Lateralus was such an insane experience for me originally, and playing the original super Mario 64 was magical despite not being old enough to say I grew up with either. Seeing as how you can download tabs (and there are a bunch of communities exchanging tabs) it's very likely all the uploader had to do was download the tabs made by someone else, then choose an instrument out of the soundfont for each midi-track and you're done. Back in the day when my ear wasn't good enough yet to learn songs by ear I downloaded a couple gigs worth of tabs. Literally tens of thousands of songs from all genres in one pack (torrents).
