Hello from Sherwood Park Alberta Canada. I started with horses and farming early,, but life pulled me away. I was lucky enough to fly in a CH136 Kiowa for 7 years so your channel is familure. I enjoy your content and will be a subscriber from now on. Thank you. David Cartwright
Excellent video! How meticulous the farrier is about his work is impressive. The rig is so organized and clean. This is type of farrier you want, one that puts that extra care into all aspects of the job. Thank you for sharing.
I like Cody's style.👍He not only does good work, but he talks to the animal and actually pets them (something I've never seen in a majority of farriers I've observed). And as for people watching an hour of horseshoeing? Yeah, I frequent S&S Horseshoeing here on YT and I ain't the only one LOL! His truck and a lot of his gear looks brand spankin' new and that tells me one thing...homie has been busting his ass to pay for it. Good on him, she's a beauty! I doubt my editing style would be his cup of tea but I would bet there are plenty of people here on YT who would be glad of an opportunity to help out should he choose to pursue a channel about his shoeing. Always a pleasure to stop by the Ranch, Jason. Thanks for inviting us in!
Good watching a capable farrier! I got cold when you gave the weather report. Nasty weather 🌡️. I grew up riding great cowhorses that wore 00 all around. Blessed childhood indeed! Hope Bonnie is healing well. Continued prayers for healing 🙏🙏🙏. God Bless Y'all 🙏🙏🙏
Looks like the Shoer that used to do the horses at Michael Byatt Arabians place. He had a rig just like that. Sure looks like him. He was just one of several farriers we used. The show horses had their farrier, the mares and pasture hoses had a couple of them, the young horses had their farrier.... seems like I was holding horses every week as they worked their way through the herd. Stay warm y’all. It’s been cold here along the border but not as cold as what y’all have there. Highs in the low eighties and lows in the low 60’s here this week. Gorgeous for sitting outside around the fire at night. It’s been really busy here on the ranch. All kinds of babies coming and trying to get stuff done before the heat of the summer slows things down. Hope Bonnie’s continuing to recover. Prayers for ya Bonnie
Aanii (hello in Ojibwe) from Ontario ❤️🇨🇦❤️ that was cool to watch shoeing done start to finish, I've never seen it. That job has got to be hard on the body. Miigwetch for another informative video Jason, much appreciated
Enjoyed this video Jason. Brings back memories of holding horses for farrier. Had a barn full of Friesians. Seems we had horses needing shoes all the time. Miss those days
Thanks Jason. My farrier charges $40 for a full set trim. $100 for full set trim with rear shoes. Farriers are aways late. I thank God for these guys because that is some tough ass backbreaking work. I would like to see the trim on your draft horses.
I want to know where to get Cody's rig ??? Real sweet set up Cody... and you are correct - every day with a horse on ground or on their back is a constant learning experience that s for sure
we went nail less about 2 years ago, even in the winter, seems to be working well, less problems. The man is a professional when his gear looks like that and his tools are in order
Just a little story! Don Haskins. Tucumcari NM. My Dad worked for Marvin Cantrell in Nara Visa NM. Home of Rodeo Jack!! My Don pulled up helped him unload trunk of a car! An I thought this is the farrier?? Never question just watch an learn. Me a young gal of 15 who dipped copenhagen same as Don. My job catch an hold 12- 2 yr olds! For the farrier! Who dipped all my snuff that day!! An taught me a valuable lesson. If that horses don't stand spit in it's eye give um something else to think about. I got blamed for that to the boss man for watery eyes. Lesson learned an MR. Baskins trust I took my ass chewing. An that night at the supper table he fessed up they knew it was not me. What a laugh we had!!! An I married a Canadian Tx gent. No longer together but we have beautiful daughters an grandsons.
I trim my own and let me tell you it is back breaking work! The one thing I have learned to do to make it much easier on my body is to give the horse 10-11 cc of banamine orally about 45 minutes before trimming, irregardless of whether I think the horse needs a painkiller or not. It has made a HUGE difference in how much less they wiggle and want to put their foot down, which saves my body at least half the work. Much respect to Cody on doing such a tough job. Us Americans really need to look into those squeeze chutes and power tools they use in Europe to trim. We are behind in that area.
I’m no expert. I’ve tried my hand at putting a couple sets on. In my inexperienced opinion I thought he did a good job ! Seams to have a good personality and handled the horse well. I would use him if he was in my area. Thanks for video!
I noticed that horse was giving the farrier a hard time and no one was asking him to stop jerking. All of my horses test me like that and I ask them to stop jerking by using a chin chain with a light rope with a loop in that I put my arm through. Then I can jerk the chain lightly at the exact moment to let them know I want them to stop jerking
Paisano's Roost Farm (American Blackbelly Sheep) in Southern New Mexico: When I was in college at Texas A&I, I had to write a paper in Dr. Joe S. Graham's Ranching class. I followed farrier Felix Silguero (Kineno RIP 2012) around for 36 hours. Dr. Graham was a little surprised when I turned in an paper on Texas barrier island ranch with an airstrip on it (dignitaries go bird hunting there) that no one had been able to get permission to visit. I had the uncanny ability to get into some interesting places in college.
I remember renting a horse and I didn't know anything about riding it. as soon as it got in the field I was told not let it eat, it cared about nothing less. A young lady told me to grab a branch of a tree and spank it. Didn't have the nerve. bad horse ride, period. Once back to the corral I noticed a man from Texas wanting to ride a horse. She said she only had a hard mature hard horse to ride. He said that's fine, I know how to ride. He bossed that horse like a Texan.
That shits a damn job.. I believe Ida stuck with day working and shoeing on the side.. it's hard enough to just trim much less the shoeing part .. better be short and stout too.. tall people don't fair as well under a horse .
Most people see a horse and they all look the same. Not to a cowboy. They distinguish horses like people. Very smart animal people. Thier living depends on it.
Agreed, and trim correctly. At least learn how to rasp to keep the foot balanced and remove flares in between farrier visits. A bad trim will ruin a foot just as fast as no trim. Also, trim every 5-6 weeks, not the standard 8. 😊

Thanks for watching and subbing!
It's really nice to see a young man doing this kind of work. The finished product really looks professional.

Thankyou! ALL your videos are so interesting 😁😁😁
I enjoy watching farriers work.
Good Farriers are hard working, intelligent, artisan, craftsman, and part veterinarian. Great video!
Yes!
The hot fit tongs seem to be working nicely. Hope that y’all are doing well.
Happy trails, Troy Ehrmantraut
More ranch more daily life on the ranch. I go back and rewatch all the vids.
This time of year things just look diffrent on a nice ranch.

Great job Cody !
Hope Bonnie is doing better, enjoyed the video !🙏
that guy is an artist, a hard working one at that.
Cody certainly knows what he is doing. It was interesting to watch the whole process. Thanks for showing us. I always appreciate your videos.
Excellent video. As a retired farrier here in the UK I realy enjoyed watching your guy at work, he is a real professional.
That’s cool. Jason Eicke and family have been friends from when we all were at the Bell.

Thanks for the video. Much respect for a shoer. Looks like a lot a damn back breaking work. Amazing what goes into a running a ranch.
Wow, that was very interesting. Enjoyed it. Keep this stuff coming 👍
Never seen this done, loved it!
Enjoyed this video Jason. Brings back memories of holding horses for farrier. Had a barn full of Friesians. Seems we had horses needing shoes all the time. Miss those days
That is some rig 😮 We need an update on Miss Bonnie pretty soon 🙏🏻 Thanks for another great video Jason 👏👏👏
Nice work - just couldn’t believe he was in tennis shoes! Brave farrier! 🤣
You're obviously a good horseman.
Your farrier has a nice rig and I bet he enjoyed shoeing in your barn….thanks for the video, I enjoyed it👍🏼🤠👍🏼
Awesome video..
Great video as always Bud. 45 minutes late but at least he showed up. That’s the main problem these days. Keep up the great work work.
Every dog loves those trimmings!!!

Horse seemed patient considering
Great farrier. Great video.
Interesting video
I thought I was the only one that got them horses that want to dance while you're nailing.

Hey, my nephew is certified farrier. It’s hard work and when you find one good…KEEP HIM.

Fascinating hoof shoeing video. I wonder if Cody’s back is a little sore by the end of a busy day. How about a Bonnie update next week?
Another great one
Like I was always told the last one on the right is always a fight. Farrier set ups have come a long way.
Great shoer quick and efficient.
GREAT VIDEO! WISH WE COULD GET MORE THAN ONE A WEEK.
Horses are no joke.

Come to northern Alberta was -38 here today!
Looks good to me
My Dogs see that farrier, it's like the candy man has arrived.

That’s a sweet looking rig! Love the shoeing video. Have came up with a name on the colt. If not “Rubys Little Gun”
That man's back muscles must be enormous. Hurts me just watching... 😂
Awesome and informative video! How many acres is the Mendota Ranch? Farrier looks top notch!!
Reminds me of High School only time I got to use a forge and anvil.
Cool u hire out for shoeing,, nice rig,,, thought u have your own farriers,,,

As hands on as you are im surprised you're not a farrier
I expect he could do that as well if he wanted. !
Morning

How does one approach riding a horse?
Farrier time is the same here in the UK. Must be the first thing they learn. 🤣🤣🤣
I remember renting a horse and I didn't know anything about riding it. as soon as it got in the field I was told not let it eat, it cared about nothing less. They used to use pigs urine to de-ice runways, high Urea content.
Well what I seen. You was pretty damn good . What's your honest opinion?
That shits a damn job.. I believe Ida stuck with day working and shoeing on the side.. it's hard enough to just trim much less the shoeing part .. better be short and stout too.. tall people don't fair as well under a horse .
I would keep him. The horses hooves still look too long. Her hooves don't grow right.
I only pay forty for a trim. eighty for a full set.
Isn’t he the farrier for farm on route 66
A good farrier woulda had to borrow a rasp
Most people see a horse and they all look the same. Not to a cowboy. They distinguish horses like people. Very smart animal people. Thier living depends on it.
my dogs go crazy when the ferriere shows up, and they shit horse feet for a week!!
We're located? Nice barn. Let's just all mind our own business and buy some oats for your swayback
So u know everything about hoof,, u test your farrier ??
I do I just don’t like to bend over all day
@@themendotaranch hahaha
@@themendotaranch dang, sorry,, guess was I ask about you farrier, went out,, thought just asking u
Their big and can be very dangerous if you don't know anything about them.
I hate spell check. Glad my horses an dogs don't correct me!! Lol
Iv never shoed a horse but I bet I can do better!!! 😂😂😂 jk. Cool video 👍🏽
I believe any one that own equines should at less learn how to trim.
Agreed, and trim correctly. At least learn how to rasp to keep the foot balanced and remove flares in between farrier visits. A bad trim will ruin a foot just as fast as no trim. Also, trim every 5-6 weeks, not the standard 8. 😊
