sawyerhartman I think that would be a great addition. A few years ago I bought a mini camera card holder that fits on my camera strap. Keep a cf card and an sd on there in case of emergency. Albeit card failure or out on a remote location away from my camera back and end up with a full card.
Have carried one of those daily for years. I have several actually. Made a kit for wedding work with hairspray, feminine products, mirrors, etc. It has come in quite handy several times.
This emergency kit is my vibe. After I moved to Paris like 6 years ago I started using a compass, and I realised there is so much more I could be bringing to help me out on my daily journeys anywhere. Electrical tape has helped me block annoying lights in hotel rooms a couple time in the last few months. Something so small can help you to sleep, that’s big. Paracord lets me hang up wet clothing, tie things to the outside of my backpack.
Coming from ski touring photography where first aid and tool fixing kits are key, I cannot emphasise enough how much I appreciate this video. Btw. I keep my Gaffer tape wrought around my ski poles or my tripod legs. Just unwind half a roll or so by regluing it around the pole/tripodleg. No need for a chunky role, you can still use regular sized tape and it basically carries itself
Dude. Great tips. I also carry single use Krazy Glue. I once used it to close a large gash in my head because I couldn’t get to a hospital. So many uses.
You are truly the main inspiration that makes me want to become Canadian, this coming from an American. I agree with having a small bag like that because simply put "You never know". I tend to always carry a small first aid kit, multi-tool makes sense as well, electrical tape, etc.
Just started snapping after getting a DSLR for my 30th and i'm usually in my office till gone midnight watching your content, i'm hooked. keep up the great work so easy to watch and learn.
Great minds think alike😉 I carry everything you mentioned , except for the Canadian $50-🇺🇸, but instead, it’s all in my Toyota 4Runner. I also include a bunch of vehicle self recovery gear, etc. Love the feeling of having all this stuff at my fingertips. Just love it!
Pete, I challenge you to make b roll without 120fps for one vlog(24fps specifically), I need to see it happen, I'm commenting this on every video until you do it.
Lol! I have one of these for my personal purse but for the life of me idk why i never thought of have an emergency kit for my camera. Im that co-worker/mom that always has everything in her purse. I need to apply this to my camera bag. Thanks Peter.
Me: I need to find a black maple leaf patch... Also Me: But you’re not Canadian? Me: Don’t ask questions, it’s in Peters kit dammit! Side note: talking to yourself is healthy?😳
Alternative solution for removing an over tightened lens filters. Hi Peter; Thanks for developing this video. An option to loosen over-tightened lens filters is to use rubberized shelving mats cut to the size of your largest lens filter. I have found that wrapping this around both filters allows you to losses them really quickly without any damage. Also it can be folded to a small size to fit your emergency kit. Keith Pinn, Barrie, Ontario
I love videos like this cause I’m always like “hey I could totally use that in my kit” and I’ll go throw said item in my bag. Probably explains why my backpack weighs a ton 🤔
Hey Pete fellow canadian here, actually about 45 minutes east from Tdot. One thing i would recommend would be a lifestraw with an esbit stove, a dehydrated meal, and a empty 1L nalgene bottle for the backpack.
Have you come across reusable zip ties? They tend to be a bit wider and grip stuff better, and can be loosened to reconfigure attachments quickly without having to cut them and waste them! As a person who does occasional live sound work, an essential that I also always have on me is a small roll of white electrical tape, and a permanent marker/sharpie. It does everything a roll of gaffer tape can do, whilst also making it very easy to label stuff, and leaving little adhesive residue on equipment!

Super glue! I am constantly using it. Whether it’s for first aid, house projects, fixing things, or just eating it, it’s amazing stuff. Fun fact: super glue was accidentally invented. During World War II, a man was trying to make clear firearm sights. He abandoned the formulation because it was too sticky. But, later on there was a project to make airplane canopies. A man on the pricey used the formulation by applying it to a pair of prisms. And it stuck surprisingly well. And ever since, we have super glue, originally known as Eastman #910.
Rope can be so handy. When camping last year we had an incident with our tent while we were out hiking. The straps on 1 side that attach to the stakes broke loose. It was really windy at the time and our tent almost blew into a nearby lake. A nearby camper saw it and tied our tent back to the stakes with an extra shoelace that he had. I also have an extra shoe lace in my bag, as I've been too lazy too buy para-cord yet. When my fiance first saw my backpack, she made fun of me for keeping a shoelace in my bag. I haven't let her live it down yet.
I was literally just now searching for accessories to better organise my camera bag! Thank you, timing was spot on with this video haha! Who else agrees?
My bag essentials are my canon 6D and my sigma 35 art I literally NEED them everywhere I go. This little pouch is a wonderful idea thank you AGAIN.... excuse me while I go binge watch your videos
Literally went back to the beginning because I thought it was edited... turns out, it wasn't.. THEN TURNS OUT HE KNEW I WHAT I WAS THINKING AND FORESHADOWED TF OUTTA ME!! BAFFLED!
One tip for gaff tape I got a long time ago was to wrap a few feet of it around a double A battery. That way your roll of tape is even more super small, and in a pinch you’ve got a spare battery. Awesome vid, love me some EDC!
I never thought I’d ever have an emergency pouch, so thank you for this video. This is so useful. I added a whistle to mine, knowing me, I have a tendency of getting lost in the woods. Me and my man were amazed that you didn’t have a satchel of coffee hidden in there. Hahahahaha
So like, I've been trying to figure out the flipstick vanish for 2 or 3 years practicing on and off. I just now figured it out watching a photography video. Thanks Peter
Gaff tape backup! A good tip is to wrap a few strips of gaffers tape around your sharpie or a screw driver. if you lent out your gaff tape to a friend, you always have that gaff tape backup!

This is THE single most entertaining and informative video I have ever come across. A complete mix of Laughing, Learning, and Peter McKinnon. Cool Beans.
No we don't care about the two minutes! Thank you for the information, but also for the laugh!! Having surgery this Thursday & I needed to laugh today!!
I wanted a bag that was the least expected bag for cameras, so I got a RUSH 24 5.11 backpack and shoved a bag insert for cameras inside. This video further inspired me to use tiny pouches for EVERYTHING.
Don't worry about the length of the video. Speaking for all your fans we just like the vids for watching you, learning all your great tips and tricks and not to mention the entertainment!! Keep coming with those untimed "2 min. Tuesdays"
Ooh nice lil' baggy. I've got some extra stuff you could consider throwing in: - reusable zip ties instead of single use ones. It makes fixing stuff on temporarily way easier. -Unlubricated condom. I know, I know, but it really has a lot of uses in an emergency situation. - An old SD card. You probably have one lying around. It can't hurt. -USB condom/sanitizer. Basically a small usb passthrough that physically disables data pins, so that you can safely charge from sketchy usb outlets, when no regular outlets are available
Great video again Peter. I’m amazed you don’t keep a needle and thread in there as well as I have had multiple times someone tear off a button or something during a shoot and it needing to be repaired and no one having a needle and thread. I keep white/black thread as those two colours can usually be used in any circumstance and be hidden
I just LOVE this video, love bags, love pockets(who doesn’t?!), love weird things that you always need but never bring with you, love all of your work but i especially absolutely LOVE how you made everyone of us so excited for 03.33.05sec until you reveal this LEGEND bag(made me smile soooo much, actually a big weird laugh by myself alone by the computer...), LOVE IT! Very nice EDC kit. I've carried the same Maxpedition bag for years, and I'm made fun of by my family until they need one of those items, then I'm the hero of the vacation. I carry almost all of the same items with the exception of the cash. Very good idea, I'll be adding a 50$ bill to my kit. I even have the crazy glue, which came in handy once for an emergency eyeglass repair. Thanks for all the great videos.

I laughed out loud with your intro
Amazing video
I am missing the swiss army knife. @Peter McKinnon, do I need to send you one?
Love 15 minutes tuesday, always some class tips from you Peter!
Throw a CFast or SD card in there and you're set!
One of the reasons I got this pouch, Ive gone to a shoot and stupidly rushed out the door and been like duuuuuude no CF or SD card! NOW SOLVED

that is a stupid genius idea !
At 6:36 you should've said "I'm Canadian, leaf me alone".
That would've been an amazing pun haha.
You should have people submit their own raw photos for you to edit to show the potential in an “average” photo.
Also love the content dude!

for the lens filter try using a rubber band and then twisting it off, helped me out

Paracord can always be a makeshift 'tripod'. Attach one end to camera, rest on floor and step on it keeping line taut. Ok, ... so not exactly a tripod, but helps stabilising camera.
