. Even some in tubes. But I've never seen one get...born. Unless Ghouls count. Where are they trained? The majority of them (I assume) are currently born on Uranus. Then what? Go to earth? Live long enough and move to Mars or Mercury? Then the best of the best work on the Kuva Fortress?
I'm brushing up on my Warframe history to try and connect dots in The New War, and you are the only person to get the Grineer Queens right. Everyone seems confused as to why they act like Orokin but appear obviously Grineer. Thank you for the entertaining and informative lore video!
This deserves more attention! More views and likes! I respect and am amazed to people that does these things for someone like me who wants to know more and understand more of the game that I love.
Hot damn am I glad I've finally discovered your channel. The quality of your presentation and editing is top notch and I mean that sincerely. This is excellently done and fascinating. Final comment after finishing the video: I loved it. I may be rather biased because the Grineer are my absolute hands-down favorite but this honestly was awesome all the way through.
The pride the Grineer hold is tied to how they were kept in line: by feeling immense pride in thier work and connection to thier fellow workers, helping eachother to work as efficiently yet cheaply as possible with as little oversight by the Orokin and thier servants as possible. As the empire began to crumble, from corruption, stagnation and the Old War as the culmination, mutations in the gene mix used led to some Grineer's genetic pride becoming a core, that in modern Warframe times gives them an extreme in-group preference, but if you can earn thier trust (Clem, Khal, Steel Meridian), they are fiercely loyal, considering you on the same level as thier gene-brothers and gene-sisters. They're really cool.
I think it’s amazing how u took the time to put all this lore together. I’ve been playing warframe since 2014 and I didn’t even know aloe of this stuff . Very cool
I so wish more people would pay attention to the lore of all the parts of Warframe , lots of people miss out on the whole point of this game they just speed run it and then wonder why they get board of the game , when they could learn about it and then enjoy the game , I'm one of the type that really play it and am glad to see this video and know I'm not the only one.
This was a great hobby video! I was building 40k and this was compiled very well. Awesome job keeping me focused and i now want to build and paint Warframes miniatures
I've watched this for 3 times now. Your presentations style is very commendable compared to some lore channels on other games I play. It's just unfortunate that Warframe is in dire need of active lore content creators.
I've realised something, depending on when it became part of the Orokin culture the twin stigma might be related to the Entrati's first expedition into the void. A twin would be reminiscent of an individual being born with their doppelganger. I haven't dove much into the lore so there's a good chance that theory can be swiftly debunked.
i always felt that the grineer drew atleast some inspiration from warhammer 40k's space marines, or more specifically the chaos space marines, not entirely obviously but to a fair degree
This is an amazing video, very concise! You cover so many aspects of the grineer and give good insights on details. A long video like this must not have been easy to make but I greatly appreciate that you did because the grineer are my favorite faction in warframe!
I think the Grineer's past is as explored as it could ever be without going into information bloat. All that's left is the future, and how they'll interact with the Infestation and the Sentients. ---Right now the focus is on the history of the Corpus (Parvos Granum is testament to that). I think, after we explore as much of that as DE's lore crafters feel gives us a clear enough picture of the progression of the Corpus, we'll shift to the Infestation. And with that shift, possibly Infestation Liches. Think about it. ---We _know_ the Infestation is intelligent, and only getting smarter as time goes on. The Phorid units and Lephantis can _speak_ to us; Juggernaut commanders - while incapable of speech as far as we know - can provide useful bonuses to all Infestation combatants within an entire complex or starship; Cephalon Jordas was _assimilated_ into the Infestation, giving the hive mind a massive boost to its intelligence and computational capacity; the beasts on Deimos are hardier, stronger, and more menacing; The Cult of Arlo was even an elaborate trap constructed by the Infestation itself to gain _willing victims,_ even further enhancing its intellect and ability to adapt! Is it too much of a stretch to think that they'll stumble upon the same or similar methods used by Kuva Liches and the Sisters of Parvos? ---My current theory, based on how this video was structured and how detailed SmoughTown was able to be, is as such: the Sisters of Parvos update is making way for more Corpus Shenanigans, possibly even that rumored 3rd Orb Mother (a desperate attempt by Nef Anyo to strike out and gain complete power, perhaps?). Once things are on a decent enough cliffhanger (like the Grineer are on now), we'll swap to an Infestation focus. And once they reach that same point with the Infestation, The New War will start. A war waged by four separate factions, each looking to eradicate all that stands in their way. And in that moment, we as the Tenno will have to make a choice. Do we unite our allies (forcing the Relay Synds to put aside their petty squabbles for the greater good, getting Teshin off his ass, arming and rallying Cetus and Fortuna, motivating and possibly even _curing_ the Entrati Family) and become a fifth army fighting for peace within the Origin System? Or do we let the System fall into ruin, while we take advantage of the chaos to figure out what The Man in the Wall wants from us?
Thank you, I've recently gotten into warframe but am completely lost on the lore. Ur video was clear and easy to understand as well as interesting keep up the great work man!
that makes sense. how the cloning will have little "kinks" or mess ups in the coding, that explains why some grineer try to save themselves during battle by trying to run or dodge. their screams also sound more humanlike.
I am hoping that should we traverse the Void that envelopes Duviri, a realm within the Drifter’s reality, that we could arrive in their respective Origin System, one where the Orokin still persist. A whole system full of prime weaponry and frames. A system where the Grineer of old are the standard of the present. Where an uprising that hadn’t occurred opens the door to new foes and allies.
Your videos have so much more visual story telling compared to stallordD where you show clear and accurate clips of what you are talking about. Love the effort, please do not stop.
regarding tyl regor and grineer "development", i think it is a matter of variability the mutations they suffer make them more variable, and it is the variability that allows grineer like tyl regor to pop up in the same way that the mutations can cause constant tumours, and a pletora of conditions that make them look the way they do (rotting skin and missing limbs), and lose cognitive capability, they also open way for mutations that improve their minds instead
Aren't the clones at risk of being wiped out by simply finding the cloning factories and just destroying them thus removing their ability to reproduce more?
23:13 any civilization that survives oppression by another usually goes on to perpetrate oppression on others, often with the same tools or methods. The ships the Moors used to invade Al-Andalus inspired the design of those the Spanish used to sail to the New World, crewed by men hardened in the battles of the Reconquista.
Most tenno forget that despite being literal copies off a degrading dna template, they are still human, with wants, hopes and a tenacious, loyal(if misguided) human heart. And now we can finally play as grineer thanks to the New War. And best of all, we play as BASED BROTHER KAHL-175
I would love to have other games in the Warframe universe that give us perspectives other than the Tenno. Imagine playing a VR game a-la HL:A where you have to stealthily infiltrate a grineer galleon for data, but get this, you're just a lone operative. Not a Tenno war machine. The grineer would be massive and imposing forces of military might from your perspective and i'd love to get a taste of that.
I think there are two core reasons why they became so narcissistic. First, they overcame the Orokin, whom they looked up to as the gods of their worlds. By defeating the gods, they themselves must be gods as well. Second, the one thing that got them where they are now is individual thought. As such, they hold onto that individuality as much as possible, and survive by loving themselves. Also, shoutout to Kahl, "For the queens... no, for my brothers"

The difference is the corpus need people alive to buy from them, while the grineer are convinced only the grineer should exist. PERIOD.
With the queens i believe the elder queen is dead but only temporarily. That is why the worm is collecting so much kuva, she's trying to bring her back. I know she has some voicelines talking about her
Very possible and something I hope is true!
The very relation between the twin, equals that with time became so different with the "elder" subjugating the other sister, is a poetic portrait of the deviation and repetition in the grineer lore.
I’d agree except for one flaw. The option to spare the queen. If the worm has voice lines related to a dead queen, then that would create major plot holes

some of the cannons in the grineer tilesets on mars are firing, so i think some mars cultures, if not baro's, may still be struggling onward, hence why the grineer are bombarding them. or theyre shooting at infested nests, or just shooting their cannons for fun.

@@GhostPotato268 That’s why this sergeant is a boss I’m phones. He is a forward commander.

I’d believe it if the Grineer were firing their cannons for fun. Grineer seem like they’d find genuine amusement in weapon fire.

That was seen as an bad idea either because:
A- The Orikin saw them as slaves that didn’t deserve bodies as special as theirs.
or
B- it would inevitably end in a revolution, as Grineers with higher intelligence and independent physical state would most likely eventually betray them. Even with their genetically implanted loyalty to their former masters.
They need to make a movie already that explains all of this through showing instead of telling.
And add it into the game as clips or something idk.
But the novelty of finding lore will be gone...

And their decaying forms because of the cloning templates only add to the sad outlook on their life.
nice summarization.
considering Kahl-175 says 'for the queens' in The New War, yes, the death of the old sister is kept secret from them
One thing that hits me about Grineer: Thay are not stupid.
Great content, I really like this longer and more in-depth video. Hope to see more in the future and keep up the good work!
Really appreciate that :) more to come soon

Once the sentients defeat the tenno there next target will be the Grineer due to there massive kuva supply, kuva is capable of fixing the sentients "flaw" caused by void exposure. Without the flaw nothing will stop the sentients... well maybe Clem and his Grkatats XP
Agree - Grineer are defo the main force they would have to deal with
Lol
Grik-atats
or... K A H L
Is that an Orokin ?"
To me, this extract from the lancer synthesis implies the the seeds of rebellion were already present in the Grineer workers.
The Ghouls are already devolved. Mindless weapons with no fear unlike the grunts wich can still feel fear
Not if Tyl Regor has anything to say about it.
@@notsae66 tubemen moment

Here's an interesting thought...
I've seen a lot of grineer. Even some in tubes. But I've never seen one get...born. Unless Ghouls count.
Where are they trained? The majority of them (I assume) are currently born on Uranus. Then what? Go to earth? Live long enough and move to Mars or Mercury? Then the best of the best work on the Kuva Fortress?
Their probably educated while still growing in their tanks like Grunt was in mass effect
born on uranus… ahh…
I'm brushing up on my Warframe history to try and connect dots in The New War, and you are the only person to get the Grineer Queens right. Everyone seems confused as to why they act like Orokin but appear obviously Grineer.
Thank you for the entertaining and informative lore video!

This was brilliant, fascinating lore, thank you so much for taking the time to make this for us, incredibly well made!
Never actually new they were created by the orokin. The original genetically modified clones look great. So hyped for the new war. For my brothers

I've watched this for 3 times now. Your presentations style is very commendable compared to some lore channels on other games I play. It's just unfortunate that Warframe is in dire need of active lore content creators.
As in-depth and astounding as this video is, it hurts my heart that none of the top comments are simply
"Clem."
"Grakata."
THIS was amazing!! Thank you for creating and sharing this ^_^
I think the Grineer's past is as explored as it could ever be without going into information bloat.
Someone commented that the Grineer frontier camo ruins the immersion.....
of this sci-fi robot game? Just wow.
Love the effort, please do not stop.

we need a corpus one this is amazing
Grineer will always be my most favorite faction… their design, weapons, ships, armor, etc. just gets to me 🤷♂️🤷♀️🤷
regarding tyl regor and grineer "development", i think it is a matter of variability
the mutations they suffer make them more variable, and it is the variability that allows grineer like tyl regor to pop up
in the same way that the mutations can cause constant tumours, and a pletora of conditions that make them look the way they do (rotting skin and missing limbs), and lose cognitive capability, they also open way for mutations that improve their minds instead
I haven’t even watched much but I can tell it’s a good video lmao
Aren't the clones at risk of being wiped out by simply finding the cloning factories and just destroying them thus removing their ability to reproduce more?
Except there are likely hundreds of thousands of clone labs
There are hundreds of thousands of growing labs across several planets. It's not that easy.
Great vid, thanks for making these, I love the lore behind warframe factions, will be back for more
I like how that base in earth you can go to you can see a defective grineer working on the computer and technical computer
I totally forgot that this game starts with your ride getting the Boot.

Grineer being able to rebel because the ones bred for war had to be a little smarter is a good take I hadn't considered
We should be able to bring our rail jack under water and have a under water open world
With archwing as a cherry on top
Most tenno forget that despite being literal copies off a degrading dna template, they are still human, with wants, hopes and a tenacious, loyal(if misguided) human heart. And now we can finally play as grineer thanks to the New War.
And best of all, we play as BASED BROTHER KAHL-175
This is the endgame content for me, just finding out wf’s lore
Real nice! Thank you for this!
Are you going to do one on the other factions? Like corpus, Tenno or even Sentinels when the next update comes out?
I defo am, the next one I am working on is the Sentients!
Gotta keep that lore uptated. Thank ya!
I swear I fucking saw glados from portal in the thumbnail
If Kamino was on a budget.
