9:12 - 9:48 It honestly surprises me that even Mortius didn't put it together, but what makes this scene even funnier for me is the fact that Athena _for sure_ knew Odysseus couldn't see her, but went along with it anyway. As the Goddess of Wisdom (and War), she _would_ know that he was bluffing, you are completely right. The reason why she goes along with it is because she wants to _encourage_ this type of thinking in Odysseus, as she's already considering becoming his mentor. Plus letting a mortal think they've tricked you is funny as fuck. All in all, this whole conversation was just Odysseus showcasing his potential, and Athena liking what she sees, in a very playful manner. It's also interesting to think about the fact that this is the origin of one of the oldest tricks in the book: "I know you did this."/"Who told you?!"/"You, just now :)" It's a clever bluff that has stood the test of time. Again, makes it even funnier that it was a double bluff.
Especially since there are plenty of people with the same names (eg, 2 Ajaxes in the Trojan War, both are Kings from completely different lineages in different lands, and 3 Queen Cassiopeias related to Zeus in one way or another). Announcing your country of origin is just... stupid. He could say 'My name is Odysseus' and that would probably be fine. There were probably 20 Odysseuses running around Greece.
(IIRC, the owl is actually considered as a wise bird to a significant extent because the owl was the bird associated with Athena, not the other way around. She was often illustrated with an owl with her - specifically, a Little Owl, I think, which is cute).
Which it’s ironic owls are supposedly aligned with wisdom. Unfortunately due to the size of their eyes owls had to sacrifice brain space. So they’re actually one of the least intelligent and wise birds of prey groups. When I worked with birds of prey you had to do the exact same thing with the owls every single day otherwise they would forget the routine and even not recognize you. So sometimes they would act aggressive or do dumb things that could have otherwise been avoided.
Personally, when it comes to Athena being bluffed, I think she's LETTING him bluff her, since the sort of 'woosh woosh woosh' sound effect means she's already using her Quick Thought ability, and we hear the sound as Odysseus is saying 'show yourself.' She just respects that he thought to try it, so she let him have the win.
Quick thought is represented by clock ticking, the woosh sound is used for when she's undercover (I forgot how is that ability called, but Jay talks about this second ability in one of his videos) EDIT: I spend next hour searching for it but found it, the name of the second power is Projection, also aside from cloaking herself she can use it to project herself somewhere else
Exactly what I thought ! She was interested in him she thought of teaching him so she let him think that he had her to have a little connection ! For me it was too cute for her to do something like that, even with the name thing she handled him like she was treating a child .. i love their team and i miss them a lot together
@6:50 That's Autolycus!! A son of Hermes, and a bit of a trickster figure known for being a master of thievery. He's also Odysseus' maternal grandfather! Ody's father, King Laertes of Ithaca, is the fella' seen at 8:15 (you can also see his mother Anticlea speaking to her father,) and 11:37. (Also, if you look closely around 6:46 to when Autolycus appears, you can see Polites and Eurylochus there! They're a bit roughly drawn, so you'd be excused for not catching them immediately, hahah.) One of the real treats when it comes to Wolfy's animatics of EPIC, (aside from the incredible work they put into their art, of course,) is that they're BIG into the source material and mythology and use their knowledge of _The Iliad_ and _The Odyssey_ as written by Homer to sneak in little references like these for other mythology nerds to chew on. I really adore their work, and hope we see more from them eventually if they ever feel up to it again down the line.

In some accounts of the Trojan horse, Poseidon actually helped them succeed at bringing it into Troy by sending two serpents to kill a priest that had figured out it was a trick. So take that as you will. Gives an extra context to "I've been so gracious" on top of Odysseus and his crew not making a sacrifice to Poseidon before sailing home.

@@AshtailFoxclaw Just wondering, have you ever tried audiobooks? I used to love reading but after a severe illness caused some brain issues for me I wasn't able to handle it as well anymore. But I've found that if I listen to audiobooks while following along with a written book it's a lot easier. And for complicated works I look for ones that come with notes at the bottom of the page explaining what's going on. Don't know if any of that would be helpful for you, but if it is that might help you read the works around the Trojan war and the Odyssey. Also you can still find a lot of information about them even if you don't read any of the major works. The ones by Homer that are the original story are the Illiad and Odyssey. For supplemental things and the story of the Trojan horse itself there's also the Aenid by Virgil. All of those should have a lot of summaries and things like spark notes you could get more information from even if you don't read the works. Kind of like looking up summaries on a fandom wiki for a show.
One thing about warrior of the mind is the run. Athena just belt before she meets Odysseus, then she started do to the little run on the high notes. So, in the my good bye, her last high note is just a belt
With this animatic I love the use of murals and tapestries, tapestries specifically, because Athena was also the goddess of weaving and handicrafts. It would therefore make sense that a goddess associated with warriors and weaving would document the accomplishments of those she favors through Greek style tapestries that were used to document stories.
The old guy in the flashback is either Laertes, Odysseus' father, or perhaps Mentor, who was a friend to Odysseus in Ithaca, OR its his grandfather on his mother's side- hence the pointed elf ear- who was a son of Hermes. (The character named Mentor is where the modern day term comes from too!)
@@williama64 perhaps, or perhaps Mentor was already an older man. Intergenerational friendships are noted to be a common aspect of classical greek society, especially between men. However I do think i Wolfy's animatic, it's probably his maternal grandfather.
i believe Wolfy is referencing the original poem and the man who helps Odysseus is his maternal grandfather Autolcyus the story is something like Autolycus was asked to name Odysseus (side note his name means something like "to anger" or "to perish, or be lost") and promises him many treasures when he reaches manhood. its been a few years since i read the odyssey but i think he goes hunting with his uncles, not his grandfather, but theyre not named so im just assuming this is wolfys interpretation. sorry if this is wrong
Its obviously up to you two but if i could give my 2 cents i think it would be fun for you to continue act 2 together because you react in different ways and notice diffrent things (you two have the best vibes and compliment each other nicely)
11:05 - the stumble and the bandage are because the boar injures his leg, which I think is also why he gets carried to the wagon. That comes into play in The Odyssey, but I won't spoil how just in case it's also used in Epic (I don't know anything from Act 2 yet except God Games). It's a nice detail either way.
If you watch Jay recording “warrior of the mind”, he does the self high five thing. You’ll also notice a lot of the animations look like the voice actors.
Telemachus (Odysseus' son) is going to mean everything to you later on and fill that Polites shaped hole in your heart, trust brother. You will definitely give a crap.
The boar hunt scene is a reference to the Odyssey, where Odysseus received a scar from the boar on his knee, which would later play an important role in the Odyssey
11:05 I'm glad you noticed there being something wrong with Little Odysseus' leg here; it was wounded in the boar hunt. You can see it bleeding at 6:50 and that's the reason why Odysseus was being carried for the rest of that day in this animatic. He still has the scar in his adulthood, and it's actually visible in certain shots in Wolfy's other animatics. This is one of those reasons why I think Wolfy's animatics are really something special, because there is **so much** love of the source material on display in all their little details.
6:57 I don’t know if anyone has answered your question here yet, but Wolfy has been OBSESSED with the Odyssey and Odysseus’ life story and so included that in this part of the animatic, the man who puts him on the cart is his grandfather and the man who carries him into the gates is his father. Odysseus’ father went mad and died while Odysseus was young and he had a very close relationship with his grandfather
I love that in Greek mythology, the gods are not perfect beings... They make mistakes like humans. Athena falling for Odysseus' trick is a good way to show this (Btw i'm from Brazil and i'm loving your reactions)

In this song, Athena reminds Odysseus that when he makes decisions for his soldiers and enemies, he must be cold and logically directed towards the best solution to the problem, while Polites convinces him to look a little on the brighter side of the world around him, and then Odysseus begins to change a little, until the moment when his childhood friend is killed as well as several other soldiers. Odysseus has a great plan to escape, but leaves the enemy in this case the Cyclops alive, trying to be like his friend would be, but when Athena stops him saying that the enemy is still alive and he needs to "Finish it", because leaving someone of that nature can come back to bite him again, and Athena mentions Odysseus's dead friends to suggest that he needs to be cooler, in order to completely remove a very possible threat or consequence in the future, but Odysseus misunderstands this and becomes emotional, so he decides he does not want the Goddess to protect him, and he informs his enemy (who killed his childhood friend and many soldiers) who defeated him, and who punished him for his inhospitality, King of Ithaca Odysseus. Full of emotions of guilt and anger, Odysseus thinks that he has shown power, that he is better than his enemy because he did not take his life, but he just gave ammunition to the Cyclops to use in the future against our Odysseus.
As to how odysseus can trick Athena- I personally like to believe its the influence of his heritage. His great grandfather is Hermes who (while being a god of messangers, travel, and herding) is also a trickster god. Odysseus isn’t just wise because of Athena’s influence, he’s also clever and tricky because of his family background!
One of my favorite things about this song is how before meeting Odysseus Athena sings "Warrior of the mi~ind" as a single note belt, then when he joins her she holds the same note while he does the run. Then the next time they BOTH do the run. She *followed Odysseus' lead* which is crazy. Teaching him fundamentally changed an aspect of who she was. It just shows that even though Athena claims that their relationship is solely for getting her "perfect warrior," it's clearly more than that. Even if she refuses to admit it even to herself. (which is why when she sings it in "My Goodbye" she doesn't do the run the last time, because that was Odysseus' addition and she wants to be done with him)
another interesting part of this animation is the 'montage' you mentioned as well as the drawing infront of athena and odysseus when we arent in the flashback is (i think) supposed to represent tapestries! since athena also was the godess of weaving and ancient civilizations liked displaying historical moments in tapestries
Okay, if you're willing to check out/react to alternative animatics from the ones youve already seen, I HAVE to recommend that you xheck out Mircsy's version of 'My Goodbye'. Cause no lie, it was my favourite Epic Animatic EVER (until Gigi's most recent one but you should'nt worry about that right now💀). The visuals, the expressions, the story-telling-I don't know if you'll hate Athena any less by the end, but compared to the one you and Mortius reacted to (which is also great, all the love to Wolfy as well), it manages to humanize Athena in a way that we have yet to see any Deity being humanized in this Epic. So check it out, cause its totally awesome and you'll absolutely enjoy it!
Idk if someone already pointed this out, but the guy who gives young Ody a piggy back ride is Autolycus! He’s the son of Hermes and Odysseus’ maternal grandfather, as well as the person who named Odysseus in the first place. Odysseus’ father would be Laertes
The old man in the cart could be the great theif Autolycus, son of Hermes, and Odysseus grandfather on his mothers side. Ody is also given his name by his grandfather: "Since I have been angered (ὀδυσσάμενος odyssamenos) with many, both men and women, let the name of the child be Odysseus". So i guess Ody is named "One to be angry at" which seems very fitting ^^'
You cant hate ATHENA , her ways may be wrong and brute but she always wanted his best and made sure of that 🥺, you can’t compare gods emotions to humans ! Especially Athena she s destined to be alone even the way she was born made her what she is, and everything she said was true … i love polites but it was his fault odysseus spared the cyclops Ps : wolfy is my best of the best animators ! They re so realistic so mature , she follows the pace of the music and adds the most beautiful details
Wolfy is my favorite animator in this community, might not be as flashy as the others, but they have a really good grasp on the movement and composition, with a realy professional touch. everything is clear and easily readable. also they add a lot of detail from the odyssey, like him getting injured in the leg by that boar, and his father giving up the throne and retiring early. the tall old man with long hair is probably Autolycus, Odysseus' maternal grandfather (i believe the boar hunt took place in his land) and the shorter, wider man is Laertes, Odysseus' father.
so people have already pointed out that the man who gets him onto the cart is Autolycos (grandfather) and the man who carries him to the palace is Laërtes (father), but theres another little detail Wolfy adds in bc they're the nr. 1 Odysseus stan; in the mythos, Odysseus is wounded while fighting the boar. this is a chekov's gun; when Odysseus returns to Ithaca in disguise, his old nursemaid recognizes him by this wound (I dont think this really counts as a spoiler, esp since to my knowledge this detail is omitted in Epic)
So a little late but: Owls are considered wise *because* they are Athena's symbol, she is the origin of that symbology. Ody's dad is named Laertes... I'm like 90% sure he's dead before the Trojan War. It could have been Laertes though (since it was of course the past)... probably wasn't. Ody is also the Great Grandson of Hermes... so he may have inherited some of his Great Grandpa's trickster powers/skills.
You can really see just how manipulative Athena really is with this one. 'How I designed you' the way she send a deadly boar that literally killed a whole bunch of people (what does she care) just so a hero might rise up that she can train. The great symbolism of how Athena literally moves behind Odysseus' throne as if she is essentially controlling his every move. and then that Don't disappoint me! She is so cold and calculating and rational. It was always going to go wrong between her and Odysseus since while Odysseus is 'a warrior of the mind' he is also deeply emotionally and passionately connected with his humanity and the people he cares about which is something Athena cannot understand as a goddess.

Odysseus at one point did have a father, I assume he's dead, seeing as Odysseus is king of Ithaca. His mom isn't mentioned in "Full Speed Ahead", but she was waiting for him too, along with Ithaca and Penelope.
I love wolfy!! Theyve been my inspiration for super long and im sure the wall scene with the boar is inspired by the prince of egypt as i know they love thay movie too, wolfy actually got me into greek mythology even more than i was before and i love seeing all the actual greek mythology wolfy puts into their animatics!!! So yeah everything you see in their animatics usually keeps canon to the odyssey and other myths, but also theyve made many designs for many other figures in greek mythology that arent in the musical. Also they are in ithica, also the owl is athenas symbol, and aaalso please keep in mind if you something in an animatic thats not said in the songs can also be very much artistic liberty hih, even in the songs actually, polites is barely a character in the actual odyssey if i remember correctly, but we still obviously love him!! :D
There are so many other good animatics than what you have watched so far! Rochi’s The Horse and The Infant, Mircsy and Wolfy’s Just A Man, nearly all other Polyphemus animatics (they all have different styles and I adore them), Mircsy’s My Goodbye, Ximena’s Keep Your Friends Close, all the wip animatics… I disagree with some of Mortius’s choices, but they were generally the most popular ones I agree. Though can’t really blame anyone for having different favourites since the fandom work of this community is amazing in general

Disney's "Hercules" causes me pain just to think about because of how much they changed or got wrong. 🤣 My main complaint being that Hercules is the Roman equivalent, whereas the Greek version is Heracles, and yet they used the Greek pantheon. I can understand why they made it so that Hades was the one to send the snakes to kill him, because infidelity and a goddess trying to murder her half-son aren't Disney-friendly. In the actual story, it's a spiteful Hera that sends the snakes, because he wasn't a god who lost his godhood like in the film, he was a demigod. I do appreciate that the woman that found him in the film is actually named after his mother.

I guess this shouldn’t be a spoiler, since you’ve watched Warrior of the Mind twice now, but… When Athena uses her ability, Jorge himself coined the term “Quick Thought” for it, since; 1. Athena enters your MIND (hint hint) 2. It happens in a time bubble in your head (Quick. Gettit?) and- 3.It’s technically in said head, she can access said person’s memories, say for example, how she reminds Odysseus in this very video.
I'm pretty sure you know it by now but that "high-five" moment is straight up taken from behind-the-scenes of recordings. There are at least two clips of this moment of the song where Jay does this, so as far as visuals go it's almost canon :)
I hope you see Goodbye by Mircsy I think that animatic would tear your heart like it did for me. And I agree! I'm also annoyed at Athena for dissing our golden child Polites! 8:32 So first man is assumingely a mentor of some sort, the second man with the woman are assumingely the parents. Also! Most, if not all, major greek gods have a animal associated with them! So Zeus was the Eagle and Athena is the owl!
I'm going to try and mention other animatics for the first two sagas. ElliamArts has animatics for the entire Troy saga. For the Horse and the Infant there's Rochi and Pipdoodles. For Just a Man there's Mircsy's and Wolfy's, though you want to do the redone animatic by Wolfy. They weren't happy with the original. Rochi has a short animatic that starts from "When does a comet become a meteor". It's not the full song but i included it since it follows up their version of The Horse and the Infant. There's another Open Arms by Rosa Thompson that has less than 10k views. It's very much sketchy at parts and does cut off before the end of the song, but you can never go wrong with more Polites. Imbecileo also has a full open arms. Again, more Polites = good. Warrior of the Mind has an interesting one by Space Bar. They moved when it happens in the story for their animatic. For Polyphemus there's Wolfy, Ximena Natzel, Imbecileo, Arven, and Hana Al-Aride. That last one of them is a bit distressing for Polites fans so you can decide if you want that. Arven only has like 1000 views so hopefully more of the community goes and checks out that one. That's all the ones I know through the cyclops saga. I'm not sure which ones you did for the Ocean saga so as you put them out I'll try and recommend more. Thank you for the videos. It's been great seeing you react to this, and I'm glad to have found your channel. I hope you keep making videos with Mortius for act 2. You two have really good chemistry on camera and each add to the analysis. I at least would be fine watching both an individual reaction and a reaction with both of you, so whatever route you go I'll be here for it.
I'm just telling you, Athena really cares about Odysseus even though she said she doesn't. People judge Athena very harshly when she was realistically right XD Yes, it would be somewhat cruel to Odysseus, but she is a goddess, she is not supposed to understand human feelings, how long does a human live, 60 years (at that time( How long did she live? She doesn't understand feelings very well.

It isn't really clear who the older man is but there is a cut song called man of the house that talks about Odysseus' father and how Odysseus became king.
Actually, I don't know if Wolfy mentions it in that specific video, but that's Odysseus' maternal grandfather (and the younger, bigger guy is king Laertes, his father). They have their designs for Odysseus' family posted on their channel. Wolfy generally borrows from the actual mythology more than other animators do (the wound in Odysseus leg, for example, is an actual thing; as an adult, in the myth, he has a scar from when he hunted the magic boar).
Yup, he and eurylochus also appear in 6:46 (you can tell it's them because they have similar builds to their adult counterparts and if I'm not wrong Polites is the only male character in Epic Wolfy draws with curls like that)
Athena is the Goddess of wisdom, wisdom being battle knowledge Tbf I dont think the God thats known for dealing with old people will have experience with a mortal child lying to them often
I don’t think Odysseus tricked Athena. More that she was impressed he tried. Warrior of the mind and all that. Since she already had her eye on him after he killed her boar that could have been a second test too which he passed.
Okay, so pronunciation you are struggling with Circe is "Sir-see", its all soft c's, though if Epic was done up in greek it would be Kirki. so yeah, their name ends up pronounced both ways in different sources which can cause confusion. also Odyessues's son is named Telemecus (Tell-eh-meh-cuss) Regarding Woify's animatics, they are boss.

One of the real treats when it comes to Wolfy's animatics of EPIC, (aside from the incredible work they put into their art, of course,) is that they're BIG into the source material and mythology and use their knowledge of _The Iliad_ and _The Odyssey_ as written by Homer to sneak in little references like these for other mythology nerds to chew on. I really adore their work, and hope we see more from them eventually if they ever feel up to it again down the line.

In some accounts of the Trojan horse, Poseidon actually helped them succeed at bringing it into Troy by sending two serpents to kill a priest that had figured out it was a trick.
So take that as you will. Gives an extra context to "I've been so gracious" on top of Odysseus and his crew not making a sacrifice to Poseidon before sailing home.

@@AshtailFoxclaw Just wondering, have you ever tried audiobooks? I used to love reading but after a severe illness caused some brain issues for me I wasn't able to handle it as well anymore. But I've found that if I listen to audiobooks while following along with a written book it's a lot easier. And for complicated works I look for ones that come with notes at the bottom of the page explaining what's going on.
Don't know if any of that would be helpful for you, but if it is that might help you read the works around the Trojan war and the Odyssey.
Also you can still find a lot of information about them even if you don't read any of the major works. The ones by Homer that are the original story are the Illiad and Odyssey. For supplemental things and the story of the Trojan horse itself there's also the Aenid by Virgil.
All of those should have a lot of summaries and things like spark notes you could get more information from even if you don't read the works. Kind of like looking up summaries on a fandom wiki for a show.
One thing about warrior of the mind is the run. Athena just belt before she meets Odysseus, then she started do to the little run on the high notes. So, in the my good bye, her last high note is just a belt

With this animatic I love the use of murals and tapestries, tapestries specifically, because Athena was also the goddess of weaving and handicrafts. It would therefore make sense that a goddess associated with warriors and weaving would document the accomplishments of those she favors through Greek style tapestries that were used to document stories.
The old guy in the flashback is either Laertes, Odysseus' father, or perhaps Mentor, who was a friend to Odysseus in Ithaca, OR its his grandfather on his mother's side- hence the pointed elf ear- who was a son of Hermes. (The character named Mentor is where the modern day term comes from too!)

the story is something like Autolycus was asked to name Odysseus (side note his name means something like "to anger" or "to perish, or be lost") and promises him many treasures when he reaches manhood. its been a few years since i read the odyssey but i think he goes hunting with his uncles, not his grandfather, but theyre not named so im just assuming this is wolfys interpretation. sorry if this is wrong

11:05 - the stumble and the bandage are because the boar injures his leg, which I think is also why he gets carried to the wagon. That comes into play in The Odyssey, but I won't spoil how just in case it's also used in Epic (I don't know anything from Act 2 yet except God Games). It's a nice detail either way.
If you watch Jay recording “warrior of the mind”, he does the self high five thing. You’ll also notice a lot of the animations look like the voice actors.
Telemachus (Odysseus' son) is going to mean everything to you later on and fill that Polites shaped hole in your heart, trust brother. You will definitely give a crap.

The boar hunt scene is a reference to the Odyssey, where Odysseus received a scar from the boar on his knee, which would later play an important role in the Odyssey
11:05 I'm glad you noticed there being something wrong with Little Odysseus' leg here; it was wounded in the boar hunt. You can see it bleeding at 6:50 and that's the reason why Odysseus was being carried for the rest of that day in this animatic. He still has the scar in his adulthood, and it's actually visible in certain shots in Wolfy's other animatics. This is one of those reasons why I think Wolfy's animatics are really something special, because there is **so much** love of the source material on display in all their little details.
6:57 I don’t know if anyone has answered your question here yet, but Wolfy has been OBSESSED with the Odyssey and Odysseus’ life story and so included that in this part of the animatic, the man who puts him on the cart is his grandfather and the man who carries him into the gates is his father. Odysseus’ father went mad and died while Odysseus was young and he had a very close relationship with his grandfather
I love that in Greek mythology, the gods are not perfect beings... They make mistakes like humans. Athena falling for Odysseus' trick is a good way to show this

In this song, Athena reminds Odysseus that when he makes decisions for his soldiers and enemies, he must be cold and logically directed towards the best solution to the problem, while Polites convinces him to look a little on the brighter side of the world around him, and then Odysseus begins to change a little, until the moment when his childhood friend is killed as well as several other soldiers.
Odysseus has a great plan to escape, but leaves the enemy in this case the Cyclops alive, trying to be like his friend would be, but when Athena stops him saying that the enemy is still alive and he needs to "Finish it", because leaving someone of that nature can come back to bite him again, and Athena mentions Odysseus's dead friends to suggest that he needs to be cooler, in order to completely remove a very possible threat or consequence in the future, but Odysseus misunderstands this and becomes emotional, so he decides he does not want the Goddess to protect him, and he informs his enemy (who killed his childhood friend and many soldiers) who defeated him, and who punished him for his inhospitality, King of Ithaca Odysseus.
Full of emotions of guilt and anger, Odysseus thinks that he has shown power, that he is better than his enemy because he did not take his life, but he just gave ammunition to the Cyclops to use in the future against our Odysseus.
The owl is associated with wisdom in the modern day because it was her animal symbol back then.

As to how odysseus can trick Athena- I personally like to believe its the influence of his heritage. His great grandfather is Hermes who (while being a god of messangers, travel, and herding) is also a trickster god. Odysseus isn’t just wise because of Athena’s influence, he’s also clever and tricky because of his family background!

One of my favorite things about this song is how before meeting Odysseus Athena sings "Warrior of the mi~ind" as a single note belt, then when he joins her she holds the same note while he does the run. Then the next time they BOTH do the run. She *followed Odysseus' lead* which is crazy. Teaching him fundamentally changed an aspect of who she was. It just shows that even though Athena claims that their relationship is solely for getting her "perfect warrior," it's clearly more than that. Even if she refuses to admit it even to herself. (which is why when she sings it in "My Goodbye" she doesn't do the run the last time, because that was Odysseus' addition and she wants to be done with him)
another interesting part of this animation is the 'montage' you mentioned as well as the drawing infront of athena and odysseus when we arent in the flashback is (i think) supposed to represent tapestries! since athena also was the godess of weaving and ancient civilizations liked displaying historical moments in tapestries

Okay, if you're willing to check out/react to alternative animatics from the ones youve already seen, I HAVE to recommend that you xheck out Mircsy's version of 'My Goodbye'.
Cause no lie, it was my favourite Epic Animatic EVER (until Gigi's most recent one but you should'nt worry about that right now💀). The visuals, the expressions, the story-telling-I don't know if you'll hate Athena any less by the end, but compared to the one you and Mortius reacted to (which is also great, all the love to Wolfy as well), it manages to humanize Athena in a way that we have yet to see any Deity being humanized in this Epic.
So check it out, cause its totally awesome and you'll absolutely enjoy it!

Ody is also given his name by his grandfather: "Since I have been angered (ὀδυσσάμενος odyssamenos) with many, both men and women, let the name of the child be Odysseus". So i guess Ody is named "One to be angry at" which seems very fitting ^^'

Wolfy is my favorite animator in this community, might not be as flashy as the others, but they have a really good grasp on the movement and composition, with a realy professional touch. everything is clear and easily readable. also they add a lot of detail from the odyssey, like him getting injured in the leg by that boar, and his father giving up the throne and retiring early.

I'm pretty certain that Wolfy's choice to use the "engraved" look was inspired by the movie Price of Egypt
So a little late but: Owls are considered wise *because* they are Athena's symbol, she is the origin of that symbology. Ody's dad is named Laertes... I'm like 90% sure he's dead before the Trojan War. It could have been Laertes though (since it was of course the past)... probably wasn't. Ody is also the Great Grandson of Hermes... so he may have inherited some of his Great Grandpa's trickster powers/skills.
You can really see just how manipulative Athena really is with this one. 'How I designed you' the way she send a deadly boar that literally killed a whole bunch of people (what does she care) just so a hero might rise up that she can train. The great symbolism of how Athena literally moves behind Odysseus' throne as if she is essentially controlling his every move. and then that Don't disappoint me! She is so cold and calculating and rational. It was always going to go wrong between her and Odysseus since while Odysseus is 'a warrior of the mind' he is also deeply emotionally and passionately connected with his humanity and the people he cares about which is something Athena cannot understand as a goddess.

Odysseus at one point did have a father, I assume he's dead, seeing as Odysseus is king of Ithaca. His mom isn't mentioned in "Full Speed Ahead", but she was waiting for him too, along with Ithaca and Penelope.
I love wolfy!! Theyve been my inspiration for super long and im sure the wall scene with the boar is inspired by the prince of egypt as i know they love thay movie too, wolfy actually got me into greek mythology even more than i was before and i love seeing all the actual greek mythology wolfy puts into their animatics!!! So yeah everything you see in their animatics usually keeps canon to the odyssey and other myths, but also theyve made many designs for many other figures in greek mythology that arent in the musical. Also they are in ithica, also the owl is athenas symbol, and aaalso please keep in mind if you something in an animatic thats not said in the songs can also be very much artistic liberty hih, even in the songs actually, polites is barely a character in the actual odyssey if i remember correctly, but we still obviously love him!! :D
There are so many other good animatics than what you have watched so far! Rochi’s The Horse and The Infant, Mircsy and Wolfy’s Just A Man, nearly all other Polyphemus animatics (they all have different styles and I adore them), Mircsy’s My Goodbye, Ximena’s Keep Your Friends Close, all the wip animatics… I disagree with some of Mortius’s choices, but they were generally the most popular ones I agree. Though can’t really blame anyone for having different favourites since the fandom work of this community is amazing in general

Disney's "Hercules" causes me pain just to think about because of how much they changed or got wrong. 🤣 My main complaint being that Hercules is the Roman equivalent, whereas the Greek version is Heracles, and yet they used the Greek pantheon. I can understand why they made it so that Hades was the one to send the snakes to kill him, because infidelity and a goddess trying to murder her half-son aren't Disney-friendly. In the actual story, it's a spiteful Hera that sends the snakes, because he wasn't a god who lost his godhood like in the film, he was a demigod. I do appreciate that the woman that found him in the film is actually named after his mother.

1. Athena enters your MIND (hint hint)
2. It happens in a time bubble in your head (Quick. Gettit?) and-
3.It’s technically in said head, she can access said person’s memories, say for example, how she reminds Odysseus in this very video.
I'm pretty sure you know it by now but that "high-five" moment is straight up taken from behind-the-scenes of recordings. There are at least two clips of this moment of the song where Jay does this, so as far as visuals go it's almost canon :)

I'm going to try and mention other animatics for the first two sagas.
ElliamArts has animatics for the entire Troy saga.
For the Horse and the Infant there's Rochi and Pipdoodles.
For Just a Man there's Mircsy's and Wolfy's, though you want to do the redone animatic by Wolfy. They weren't happy with the original. Rochi has a short animatic that starts from "When does a comet become a meteor". It's not the full song but i included it since it follows up their version of The Horse and the Infant.
There's another Open Arms by Rosa Thompson that has less than 10k views. It's very much sketchy at parts and does cut off before the end of the song, but you can never go wrong with more Polites. Imbecileo also has a full open arms. Again, more Polites = good.
Warrior of the Mind has an interesting one by Space Bar. They moved when it happens in the story for their animatic.
For Polyphemus there's Wolfy, Ximena Natzel, Imbecileo, Arven, and Hana Al-Aride. That last one of them is a bit distressing for Polites fans so you can decide if you want that. Arven only has like 1000 views so hopefully more of the community goes and checks out that one.
That's all the ones I know through the cyclops saga. I'm not sure which ones you did for the Ocean saga so as you put them out I'll try and recommend more.

It isn't really clear who the older man is but there is a cut song called man of the house that talks about Odysseus' father and how Odysseus became king.
Actually, I don't know if Wolfy mentions it in that specific video, but that's Odysseus' maternal grandfather (and the younger, bigger guy is king Laertes, his father). They have their designs for Odysseus' family posted on their channel. Wolfy generally borrows from the actual mythology more than other animators do (the wound in Odysseus leg, for example, is an actual thing; as an adult, in the myth, he has a scar from when he hunted the magic boar).

Circe is "Sir-see", its all soft c's, though if Epic was done up in greek it would be Kirki. so yeah, their name ends up pronounced both ways in different sources which can cause confusion.
