Zappe played at a D2 school for three years, had one year at C-USA Western Kentucky and broke all NCAA passing records with over 6000 yards and 60+ TDs, had three 1000 yard receivers. He may not have the prestige of Mac Jones but he’s worked insanely hard and grinded out to get to the NFL, dude is a DAWG

Ive been inside the New England Hall of Fame and there is a TON of this kind of stuff from gronk, brady and edlemen all the way back to the Grogan days. The place is massive so no doubt they need room to fill it up with this kind of stuff. Ya never know how it looks if Zappe pans out. Shoot Mac might not even have stuff inside the fame, although im 99% sure these something of his in there.

As Patriots fan, after winning 2 games in a row, and still being last in our division, I say there would be no downsides whatsoever to keeping zappe in. On the flipside, I can think of multiple negatives to bringing jones back.

If I am on the show, I say PMS needs to make their own version of quarterback points. It would be a great addition to the show each week and I think it holds a lot of potential for them to clown on ESPN some more for their version of rating plays for quarterbacks. Someone get this idea to the guys.

as a Pats fan, through and through, I'd stick with Zappe. sure the capital we used for Mac was high for someone to lose their job in 2 seasons but Zappe makes the reads better, doesn't turn the ball over, and honestly just looks more NFL ready now than Mac has so far in 2 seasons. He was not bad in college, almost made the very rare 6000 yards, he had the most passes but was top 10 in completion percentage, was 15 TD above anyone, he is not Wentz div 2 but is a lower div 1 conference. He did get drafted in starting QB range round 3, but why didn't someone pick him up in the 2nd round or before some of the other stiffs in round 3.

Passer rating is a mathematical formula based on pass attempts, completions, yards, TDs, and INTs. If you know all of these stats for any given QB in a game, you can calculate their passer rating.
Not throwing shade cuz I had no clue either. But, I was surprised when none of them knew what goes in Passer Rating and QBR calculations or even the difference. Anyone else?

Passer rating is an okay but ultimately archaic stat. QBR is not something easily calculable but far superior. It doesn't ding a QB heavily for a smart move like throwing the ball away when no one is open, and it takes into account how a QB played in higher pressure situations like when the game is close, and in the 4th. Oh and 50 is supposed to be average.
Zappe should be the starter. No question. Big Mac is a burger now :(

When Pat mentions that Brady probably did something like this first... Brady didn't start any games his rookie year. He only appeared in a game once for like 5 plays.

@@FlpDScrp I wouldn't even say it would be against those 2 teams, but its kind of like a rookie baseball pitcher in the 1st half of the season. Nobody has film on him yet, so he can kinda do whatever, and get away with it. Once scouting departments, coaches, all the team analysts get a hold of your film, and study it for hours on end... can Zappe stay at that high level?
There's always a new pitcher in the MLB that crushes it til July, and then isn't as hot from August on. Same thing for rookie NFL QBs after about 2 or 3 games.

We live in an age where film/data is rampant. Baseball started it 20 years ago with "Moneyball" and it took other sports to catch on, but its everywhere now. Its cheaper to pay a few data analysts each $150k/year, who will study film for 50 hours/week, than 1 NFL player. And the return data analysts can provide is boosting the whole team's ability/skill. (Have a friend who works for major team in one of those roles).

I have not seen enough Zappe to say he is the QB for the future of the Pats, but I have seen enough to say that if he is backing up Mac or the other way around, the Pats will have the strongest depth at QB. With both fitting extremely well into the scheme at hand.
I find it pretty odd that none of these guys were even close to knowing the difference between ESPN's QBR and passer rating which as been around forever.

There are only 3 former players, 2 played defense and one was a punter/kicker. I’m floored you would think any of them would know that
Lets' just see how they fare against each other at the end of the season, when the Pats' sched is actually on hard mode. Not that we expect to see the two QBs going head-to-head at the end of the season, but really, we need to see some higher stress situations for a good comparison. But in all honesty, if the Pats are winning, I don't really care if Charlie Brown is our QB. A win is a win in my book.

i’ve said this when NE drafted him 5 months back: Mac Jones gets injured Zappe starts. Zappe performs and jones is good to come back but Bill B sticks with Zappe all the way until the AFC Championship game and Zappe get hurts that game for Jones to play that game and win it. just for Zappe to start the super bowl and win it for Patriots it’ll be poetic if this happens.

Tom Brady did _not_ win his first two starts, by the way. He lost his second start, which was against the Dolphins. Brady went 12 for 24, threw for 86 yards and a rating of 58.7 in the game.
