when they referred to Sophia as a "mistreated macaw" I was expecting her to, very reasonably, be a complete terror. She was *so* good! so proud of her, and her new owner seems like a total gem
What a great vet tech and veterinarian. Need to be very calm around parrots. A very awesome job. Sophia did an AWESOME job too considering about her past. The new owner is very understanding. Thank you for sharing.
My 8 year old son did a school project on parrots and loved watching this video. He wanted me to tell you how thankful he is that you were able to help this beautiful Macaw. Thank you for all that you do!

Same. I can’t take it. I’m not a vegan( wish I didn’t like meat so much ) but I am an animal advocate of animals A-Z and one of the 2 things I can’t take is animal and child cruelty.... it ruins me.
But I’m so grateful that there are brave badass people out there who are strong enough not just physically but mentally and emotionally to help and rescue them. I couldn’t but I thank God for the people who do!!
@@Gunnar2V you should buy meat from local farms and not from supermarkets that sell meat from industrial farms. You dont need to be vegan to speak against animal abuse! I also sugest to not eat seafood, it has a lot of bycatch (animals that arent targeted but still get caught) like sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, whales and sea birds.
As someone who has been bitten by a macaw. It is not fun. Was feeding one that was abused and socializing her. She just chomped down on my finger pretty hard. Lots of blood lol
Sophia is so beautiful. I'm glad she got rescued. I have rescue parakeets and its so hard when you don't have age or good information on them. Love is all my babies want and thats terrible that she had horrible diet. My babies get their greens, celery, carrots and broccoli and special occasions millet.

I had one of these guys grab my finger once... wouldn't let go either. Wasn't pleasant to say the least, they are quite strong as you can tell. Beautiful bird
So sweet. Ashley was a rockstar. You can tell how much she cares. Whew that got me all teary eyed! So glad she had a great rescuer and isbon track to a better life.
I love Dr K’s show. To me it doesn’t matter how brilliant you are or that you are a genius none of that matter. Dr K has all of that great . What I see as a the number 1 quality , she has that makes her so great is SHE has heart ❤️ ❤. Every animal is special to her, that is what makes her so great.
I hope they let the wings re-grow. And what a sweet macaw!! Had to get my cockatiel loose when she got herself stuck and she wasn't as nice as this macaw while I have her and her boyfriend for a year now. She tore my finger apart but rather that than her getting hurt.
what a sweet Macaw. how anyone miss treat a sweet girl like that. she has a new owner that will cause her harm. and she will be loved forever. Macaw's are beautiful bird's.
great vet and such a great vet nurse. she was so into her patient - and a great personality. i loved watching her “flying” the bird. :) 👩🏾⚕️🦜🌷🌱 i am learning so much about the emotions of birds and totally amazed. their emotional feelings are so sensitive. just look at her laying her head on her new mom. i swear i see an expression in those eyes. she knows she’s safe. :) beautiful vid - thanks :) 🦜🌷🌱
That is such a good-natured bird. I'm surprised she's that nice considering how badly her prior owner neglected her. I guess the neglect was ignorance rather than physical abuse.
Wow she seems like a lovely bird (who would ever get rid of her) .very well behaved. Looks great considering the peanut diet...my Greenwing distains peanuts 🤣 she Chuck's them out& only eats the expensive nuts cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, almond . & Makes waaay more noise at the vet (& she's a good patient)
I am crazy about parrots... I can afford a big bird like her.. but I have 2 year old Alexander parrot.. and he is just amazing we stay together.. I never let him feel scared or terrified.. the best is when he feel safe and secure.. parrot attempt to give u his half digested food.. by throwing up..😂😂 I mean I can't eat that.. but I'm happy that he trusts me❤️❤️❤️
This doctor was such a good one.Macaw was treated very well.I have a question to make. What kind of nuts are suitable for parrots?I have a grey one and he likes peanuts.Thank you.👍
Pine nuts, almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts,, pecans, pistachios. These are fed as treats or broken into small bites for training purposes. They are considered high value rewards for good behavior. I give my Macaw 1 walnut or 1 almond in the shell daily for beak exercise by cracking them open. The almond shell she uses to grind her beak and keep it trimmed herself.
No peanuts. They aren't even tree nuts they are legumes grown I the soil and can carry asperligosis. A fungus they can get from mold spores in peanuts. It can make your bird very, very sick.
Good luck for the teenager phase. There are good training videos from BirdTricks. You'll need that for when hormones turn your sweet baby into a biting monster ( the period at which alot of owners sell their macaw or put it in a shelter. Nobody likes getting stitches because sweet angel had another mood swing. ).
1) Is it certain this bird is female? 2) "Her" honking & sudden switch to gentleness, to "baby-like" behavior (ie, the "honks") are a reversion to literally chick behavior. Sometimes they do this if frightened, or w/trauma, surprise, etc (tho I do think the vets were quite patient & gentle. It's more the suddenness, the introduction of something this bird was not used to, or that was totally new to this bird. I don't believe it's any harmful or lasting trauma.) My statements are based upon observations of breeding & keeping macaws & parrots for many years (breeding macaws 15 years, keeping them a total of 30 years; misc parrots breeding & keeping 38 yrs). Concerns about being fed solely on peanuts are the possibility of fungal infections, due to aflatoxins, aspergillosis, vitamin & nutrient deficiencies, & I believe kidney function.
Papillae are pointed structures inside a bird's mouth. Did you know that their color, size and shape can indicate nutritional health?
Neet I didn't know that and I have a pet bird. Learning something new each day.
I knew that. Learned about it from my avian vet.
Awww I love that she kissed the parrots beak, that was so sweet
