As a Canadian, american politics is what we wake up for everyday. What happened today was embarrassing, I even got second-hand embarrassment by watching it live
And for us in Mexico, it was surreal seeing the US in the news having a failing democracy in full display.

I feel the elephant in the room is; how are they not held accountable for their actions? It’s when people can get away with crimes that they escalates while others look on with disbelief. I am surprise the protests without weapons are handled with more actions than those with weapons today. Something has failed.

When BLM talks about defunding the police, what they mean is using funds for outside psychologists to deal with situations the police are not trained to deal with. Using funds for community policing, so the police get to know the people in the communities they serve, to provide counseling for police that are stressed and unable to cope with situations without resorting to shooting first. Everyone knows if these protestors were Black even without weapons, they would have been beaten and shot. But skin color has its privileges.

I really want to thank God because his the giver of children and I want to appricite my friend Abbey, and most importantly I thank God for using prophetehiagwina to rescue me from the great pain and shame of my life. It is humbling to see all the comments from other countries expressing sympathy and prayers for our safety. Thank you all. This has been a day filled with shame for our appearance to the rest of the world.

I have been watching the news and following social media, and I have been spiraling into despair at what I was seeing. You reminded me that no matter how many times this nation trips and makes mistakes, that we always snap back. We have to snap back.... the world is watching. And, in two weeks this four-years madness will end on the very steps that were dishonored by this pack of lunatics. @@simonayers8033 Military members are not duty-bound to follow illegal orders. In fact, they are expected, and sometimes legally required, to refuse to obey them. They could refuse to follow the orders of their commander-in-chief if they believed those orders were contrary to their oath to the Constitution. Military members are not absolved of moral responsibility simply because orders are within the limits of the law, for they also take an oath to “support and defend” and to “bear true faith and allegiance” to the Constitution. During Trump's presidency, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - the highest-ranking uniformed officer in the U.S. military - went so far as to issue a service-wide memo reminding troops of that oath, one that may well be at odds with what the president may order. The My Lai massacre: In March 1968, in the South Vietnam hamlet of My Lai, 2nd Lt. William Calley conducted a successful raid, after which he ordered his men to round up the survivors who were herded into a ditch and shot to death. Approximately 500 Vietnamese civilians, old men, women, and children were killed by Lt. Calley and some of his troops who followed his orders.
Calley and those who followed his orders were court-martialed. Calley in turn claimed he was only following the orders of his superior. Witnesses against them both were troops who refused to follow Calley’s order. Those who refused to follow his order did not face court-martial. Calley was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
The lesson learned from My Lai is that it is “wrong to say Calley had an obligation to follow any order no matter what. His first obligation was to obey the law, and the law prohibits the deliberate killing of unarmed citizens.”
Thank you James. Listening to and watching you speak made me feel what we should all feel. We take for granted the things we need to remember to appreciate more often. Things we need to hold tighter and nurture every day, because now we realize it truly could be taken away from us. Sometimes it takes someone like you who was not born and raised in the United States to put it into words.

I woke up to absolute chaos in the house this morning. My father is a trump supporter and he was going off about what’s going on in DC and saying that it’s the most important news to talk about. Trying talk to my mother and I about how they’re “fixing the democracy” or something.
And 40mins in, we get a phone call that my grandmother has passed. Now, my mother is crying her eyes out, father is yelling about the shit that’s happening in DC, I didn’t know what to feel. I care about both SO much. And it just felt like everything was crumbling in front of my eyes.
My grandmother was the one that took care of me when my father wasn’t there and my mother was bedridden from her chronic illness. She was the one that raised me. And we can’t even go to her funeral bc it’s in Japan and there’s a global pandemic going on and we’re moving soon so we can’t leave the mess in our house behind.
But I also watched the foundation of the county I grew up in, being shattered into pieces. By adults. With guns. And the government did nothing.
I don’t know where or who to turn to. I don’t know what to do. I’m just so stunned by everything and every emotion that I’m supposed to be having that I don’t know what to feel anymore. I haven’t been able to cry. and I’m the biggest cryer I know, so this is very unsettling.
I don’t know if I can feel hope just yet but I honestly can’t wait for the 20th and for this hell to be over. We need a break.

I've always thought it was the model nation of true democracy. But what happened yesterday shook me to the core and shattered my impression of what America values.

I am proud to be an America, but for the first time i felt rage and anger towards those traitors that were desecrating the people's house.
I have been forced to protest as a teenager multiple times in the last few years but they have always been nonviolent and have never become riots. I did not like the outcome of the last election and I was very upset but I never wanted people to get violent over it and they didn't. I have gone to the lawfully organized women's march with signs and pink hats to support and share my beliefs with my right to protest. This was not a protest it was a riot. I have walked out of my classroom for the March For Our Lives walk out right after being in a real lock down were I was not sure I would survive. Although no one was hurt and everything was cleared I had to hide for three hours under a desk, have my backpack searched through by police who yelled at us to put our hands up, and gave us a bucket to pee in if we needed it while they went to the other classrooms. I heard helicopters circling our school and heard police yelling in other classrooms. The sad part is I was relieved when I found out we were the reason for the lock down because I was worried it was my younger brothers who were in trouble. To fear for your life and your family's lives when you are a freshman in high school during class is a horrible feeling while also knowing there is no way out and the only one there to protect you in the room is yourself. Kids lives are either taken or threatened in schools more than people realize and I am very angry with the government for their lack of aid but even though I went through an experience were I felt my life was in danger and that it was the government's fault none of us kids have ever been violent in our protests. The politicians who were in the building now keep saying that you should never come into work and have your life threatened but they are the ones who refuse to help schools with the same issue. They got an inside look of what it feels like to be in a real lock down at school only they had people holding their hands, protected them, and had a safe way out. Even though I resent them for making kids experience this and then whine when they experienced a similar event I still do not think those people had any right to riot and become violent. I hope you see this James Cordon because I believe that this needs to be said and no one is going to listen to an "immature teenager" unless a popular adult backs us up.
