  • While the DigiPi web-management interface will get you running in just a few seconds, let's take a look at some other changes we can make under the hood to customize your DigiPi just how you like it.

    I've been watching all these videos, awesome stuff. I will say that when I set this up to connect to a Digirig.....I used the 115200 buad rate with the usb mini to usb c cord I got....and it worked perfectly. Really like this setup as a way to interface to many different platforms.

    Thanks Craig for the video! Nice to learn some new tricks on the digipi. Would be nice to have in the initialize part the option to add a few extra optional apps. Have added gpredict to my setup but it took me some time to figure out where to make all the edits so that I can run gpredit the same way as js8call for example. A suggestion would be to add gpredict and other apps (e.g.qttermtcp) as optionals in the initialize section in case people want to have those as well 😉. Thanks again for all your hard work with this project, have been enjoying this a lot.

      Yah, i use gpredict on my pc, but not on the Pi... no real reason. I'll have to look at the memory footprint with gpredict. would you run it along side a satgate?

    Thanks, Craig. I've been thinking of using DigiPi to run a 30m APRS station with a (tr)uSDX in the field. At the moment, CAT and audio with this radio involves a horrible wire mess, unless you want to use a firmware beta and a driver written by Guido that wants to map to a specific fixed numbered port (no thanks). The way people like OH8STN do it is run CAT with the (tr)uSDX port and then run the audio through either the onboard soundcard or something like a Digirig. So you've got two USB connections to your computer; one for CAT, the other for audio. Messy, but it works and that's how I'll keep running it. Question for you: is it possible to hack the DigiPi to work with this messy interface to the radio?

    • @KM6LYW
      @KM6LYW  6 месяцев назад +2

      additional complexity points! :). DigiPi can be tweaked to do serial-port-RTS for PTT, which is what digirig uses. Cat control is another thing, which generally requires hamlib support. The next release of DigiPi will have an RTS/DTR option up front.

    • @dangermandave67
      @dangermandave67 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@KM6LYW yeah, (tr)uSDX is far from perfect, but if I just want to have a very lightweight 30m APRS solution to work alongside the main radio I use on SOTA activations, I think it will work. Add a RPi and a 10 inch Android tablet, and I think it's about all I'd need to send out a SOTA spot on 30m APRS in the event I couldn't hit a VHF digipeater. For that, RTS will work fine. If I want to use other digital modes, I'll probably have to have CAT control. So do you think having those separate USB cables coming in is going to present a problem for the DigiPi?

      Hey James, I would if I could, but I don't know how to dynamically generate PBEACONs in direwolf, with variable data. I wonder if that's a feature? I never saw it in the direwolf docs. I think we'd need to hand-craft an aprs packet, then send it to direwolf using kissutil for transmission.
