    Oh wow. I think keeping the rear brake locked on impact was the thing my technique is missing. Very Useful tutorial, Ali!
    Adding to the 'start small': Even if your drop technique is controlled, don't take it to 2+ meters right away. A slightly mistimed landing can put big strain on your lower back, so you can end up injuring your back if the muscles there aren't strong enough yet. At least that's what happened to me when I started riding trials.

    Are you aware of how you use your stomach muscles on landings, or for that matter on bunny hops? A trials rider once told me that a bunny hop starts with a powerful push from the abdomen and I've under understood what that meant. It is possible to lift the front wheel without using the arms to lift relative to your center, by focusing on bringing your stomach in and back; this probably causes you to push down and forward into the pedals.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 года назад +1

      No, I’m not thinking about my stomach at all so can’t help you there I’m afraid

    Excellent tutorial Ali! Your tutorials always have really good explanations and demonstrations. I just wish you would knock off the music. It's distracting and washing out your gentle voice. Why not let your viewers decide if they want to have background music. It's a tutorial so can't really be muted...

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 года назад

      Thanks, as for the music...I make videos to please others but I also make videos to please me and I personally much prefer a background track, especially with clips with no audio. I thought the sound levels were ok...I actually reduced the music audio a couple of decibels and increased my voiceover just before exporting just to be on the safe side. I’m taking notes but also remember that I can’t please ask the people all the time. I do appreciate the feedback though so don’t feel I’m just ignoring it

    i wonder if un-tucking just before impact helps because pushing the bike away is slowing your bodies momentum slightly

    • @lonoreturns
      @lonoreturns 3 года назад +2

      Untucking or stretching your legs out is what absorbs the impact. Do it at the right time and you smooth out the landing. Look at skaters ollieing huge gaps.
      No amount of pushing down on a bike whilst in the air will slow down the speed that your body drops at.

    • @pympin87
      @pympin87 3 года назад +1

      @@lonoreturns then why does it make a difference to do it late instead of right away on bigger drops as it sounds like ali is saying

    • @lonoreturns
      @lonoreturns 3 года назад

      @@pympin87 don't do this...but, imagine just stepping off that big wall and keeping your body straight. No way you are walking away without injury.
      Crouch down lean forward and push off a bit then extend your legs. Do this right and your head is probably now at the height your feet used the be at and your feet are 5 feet below ready to soak up a 4 foot drop.
      Hard to explain. Look for massive back flip drops on youtube. They fall back then flip over therfore making the drop smaller.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 года назад

      I think it’s more to do with how well your body copes with impacts rather than actually physically reducing the impact itself. Just think how much more force you can put into a punch if you extend your arm just before the impact rather than swinging with a straight arm... same thing applies here

    • @pympin87
      @pympin87 3 года назад

      @@Ali_Clarkson i was just thinking of the old ... every action has an equal and opposite reaction ... as much force you use to push the bike away is also pushing you up away from the bike ... tho the effect is probably tiny because of the weight difference between you and the bike

    hey Ali! i just saw this listing on fb market place and it looked like an old trials bike frame that has been modified to have a seat post. Seller says it's a gt mountain bike frame but isn't sure about the details since he bought it 2nd hand. Is there anyone who can help me figure this out since it's selling for really cheap (PHP1,200/25USD). If ever it is a modified trials bike, I plan on just cutting off the modified seatpost and rebuilding the thing.

      I actually don’t know, I haven’t measured ones when out riding but too be honest I don’t usually seek out huge drops when riding as the risk-reward usually isn’t worth it (unless it’s a great line worthy of an edit)...I’d say the drop I do in the Drop And Roll shows is up there with my highest at over 11ft, I think it’s possible to add a few more ft to that and still be ok but for daily shows that’s as high as I’m comfortable to do regularly
