Tom is obviously living on in your heart, and one day Mama will see him there and know that it's okay to let her guard down. Just keep taking care of her the way Tom wants you to, and she'll come around. I wish I could give you a hundred thumbs up.
I also have an indoor feral cat, she has been with me 16 years and just this last year she allows me to pet her, looks for me and climbs on my lap. Mama will do it when she is ready.

When we bring a stray cat into our heart and home we never know what underlying health conditions they may have. We simply give them what they really wanted, a safe space and loving attention at the pace they and our family circumstances can manage. I'm happier knowing they had a good life before they passed. Mama will surprise you one day, she'll want to be touched and stroked, but it'll be when she is ready.
Don't be sad, you'd offered him his best last years. And, as protective he was with Mama, you can be sure he still must be around checking everything allright for the family. He will be there to welcome you all on the other side...

This one made me bawl first thing on a Monday morning. I foster and feed cats and dogs, and no matter how many times I lose one, it's always heartbreaking, you never really get over it like there's a hole in your heart. But I thank you immensely for loving Tom and Mama. Tom knows he was loved deeply. That he helped find Mama a loving heart and home is one of his great legacies. I'm also comforted by the thought that one day, me and my fosters and strays would be together again, never to be separated again. Much love and respect
So beautiful! I’m happyyou got Tom inside. I had a similar case, the sweetest male cat Sylvester, we got his little lady and kittens but I never got him inside, the he stopped coming around. I always wanted him in so he could be with his family. I’m sure Tom knows you loved him so much or he never would have trusted you with Mama. So many feral cats in my neighborhood, but I help to feed them and water too by leaving it behind for them to eat/drink. As I got to eventually know them, I found out they're actually quite sweet and unique in a cool way. Plz help these community strays by feeding them since they already deal with too much living on the streets (cars/traffic, weather, dogs/ predators, etc). It feels good to give back to animals in need.

I love cats. People make me ill talking about "not liking cats" or being "a dog person". I've got a next-door neighbor like that. I think she had 1 not perfect experience with a cat when she was younger and so that now means that all cats are irredeemable creatures in her mind that should be at best shunned and shooed away. She acts like my cats are pests if they dare to cross over into her yard. She's got a Yorkie who barks incessantly and insanely due to her not understanding how to make the dog feel secure and safe, so my cats going there is not normally a problem at all, thankfully. I like and appreciate all animals so I can't call myself a cat or dog person.

I had an Near Death Experience as a child and had a visit with the Other Side. I can tell you that Tom knows how much you love him and that you're taking care of Mama. Probably because of my NDE I've spent the last 60 years steeped in various forms of mysticism. I've had cats for many of those years and one of them visited me 4 times after she passed, just to let me know she's okay and how grateful she is we took her in off the street. My husband also passed 8 years ago and has found ways to communicate. They don't go far. You have a lovely and generous heart. 💗

At least at the last couple years of his life were ones where he didn’t have to fight for everything and he was never cold, hot or hungry. I do things very much like this too. Just recently there was a very old, blind, crippled opossum that made its way into my fenced back yard. Showed up towards the end of winter and just died in early June. I made sure it had food, water and a safe place to rest. Why? Why not?
It doesn’t take much to share love. There’s more people that care for others than there is not. Don’t let the propaganda of media turn you into fearful people. Loving kindness costs nothing and the returns are immeasurable.
😢😔I am so sorry for your loss. Tom is now living a beautiful life over the rainbow bridge and probably checking in occasionally on you and Mama. If you see mama looking at something you can't see, or looking up and meowing, she is getting a visit from Tom.
We had feral cats living under our house when myself and my bro were teenagers. One of them the male cat jumped in through my window one night when I was watching X-files the episode on witchcraft, I remember this being a witch myself. I showed my bro and we hide it from our mother, we took turns feeding him in secret. Then six months later he came inside and never left. My mum was furious with us. But he started following her around, he became her cat, her 3rd child as she called him. He absolutely adored her to no end. Then when my mum got sick he slept with her every time she lay down to rest. Then after she died he wandered round the house finding items that had her scent and slept on them all until there was nothing left, then he just gave up he lasted one year, one month and one day after she passed. I still miss them both to this day and it's been 14 years now.
