I love how you explain things. Straight and to the point. I usually pasture bred my mares when I had them. Quit 15 years ago….. when I was young we either hauled the mares to the stud or the stud to the mares occasionally. That’s when we were shooting blind on heat by the calendar. So much less stressful, better results now. Sure got sick of all the miles, time and work it was just to haul. Thank you. I’d sure like to look at your mares in person. Dr. Greg V. He taught me a lot. He did tell me he never saw me bring a sorry horse or mare up there. Made me feel good. 🙂
Thank you for that explanation about breeding during foal heat. I just had my only mare bred by (AI) to a stud out of Tx. My vet has taught me so much about AI. I planned on breeding her back after foaling next year. She was an older maiden mare with just enough time left for a quality foal or two before it was too late. Actually take her back this week to preg check. Sure hoping it worked out as I had a missed shipment of semen by the shipping company with white trucks and purple logos. They suck. They cost me a lot of money wasted that I’ll probably never get back.
Do you run the mares as a lot of people do with the stallion as he would instinctively breed them at the right time . or maybe you have a reason for not wanting to do so

Quick question. Since you deal with clone stallions and already know their proven linage, do you even bother with training them or just get them halter/handling broke to use only for collection? My husband and I breed/train reiners but never used any clones. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you for covering this topic. Once the mare has been bred, have you ever found an ectopic pregnancy when you are using the ultrasound to check them? If so, what would you do?
Safer for the mare and stallion...maybe not for the people, but if they know what they're doing and have experience, then they also know how to keep themselves as safe as possible.
More chance of injury to both mare and stud when they naturally breed plus you only know a window of when she got bred. Doing it artificially gives you a much more accurate foaling date and shows you any reasons you might need to hold off such as infection in the uterus, holding a follicle, etc. Also, way cleaner so less likely for infections. Yes, collection can be dangerous, but that is why you need to teach your stud manners and have a good handler. Experience keeps you safer and I am sure Jason has done this a million times by now. When I learned at Colorado State they had us wear a helmet and had a person behind us to yank us out of the way in case something went sideways. They said some folks got knocked in the noggin by a front hoof as the stud came off because they didn't know when to move out of the way. 😳 It is a bit of an adrenaline rush for sure. 😜

What brand of ultra sound you use for cows and horses?
Why don't you let them do it naturally?? Or is doing it this way have better results??

Yes. They also respond to the dummy well when a mare is present.
