To all you supposed avid cyclists that are criticizing Elis Ligtlee for her weight, you don't understand the physiological demand of track cycling sprinters, which are different from most other forms of competitive cycling. It is a power sport, not power to weight. She isn't a very fast runner, sure, but in her area of expertise, she is a champion, and so much faster than her road cycling counterparts in a flat 500m. Don't make the mistake of equating fitness with a specific body type, and don't be an insecure shaming prick just because she is heavier than a road cyclist.
Right and these are two women... top discus, shot-put and Javelin throwers, top Decathletes and Daphne Schippers aren't "lean". Athletes' bodies are a 'Form meets Function' equation and clearly her body/Form is perfect for what she does/Function.
For sure the long distance runner would win. I mean, if you put a 100/200mt sprinter vs a 10k or half-marathon, the long distance will still be fast in sprinting but the sprinter won't be fast at 10k. It is a much different effort than this comparison that's based on power, not power and endurance.
It made my feet hurt when the cyclist sprinted the first time while practicing a heel running technique. It's natural to heel run for most people but it hurts a lot in spikes.
Tbh you dont have to hit the gym to get those arms. I got arms like that and even bigger by just doing pushups and pullups in my house.(pushups, pullups, tricep dips, and more)
if any of you want to attempt beat Elis Ligtlee's speed at your local velodrome, you must be able to hold 39.1 miles per hour for 200 meters. good luck with that, buddy.
It's not so unlikely. I bet a good number of Cat 1 and above amateur men have a good shot. It takes something like 850 W for 10 s plus run up which isn't really all that crazy. For reference Francois Pervis averages 48 mph over 200 m and 39 mph over 1km.
I beat her time easily as an elite track sprinter and I can still beat her time as a Cat 1 roady... That is not the issue. The issue is people thinking they can do better when they have not ridden on a velodrome... like Paul... It is not easy to sprint on a track. But please do try!
@@OneDerscoreOneder That hasn't been the case for quite some time now. I mean, they don't get a cash price from the Olympic Committee, but many certainly do get money from other events, a salary from their team, money from sponsorships and bonuses for doing well in the Olympics.
@ I reckon the issue is simply that she isn't driving hard enough with her legs, ie she needs to run faster. When you run fast actually pulling the ground under you with your feet, even in normal shoes, you end up very much on your forefoot. The cyclist is both going really slow and has terrible technique / posture. She should be standing more upright, and her trailing femur should be going way beyond being in line with her torso. She barely even manages to extend her hip. She is more like doing a burglars tip toe. Like if she was trying to run without making a sound.
Some of you people out here need to get off your high horse before you continue to bash the abilities and figures of these two athletes. It’s not fair to criticize the other for not performing as well as a seasoned athlete in a discipline THEY AREN’T FAMILIAR WITH. Secondly, just because the cyclist has more body weight doesn’t mean she’s not as “fit” as the runner or athletes in general. The bodily characteristics that are found in different disciplines vary greatly, the societal standard of “thin=better athlete” is absurd. Let’s appreciate that these two women were kind enough to take the time to make this video, because I personally enjoy this series. Hopefully more people start to think before criticizing these two hard-working athletes. Much love❤️
Tristam Usain bolt has a 6.31 in his 100 wr and mind that he is likely in last after in 60 metres in almost every pro race he ran. A 100 metre time has significance, I know 8th graders who beat asafa powells time in the olympic finals in London. Please understand that they are both remarkable.
So amazing that they're both only 22. What incredible accomplishments they've achieved in barely two decades. It's so impressive and humbling to watch two athletes of this level try the others sport and recognize the difficulties in each.
With the speed of sound, being 60 metres away... Naomi was starting the stopwatch right when she says "go" so Elis was running under 10 seconds already
This was very enjoyable. With track being the only sporting event I still watch, it was interesting watching the athletes learn techniques to help them excel in other sports and learn how challenging it was until they received guidance. It was still hard, but they could push themselves harder. A great way to help build respect among the ranks. (Because, 'until you have walked a mile in each others shoes you don't know how challenging it really is'!)
Any English speakers from the Netherlands here? Is the way she says "three and a half on the other side" at 6:20 a common pronunciation in Dutch English speakers? It almost sounded like she switched to an Irish English accent, very interesting!
Dutch athletes are just a beauty to watch male female win no win the way they are built is just dope and their tan skin and that orange dress code just make it more doper
So interesting! I thought the leg muscles in running would help in biking more, and vice versa. I also think bc these are highly trained athletes, their skillset is very very focused and honed in, so trying to learn something new and in different forms can be challenging
Shows how vastly different these sports are, really interesting! Makes a lot of sense as in cycling, you can increase the resistance by pushing a bigger gear, in sprinting though, you need agility and springiness because you can't do that.
The video is nice but I'd like to see them to get a bit more used to both disciplines. The cyclist that's running still has poor technique (arms' movement is still bad and she's still hitting the ground with his whole foot and not with his forefoot. On the other side, the runner that's cycling is clearly limited by her fear to fall. Even with a far from perfect technique I am sure that she can be much faster than that.
Was just binge watching these video's while bored, how nice to see Elis Ligtlee! She's from the same town as I am. I got to play music when she toured the town after her return to the Netherlands! Definitely Eerbeeks biggest accomplishment!

They can obviously complete 2 miles. Those 60's and 100's are done at very high power output. On my track team EVERYONE does 3 mile warm ups and cool downs twice a week.
Aaron Davis Basketball does not utilize much strength for anything but drives and far shots. If you want to see a sport that utilizes strength wrestling is definitely the number one sport. Basketball is more agility. Football is strength for linemen and agility for the other players.
