  • Ford Oval of Honor interview with Gary Bussell, a Vietnam War veteran who served in the United States Army National Guard.
    This collection contains oral history videos and transcripts for interviews with local World War II, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and Iraq War veterans between 2013 and 2016. The interviews were conducted by Chris Reidy of WIPB-TV as part of its Oval of Honor award series sponsored by the Ford Motor Company. Also included are annual Ford Oval of Honor programs about the award recipients for 2013-2015.

    I worked with Gary Bussell for a time. Nice man. I am glad I met him. He's the same on here as in person.

    Their is nothing like listening to people who have been there and done that very humble people these veterans are when they palse you can see in their eyes they are right back there great interview

    I’m a fellow National guardsmen different generation. Very good interview Illinois Army National Guard. My unit was actually called up during this time.

    Regular Army units called these guys "week end warriors". They got no respect from us. They joined the National Guard to avoid going to Vietnam. Low and behold some of them went anyway. Good on ya. All gave some, some gave all. The whole thing sucked for everybody there. In their eyes they were all hero's? Same deal with draftees. In the end we were all there together. Welcome home.

    New Castle.eh? I was bone in Ft Wayne 1951.
