Torque specs 96 inch pounds 2 center bolts, 80 inch pounds for perimeter bolts per Toyota specs. Not foot pounds as that would strip the bolts and create a mess. Great video. Watching some old school Toyota Maintenance. 🔧😆

8 ft lb for the bolts around the edge, 80 in lbs for the two in the center. 80 in lbs for the coil packs. 80 in lbs for the wire harness. 62 in lbs for the cylinder head cover. Per the factory maintenance manual for the 2003 Corolla and Matrix.

Creates a better seal the gasket alone won’t always provide a perfect seal so the gasket maker helps solidify that bond between the components without worrying if it’ll leak oil or fluids

  • @chris-zn2ge

What is the reason why the RTV is put on those two specific areas? Why only there? How is that spot different then the rest of the surface where the gasket itself was good enough to seal it? Is it where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head? Thanks

I got a 98 corolla that I just replaced a power steering line and a brake caliper.. Now I see it needs a valve cover gasket and steering rack has a slow leak. It's old and ugly but only has 130k and runs great so I think I'm going to rack...dreading the job though..at least the cover gasket looks easy enough. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for posting this, just did this on my 05 Matrix, also changed the o-ring on the timing chain tensioner. How long did you let the gasket maker dry/cure before cranking up the engine? Package says 24hrs but I'm inpatient. I figured since it's only for those small areas around the seams it might not be a big deal. Ambient temp is about 80F, semi-humid.

is it important to use that gasket seal tube? Would the gasket leak if i don't use the tube? After watching your video, i think i can do it myself but don't have that tube. Also, can anything else be substituted for this tube? anything i can buy cheap?
