Day 42 of Peter McKinnon MUST HAVE: I'm on to my third duffel bag to carry the equipment, the house is foreclosed, my wife left me, but my footage... my footage is... freaking... AMAZING
Right. I mean, jupiters cock, I just picked up the pro tactic and then he jumps to the Whistler.
Love the pro tactic, will stick with this bear until I have supplemental I come. Cant mortgage again 🤣
He'll slow down when Amazon stops sending affiliate checks.
@Carson McRae U look too young to be married anyway ;)
Hahahahahah!! (Y)
Sounds like the intro to a country song
Make a full video explaining everything about flash. Plz .
😂 Nice one.... "flash us"
the video would literally be an hour
You'd need more than one video for that! Haha. you'd need to go over the physics of light, positioning flash (angle/distance), diffusers, camera settings, overpowering the sun, using flash with ND filters, HSS, ETTL, reflectors, and so many more light modifiers.
That being said, if Peter choses to make those videos, I'd definitely watch them. His videos are just so well put together!
Make a series
@@mat.delpapa I am well informed about all these. It looks like u thought I was a noob. I am 600 mm shooter buddy. The only reason I asked was because I want these bunch of videos to be made by Peter
I have to say, flash changed my photography life. I used to be a “natural light” photographer, but when I discovered what it could do, I completely changed my game.
Me too, it was so much better to get the exact lighting I wanted.
I need to learn this. Which flash do you recommend? I also do macro.
Me too, I regret I did not buy a flash earlier instead of all those expensive lenses
6:12 "The people who are paying you for those photos are probably gonna be happier when they're lit"
Instructions unclear, ended up arrested for drug trafficking
I don't even have a camera and I still watch all your videos....
My mom gives me camera to continue my vlog if I get 1000. And thank you for all your teaching to us man. It will big help to my channel soon..
You're not alone.
Same bro well mine is on it’s way
@@OlanNellas subbed😉
@@wolfe4410 wow thank you man.. 😊😊 appreciated. God bless you man.. 😊😊
I have a sock over my flashlight. :X And I have different colored socks for that....
same
That is one the most interesting thing i've ever read about using a Flash. Will try and remember this tip.
sounds very interesting.......I want to try that
I use condoms which makes my model sexier.
Thanks so much Peter for making this one. I really appreciate your thoughtful points! I can’t wait to shoot with a flash!
I have 3 of these. I use them with softboxes (via bowens mount). Gone with those flashes for years: mud, rain, river, snow, high noons shoots.... with YN560-TX you can also adjust the power of each one :)
It is must a must have in my opinion also :)
Love the energy you bring to every single video you do. Keep it up man!
He drinks coffee
If only Earth can run on Peter's energy. We'll be lit all day all night.
Yes! Finally a flash vid from PM! No one delivers information in the same entertaining and engaging way that you do Pete! Thanks for another awesome video 🤟🏻
Maybe examples next time with friends, family or models, it’s brilliant talking about it but actual photo examples of the techniques you’re talking would have been so helpful
Agreed
I was skeptical when I first bought the Yongnuo YN-560III about 4 years back but I was blown away by the quality of the light and how reliable it is. Now I have two of them and still haven’t run into any issues. Great, informative video Peter. 🙌🏻
Would you recommend this flash?
@@castbyjohnflytying ?
@@rhysprendergast5842 ya he mentioned that he will let us know once he test it , so was wondering would he recommend it after he tested it.
Love your vocal solos xD hahah Keep awesome!!
Having also seen the positive reviews, I purchased this flash and the matching controller for about $100 US total last year. It certainly works well enough for my needs. The controller is capable of triggering multiple flash units for those that need more complex lighting arrangements. Long story short: this is a better investment for getting started with flash rather than spending the cost of another camera to get the matching brand name flash.
I like how, when you showed the sample photos of yourself, you used the sound of the camera focusing and capturing the picture. Nice touch! That's the small things that make you videos a step above. Thanks again for making these.
Peter, I don't know if you'll see this, but I greatly enjoy your videos and they've made a huge impact on my photography and honestly life in general, I started with a old 50d, and just watching your videos inspired me to put work into what I enjoy and I just want you to know that even something as light hearted as your videos can have an amazing effect. Thank you
I love those kind of videos !
Really helpfull for *new creators* !
Thanks !
Loved the intro also !
Bwaaaaaaa, Bwa bwa bwa bwaaaaaaaa ! haha !
Hey yeah we definitely need a full video on flash photography. We need this!
Thanks for this video, Peter. I value the "not as fun" information, and some how you still make it entertaining and engaging! Keep doing great things!
Take it to the Studio for sure!!! I love the science behind studio photography and lighting. You're the man Pete! Keep crushing it!
What a coincidence a friend of mine are starting his way to photography and we talk about the benefits of having a flash and BOOM.... this video came out . A thousand thanks Peter. Now I can share this content to my friend . 👍👍
You've done an amazing job and I really like your videos. However I have used a Yongnuo YN568 and now own a Godox TT685C for use with my Canon EOS 700D/Rebel T5i.
1) The Godox has a better build quality. The Yongnuo I used sounded like cracking when held.
2) The Godox has faster cycle times and manages power better. It has fast cycle times at 1/4 power or higher and has never heated my Eneloop batteries whereas the Yongnuo made them heat up after shooting in longer parties.
3) The Godox has a really nice user interface, especially if you're a Canon, Sony or Lumix user and used to scroll wheels. It makes changing settings much faster.
4) Godox flashes are relevant even after a system change. I want to change to Micro Four Thirds or Fuji and I know I can buy a new Godox and pair it with my Canon version for dual flash setups completely trouble-free.
Awesome Maestro! I have been waiting for this video for a while! Thank you Pete for this!
Always cool to see you make advice/tips videos, that is the reason I initially subscribed and started following you ... keep up the great work !
Flashes are just so much fun if you get some time to play around with them!
I've never used an on camera flash but I do use a studio flash quite often.
Might just give it a try... thanks for the video, keep being awesome!
Weirdly the one time I got a picture I really liked with on board flash, I exposed past it. Logically it should have just massively overexposed but it actually filled the color and contour back into the picture, perhaps because the on board flash was weak enough lol. (It was just an alcoholic drink at a place with cool lights)
YES PLEASE PLEASE do a video on flash photography!! Thank you!!
Love your videos man they’re a huge help I’m learning so much and I’m sure once I start to apply this to my channel my videos will get way better thanks man keep killing it!!
Finally!! I've ben so curious about this particular flash and been waiting for you to make a 'review' of it. Thanks!
Excellent as always
Didn't expect to see you here!
I switched from Yongnuo to GODOX. It's so much better. Better build, better recycle times, better battery performance.
BadWolfKnight agreed. Pete’s been out of the flash game for too long. The stuff coming out of Godox is amazing.
Been considering making the change - which unit(s) did you go with?
Yep, the godox 860 with the rechargeable battery!
Usually see pro's using Yongnuo as a backup or misc use, but not primary. I also use Godox and it better than my old Sony flashes. (and cheaper too) Godox AD200, ad400 etc.
I got them also, together with the Godox triggers. Amazing stuff for that price.
Great video and some great tips delivered in the easy and relaxed way that you do these videos. I’d love another more in depth video on flash.
Finally a flash video!!! Definitely need more flash tutorials and tips please post more! Really needed this content thank you
I bought a Neewer flash gun for $30. You just have to learn how to set the exposure manually but it's really worth it!
oh boi your a mindreader, literally 2 days ago i was thinking about...man...pete should do a video about flashes
Seriously i was thinking that too...
Yes, Please, Peter.... I always learn so much from the way you break things down. Having already purchased flash courses and not really understanding the material fully, I wound up placing my flash on the back of my desk and haven't turned it on in over a year.... anything you teach about flash will be appreciated.
Awesome vid as usual...I work primarily with video and am trying to ramp up my skills in photography (naturally) and flash is new territory for me...Much appreciated and I hope to see more!!! Great job Peter!!!
Good Tip man!Thank you!
Gotta love the humming in the beginning
You hella funny Bruh😅😅, that instrumental intro was priceless😅😅. Man. I agree with everything you said in this awesome video. I've been through the cheap flash, Fong diffuser, bouncing off walls, ect. I really enjoyed this video and the stringed instrument impersonation 😅😅😅. Keep on pushing Bruh. God bless
these intros are the simple reasons why we just love you!
We neeeeed that full video explaining everything about flashes. ALSO I want to watch you interact with a model bc i've never seen you before.
Thank you for making videos like this! Real photographers/ videographers understand that lighting and audio is everything. While amateurs just want to look at shiny new camera bodies.
I love how Peter is making videos about more budget options for gear, keep at it!🙏🏼👍🏼
The question I’ve asked for the past four Q&A vids was about external flash, and you’ve responded with an entire video. Needless to say, I’m very appreciative! Thanks Pete!
Wow, Peter you've got a great blues voice. I'm a singing teacher, and just from your first few bars of riffing I really want to encourage you to explore singing a bit more maybe?!
Who else is having a coffee while watching Pete?
I really needed this video, thanks!
Yes please!! Full video explaining flash would be so helpful!! :D
I would recommend the Godox TT600. For me is the best. It doesn't have e-ttl. But it has built in wireless, high speed sync and a bucnh of more stuff. And THE BEST PART. THE PRICE! IT'S ONLY 66€ (74$ aprox.). I highly recommend it. Just wanted to share it with you guys. Have a nice day! Bye! :D
Hola ! Just go for a Godox TT685 that has all the features of a Pro-Flash and cost about 150$ CAD. super easy to use and does have the E-TTL feature. simply way better !
AHH I LOVE THAT YOU MADE THIS!! DO MORE WITH FLASHES PLEASEEE!
thank you. this video helped a lot. Im slowly but surely adding more tools to my photography tool box and knowledge.
Nice to see you talk about flash Pete, but currently the crowd favorite budget option is Godox. You should definitely check it out! TT600/TT685 are more feature rich options, and the slightly more expensive V850II and V860II have lithium ion batteries that are significantly faster at recycling than AA speedlights.
Not to mention Godox has an insanely diverse set of tools beyond the speedlight, that all work off the same internal radio system. They also have cross compatibility between all the big camera brands, so you don't have to replace your flash system if you change brands.
robert, thoughts on the V350 Lithium flash vs the two you mentioned?
scrap that, assuming the tt685c will fit my Canon SL2 then that should be all i need. i wonder if the built in diffuser is enough.
It's also wise to invest in rechargable AA batteries for strobes because they eat through batteries so quickly and it's gonna get expensive buying disposable AA batteries often, plus they're not good for rhe environment 😀
Awesome video Pete!!
bob lester or you can just get the godox 860 with the rechargeable battery.
@@TJuice1986 Except it's a single purpose battery - for that flash unit - and you will still need more than one at $40 USD / battery.
Wild Biker Bill nah, I’ll just need 1
@@TJuice1986 I'm likely just paranoid. Always have spares.
Love your energy. Thanks for being so informative.
LMAO you're so funny, but darn good at what you do. Excellent video Peter - going to get it now!
Damn! Yongnou! Can you also test their lenses Pete? Thanks for another vid!
got their 35 f2 for my Canon 6D and its extremely cheap and sharp, af is working very good too
Currently watching Peter McKinnon while drinking coffee made from my Chemex... life is good
Tom Koz goals
Sean Holladay he really ruined regular coffee for me and I’m not even mad about it haha
Same here man!
hahaha.
This sounds amazing. This sounds like happiness.
Finally! A Peter Mackinnon flash video! Really want to learn flash so yes yes yes to making more videos on this subject!
The new set up looks good. Can't wait to see what you do with it from here on.
The comment section is advertising Godox.
Get Godox instead, they have an amazing 2,4ghz Transmitter with great controls for on camera. Best system right now
I vote renting a studio and explaining different lighting techniques. Maybe even renting a softbox setup or collabing with another creator that shoots strobes and hitting the streets with a model or showing how to shoot products using a softbox setup. I've been waiting on one of these videos forever!
Andrew Hutto I’d love this!
I was so impressed by the construction, performance, and price of my first Yongnuo 560 IV flash that I immediately purchased three more. The YN 560 IV has become my workhorse electronic flash for shooting portraits, action, interior architecture, weddings, still lifes, macro, and candids.
0:01. When u dont know the lyrics and still wanna sing
Need a tutorial on the skat solo.
agree haha
Please try to rember how a statement like this sounds to someone unfamiliar with jazz lmao
That's nicely done in 3:58...
Good job I follow and thanks to your 2' minutes (yeah right) Tuesday Tutorials... Whoop! Whoop!
Yes! I'd like another tutorial with more detail about flash photography please!
I wish I had that kinda money
This flash is actually somewhat cheaper than 99$. If you actually have around 100$ I'd recommend the YN 600 EX RT II for about 108$. I own two of them and they have never let me down. They also come with a great TTL system and you can either wirelessly control one flash with another or use the controller built for the system. It's also compatible with Canon's flash system.
Thanks Peter! This information took me a solid couple of years to really learn as it was not always available in one concise video! You are right that buying flashes is not sexy, but they are imperative for better event photography- another lesson learned the hard way! I would love to see a video on studio photography!
I use the 560iv and use them ALWAYS for all my event photography and they are PERFECT and i can even get 2 of them for the price for one Canon flash and it is so easy to use. Definetly recommend it. Thx for talking about it Peter!👊
I'd love to see you rent out a studio and play around with the flashes. My go-to cheap/quality flashes are Godox - they are every bit as good as the Canon brand and in some cases, a little better.
Can you name ONE of those cases?
We should shoot weddings together again!
JK never again no thank you!
Explain yourself sir.
Explain yourself sir x2

Bro, KILLER intro jam. On the real!
Oh and thanks for the awesome info!
Peter, I'm so happy I found your channel today! Who said a video about a flash couldn't get anyone's attention 😄 The content was delivered with practical tips and humour. Looking forward to watching your other stuff!
Nice video Peter The Godox TT685 is better value for money and many more features
Godox (or Flashpoint from Adorama...US warranty and much better people to deal with Q&A) can give you a manual with the lithium ion battery for about the same. I know some photogs that swear by Youngnuo and some that hate them...just depends on which truck it comes off of lol. Flashpoint seems to be the best low cost flash I've come across.
It's actually $10 cheaper and offers more. The Godox V860II. Also known as the Flashpoint Zoom Manual Li-On.
The idea of the full video about flashes is amazing!
Dang PM you go some skat skills! Groovin.
Love the musical into!! And a "BBWHAT'S UP?" as well. Good form
What with godox they have an amazing flashes and rechargeable batteries
Maaan, thanks you for this video, really helpful tips
This flash is amazing! I love it for events/partys. So awesome and cheap. No more words to say
Great video! Don't resist the flash 🙂.
The Godox TT685 is better value for money and has better features for hardly anymore money 🙂
That's what I went with.....it's great for real estate! Paired it with some Manfrotto light stands, and umbrella diffuser....super easy to work with.
Godox flash system is very simple but well organized. One trigger & you can fire almost all of the TTL flashes of Godox. Thye've inbuilt receiver inside the flash & hence you don't need additional receiver.
Godox offers so much more! Thanks for this comment.
thx x
Yeah
Yongnuo is junk! Try the Godox units... much greater realiability/performance and works brilliantly with their x-pro trigger system.
I agree. YN's good side is only their price.
Spare me the hyperbole. Yongnuo is not junk.
Hell yes to the studio shoot!!
Yaaassss! The final piece of the puzzle! Great video! Off to Amazon I go!
Peter: "Tubberware"
Me a year later: "Tubberware? Did you mean to say ''tupperware'?"
Godox flashes are much better and if you get the 860II LI-ON Battery last forever.
I love youtubers that interact with their viewers & reply like or comment on their videos ....
I wake up every morning and watch your vids thanks man for starting my day so good
Can I have a Peter McKinnon for $99? That's the real question!
No. The real answer. He’s priceless
The godox v860ii is a great flash too. It is also not that expensive and it has an ettl mode.
double price ;)
And rechargeable battery
Agreed the godox v860II is amazing.
Before watching rest of video, solely on the preintro, you’re a nut. Love it.
Thanks for the video, very interesting! I would love a video about using flash!
Can you make a video about flash photography and how to use a flash. It would be awesome if you made one. Thanks!
I got $100 used Godox TT685 (like new) from DowntownCamera :)
Hello Peter!
I saw one of your videos and I was sold on how funny and knowledgeable you were and I clicked that subscription button. I am barely starting to video edit, and I mean beginner beginner video editing. I am looking through your videos and I’m trying to find a “ super beginner video editor tutorial” lol. Just wanna say I am excited to learn as much as I can and can’t wait for another 2 min Tuesdays!
Yes, everything you said at the end, please do it! I love all you content but the main reason a lot of us follow you is to learn from you and Flash is one of those things i just haven’t been able to put the time into learning
