Sm7b is basically a 57 with the transformer removed (hence the lower output). The transformer gives the 57 a presence boost in the upper mid range, whereas the 7b stays quite neutral.. I have gutted 57’s that sound quite similar to my 7b 👍🏼
Thanks for the insight! Curious though - the capsule in the SM7B appears larger than the entire housing on the 57. Will have to look up the tech specs.
@@ColeParamore yes I’ve noticed that to, not sure yet, I’ll look at the specs myself 👍🏼 they may have opted for a slightly larger moving coil.. that would capture the bass tones smoother and more accurately 👌🏼 great job on the videos brother, keep them up!
Used an sm7b outside a kick (about 6in off the head, about 6in off center) to provide some body for the nd68 that was inside and closer to the batter. Great results.
I may have missed it on your intro. What switch configuration did you have on the SM7B? In your recording, it definitely sounded bassier, but there is a bass cut and high end presense switches you could use to adjust to tighten the bass or add more snap to the snare.
The 7b is sounding a lil flat compared to 57. People report the cloudlifter adding body and presence to the 7b..so it's not just there for extra gain.so they say Just got a cl-1 for my 7b so I plan on testing these statements
I really wish you did this in the overhead position. I actually really enjoy the SM57 as a mono overhead. I’m shit at mixing and it’s really clear for Instagram videos. That’s all I really plan to do besides the occasional RUclips cover.
So basically sm7b for rack toms and sm57 for snare and kick. Got it!!

Yes, good point I don't think I mentioned it. 90% sure it was flat.

What was the conclusion?
any report?
Any conclusion on using the Cloudlifter?
7B is a little muffled, but feels more controlled for it.

Your wish is my command: ruclips.net/video/0o_J0r6yqyA/видео.html
I can,t bealive i got the same conclusion than you: sm57 snare , sm7b for toms.
Great minds think alike.
Sm7 is one of the great microphones. Fuck yeah man
Wildly different.
Use both. 👍
Would have loved to hear them compared on cymbals
That's an unusual use case for me, but maybe that'd be a good followup!
