Grew up riding the corkscrew at Knotts. Now I’m in my 40s and moved to north Idaho where that legendary coaster at Silverwood still sits and OPERATES. Riding the same coaster in two different states is something I’m very proud of.
That’s a great achievement! Sadly Corkscrew had left Knott’s before I visited. I’d love to ride it, but Silverwood is a long way from any other places!
@@CoasterConnections It’s such a well run and clean park. Stunt pilot is one of the best raptors and there is usually no line if they are running two trains.
Thank you for uploading this video. Made my memories even more vivid. Please upload more if you locate more footage. Im sure us Knott's Berry Farm lovers would appreciate it.
What a trip down memory lane! Knott's was one of the first places where my friend & I - ages 12 & 13 respectively - were allowed to spend the day without adult supervision. The first time we went, her mom dropped us off with the dire warning if we weren't at the agreed-upon meeting spot ready to be picked up at 8:00 pm, she would never take us again. Needless to say we were at the spot by 7:30, just in case LOL. It was such fun seeing some of my old favorites again: Corkscrew, Wacky Soap Box Derby, Knott's Bear-y Tales, and the Haunted Shack (once I got picked to sit in the chair-stuck-to-the-wall, so cool). Thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing peoples stories from the parks, it's the memories that get shared that make doing videos like this so interesting. I hope your mom was true to her word and let you go again many times!
I was born in so cal in 79 and grew up going to Knotts. Soap box racers and sky jump (parachute ride) were the ones I'd ride over and over. I remember being so bummed when they took them out. Knotts provided decades of entertainment to myself and now my kids for over 40 years. Good times thanks for putting this together
Wow! Thank you so much for uploading this. I grew up in Southern California in the 80s til the 2000s and Knotts was always the park locals went to most. I have so many fond memories of going there. The Haunted Shack and Soapbox Racers really need to be brought back in particular. I was crushed when those closed!
I actually used to ride on Kingdom of the Dinosaurs as a kid back in the late 90s and early 2000s, and it was my favorite ride at Knott's Berry Farm. Though it's long extinct, it will always have a place in my heart, and I would love to see it return one day. 🦕🦖🦣
I grew up visiting Knott's Berry Farm during the 90's and early 2000's. I still remember the soundtrack that would play in different parts of Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, it's too bad that they didn't release a cd with the songs from the ride after it got closed in 2004. I never got the chance to ride Soap Box Racers, but I do remember the construction that was going on when the park was building Windjammer Surf Racers. I was very upset when Knott's got rid of the Parachute Sky Jump, they removed the arm structure during 2002 with the construction of Xcelerator. I also remember riding Grand Slammer and Tampico Tumbler in Fiesta Village a couple of times, they both got removed during 2003. I wish that Knott's could bring some of their past rides.
Some great memories here, thank you for sharing. It’s amazing just how many rides have come and gone at this park. Probably due to its small size Knott’s has needed to take something out to build something new!
However, if I was given the idea to resurrect the Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. Here's my pitch: it would be a fast-paced dark ride similar to Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, The Revenge of the Mummy, and its Disney cousin, Countdown to Extinction but with a light-gun shooter similar to Men In Black Alien Attack. It will retain the soundtrack and sound effects of the prehistoric beasts and remove the educational dialogue entirely. I imagine the commercial saying, "In the summer of 1987, there came Kingdom of the Dinosaurs (T.rex roars)! A dark ride that ruled the park for 17 years. But in 2004, it became extinct(shows image of the ride in ruins)! And since then, it has been gone............that is until now! (Que Retro synthwave music) Now it is back! Kingdom of the Dinosaurs has finally returned to rule the park! Go back to the summer of 1987, the grandson of Dr. Wells has invented a new and improved time machine that will set you back. However, what was supposed to be a travel to prehistory ends up going hay wire as the past travels back into the future! These ferocious beasts are now roaming in the present, and its up to you to send them back! Prepare yourself for an adventure of a lifetime, as you're about to walk into the Kingdom of the Dinosaurs! ROAWWRR!!!!" I picture the remake/reboot of Kingdom of the Dinosaurs as a follow up to the original ride in which it keep the same animals and environments like before, though this time some of environmental hazards and dangerous dinosaurs and beasts will try to attack (of course, no harm is done to the riders. It's there for the thrills). But luckily for the rider, they're given a light gun that will zap the beasts back to their time-line. The animals and cave men are going to be portrayed as scientifically accurate and are going to look more realistic as well. Also, instead of starting out in the 1920s, it will instead be set in 1987 with a bit of 80's camp as a homage to the year it came out. Much like before, after the ride ends, riders exit through the gift shop and retro arcade that includes a lot of old arcade games from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. That's my idea for a Return to Kingdom of the Dinosaurs if Knott's decides to one day bring it back. I highly doubt it, but it's wishful thinking. 🦖🦕🦣🦤
Timberline Twister was the 1st coaster I ever rode back in the 80's. The cars of the trains were painted red back then. I also fondly remember the Soap Box Racers, and being to small to ride Corkscrew, haha! Thanks for sharing this video, and great work! Really tapped into some old memories for me that I had almost forgotten. Cheers!
my mom took me on skyjump in the 90s. i was like 6, and it was the most terrified i'd ever been on a ride. i just kept looking down at the ground between the bars and crying.
Thanks for doing this video! This is great! Although the original Bear-y Tales is lost. Many of its original animatronics, sets, and props are in our pool of collection by us and two others

Great video. If you do another do you mind covering Hammerhead? It was a favorite of mine and I was shocked when I finally made it back to the park and it was gone.
I grew up going to this park!! I wish you covered a cool ride that was removed quite some time ago. It was called XK-1. I never knew why it was removed but I loved it!!!
Being a young adult working overnight in 2010 time originally from Missouri. I can't believe I rode some many of these and it's crazy so many are gone.
I started going there in the early 80's. The Wacky Soap Box Racers was my favorite ride. Back when there was a petting zoo. Paper tickets to enter the park. Damn goats would eat the tickets if they were visible. Happened to me. To this day, it is still my favorite theme park. The log ride and mine ride are my favorites now.
Great video, lots of memories! Another lost Knotts attraction is the Intamin flight trainer XK-1 located where Supreme Scream is today. It had an open cockpit with both over the shoulder and lap restraints. I always thought of it as Dumbo on steroids because you could control it going up or down or do a barrel roll or upside-down stall with the small joystick inside the cabin.
Thank you so much for this! I love how you compare to Dumbo… you are spot on! 😂 Those flight trainers were all the rage for about a week, then disappeared! I guess the accident at Kings Island didn’t help.
I so remember Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, Wacky Soap Box Racers, Sky Jump, Haunted Shack, Boomerang and Timberline Twister! Thanks for the memories! Windjammer sucked though, and I never got a chance to ride Perilous Plunge because it broke down so often. Do you think the reason the Sky Jump closed was because Supreme Scream made the ride feel outdated? One attraction you forgot to mention was the Gasoline Alley, which was basically the Knott's equivalent of the Autopia but themed to the Roaring 20's area. It was located under the Wacky Soap Box Racers and closed along with it when construction began on Wind Jammer.
Thank you so much for commenting. You got to ride lots of the lost attractions. I think Supreme Scream definitely contributed to it. But I think safety was one of the main drivers. Oh yes… Gasoline Alley maybe one for a follow up video.
Oh my goodness thank you so much for making this video, I remember a few weeks ago I recommended that you make this video after you made the one for magic mountain, And I'm so happy that you did make this video, And now I'm about to sit back and relax and take a trip down memory lane, Oh my goodness this video is going to make me very emotional, because it's going to make me remember my mama May she rest in peace because she will take me and my little sister to Knott's Berry farm every summer growing up here in Los Angeles, And I just love Knott's Berry farm And I have a season pass and I was just there last week and I'm going back next week, anyway I just want to say thanks again and I really do love your videos and your channel, And honestly I was trying to think of another park you should do next, but honestly I'm so excited for this Knott's Berry farm video I can't even think about another park right now, but somewhere once I do think of another park I'll leave another comment again later, And now I'm about to put play on this video and have a good time going down memory lane okay That part, sincerely Blair Fox Love!*🎉❤🌈👍🏾🫶🏾🎢
I was inspired after my recent trip, and I can’t turn down a good suggestion for a video topic. Thank you for the great idea! As you can tell I love exploring park history. I just hope I did this fantastic place justice!
@@CoasterConnections Oh my God You definitely did Knott's Berry farm Justice, seriously you did a great job, honestly I think I watched the video like four times already, because it just brings back so many memories seeing all the old rides I used to ride when I was a kid, anyway I'm still thinking of a suggestion for a future video but I'm trying to give it some good thought so I'll let you know when I come up with, And of course thanks again sincerely, Blair Fox Love!*👍🏾😘🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🎢
Great video! Other Knotts attractions that I miss are Whirlpool, Greased Lightning, XK-1, and Bigfoot Rapids. Actually, the whole Bigfoot themed area was pretty great.
I marathoned Perilous Plunge... That was a mistake on my part. I was absolutely SOAKED from head to toe the entire rest of the day. Some splash rides are gimmicks, but that ride absolutely GUARANTEED a soaking.
I remember going to Knotts Berry Farm as a young kid back in the 90s and riding some of these rides (Wacky Soap Box Racers, Timberline Twister, and Parachute Drop to name a few). I even rode Timberline Twister with both my grandma (mom's side) and younger sister and all 3 of us sat in the same row. Later on in 2005, I would get to ride Boomerang, Perilous Plunge, and the currently SBNO MonteZooma: The Forbidden Fortress (MonteZooma's Revenge when I rode it and I hope they are able to get it up and running again soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻).
The soapbox racers and sky jump are the two I miss the most. I can't prove it, but I sincerely believe it inspired, or at the very least influenced the Cars ride at California Adventure... I never got to ride Corkscrew, but I may have to make the trip and I hated Boomerang, however if I go to Indonesia I will have to seek it out and ride it once again, just so I can say I rode it in two different countries.
I think Knott’s has always been a major influence for Disneyland and vice versa. No idea aver goes away in this industry! I always want to do a trip and ride my childhood coasters all over the world!
I still beat myself up for not riding the Motorcycles. At that time I was really fascinated with the Corkscrew (because going upside down was a novel thing). Soap Box Racers kinda made up for it (it consistently raced). I also regretted missing a ride on Perilous Plunge as well.
I totally get where you are coming from. I always try to ride any unique or unusual rides, but sometimes you have to make hard decisions. I would have probably chosen the Corkscrew if I think back to my younger mindset!
I used to live in Buena Park for about four years until 2018, but I've kept up with the new updates for Knott's Berry Farm. I used to talk to the employees about adding another layer of track to Xcelerator and have the trains race against each other, calling it Xcelerator Drag Racers. That would've taken care of the two hours of waiting in line, especially during the summer. I have always had a theory that Coast Rider is Windjammer, with only using the yellow track. It would be great if they were to bring back the Parachute ride, I'm sure the new generation would get a kick out of it. Both Parachute Sky Jump and Supreme Scream ran together during 1998 and 1999 seasons. Knott's could wipe out Soak City waterpark, as it only operates during the summertime. They would give them plenty of room to expand the park on the other side of Beach Blvd and add some new rides.
The racing idea was obviously a good one as West Coast Racers at Magic Mountain is a similar concept. Lack of space is one of the only issues about Knott’s but Ghostrider shows what they can do.
@@CoasterConnections My absolute fave flat ride ever was the Tampico Tumbler!!! From what my research has indicated, the last remaining known version of this ride-type was seen at a fair in Washington State. It’s a Zierer Hexentanz. I was so lucky to grow up with Knott’s. I can actually remember the older children’s area at the back of the park, and got to watch them build the first Camp Snoopy! It was torture, because we drove right past the construction every day for what felt like an eon! 😆😆😆
Where did you get all this footage?! Amazing! I have to say, that Windjammer coaster SUCKED. Very painful. It was designed to bounce your head between the two shoulder restraints!
I spend hours trawling old videos. All credits are in the description! The biggest problem here I think was the choice of manufacturer, I’ve yet to ride a smooth TOGO!
As much as I love and miss the old Knott's, I sure don't miss Windjammer, Windseeker or Perilous Plunge! They certainly could use a little help in selection of the rides they purchase - even today.
Knott's Berry Farm is my home park. I originally grew up in Southern California and I remember riding the parachute sky jump, soap box racers, kingdom of the dinosaurs, voyage to the iron reef, boomerang, perilous plunge, windjammer, windseeker, XK-1, hammerhead, Tampico tumbler, grand slammer, headache, high sierra ferris wheel and I remember walking through the haunted shack.
I went to Knott's for the first time on my 12th bday in 1999. They must've just closed Sky Jump and I was so bummed because I wanted to ride it. I rode Supreme Scream though lol
My favorite fun fact is that Hangtime has a cobra roll and a corkscrew to pay homage to the two coasters that came before it. The cobra roll is actually in practically the same place as boomerang’s was !!
The wacky soapbox racers was the best ride ever I've ridden it over 10 times and when we were on the ride to the end we pretended to push the soapbox to win!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣❤
Does anyone remember the club house next to timberline twister? It had a bunch of different rooms and then later got turned into bath rooms. It feels like just a figment of my imagination now. I can’t find any pictures on it. I loved it when I was a kid. It was my first form of disappointment when it closed lol.
@@CoasterConnections I think it was called peanuts play house. I think there was a bridge that was on top and ran across to another building, and it also ran across to the top of the waterfall. And then I think there was a bridge that ran from the water falls to the balloon ride. But I could be wrong it’s all a little fuzzy.
I had my first kiss on Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. Met a girl from another school on a field trip. The ride operator had to stop the ride to split us apart... Good times! Katie from Upland, if you're out there, I hope you're doing well! XD
I remember the Haunted Shack. I miss that attraction and I am Sorry that Cedar Fair thought it didn’t fit in with their vision. I think they were mistaken
It was the industry at the time. The peak of “The Roller Coaster Wars” when attention wasn’t given to theming. I think that they underestimated the nostalgia people had for Knott’s.
@@CoasterConnections yes, I totally agree. I know that keeping up with the Joneses does have some merit but not at the expense of something iconic that many people remember and enjoyed. The park used to have Mystery Lodge too, which was Native American based. It was a walk thru attraction but it’s still part of the Knotts themeing that was totally forgotten.
Camp Snoopy was the first amusement park land created specifically for young kids? Were you joking when you said that? Fantasyland at Disneyland (1955), Pac-land at Magic Mountain (1982) Santa's Village (19510....
They never should have got rid of corkscrew for the boomerang they could have just added elements to the coaster like two Loops like California's Great America and Six Flags Great America did with the demon and the biggest mistake was removing wacky Soap Box racers
Wacky Soap Box Racers is probably up there as one of the most missed rides. I don’t know how Corkscrew would ride today… Silverwood is so far from anywhere else!
The only con about Knotts Berry Farm is that it's on a small plot and doesn't have room to expand, otherwise most of these ionic rides would still be here and in operation.
You are probably right, but it’s also one of its strengths. It’s easy to get around and sometimes a constrained space makes a park design something great like Ghostrider!
I miss Corkscrew. I miss the Haunted Shack and Wacky Soap Box Racers. I *REALLY* miss the Bear-y Tales. I never have been on Kingdom of the Dinosaurs and good riddance. 😡🤬
I agree wholeheartedly with this. I guess they had the existing screens from Iron Reef so it will have been more cost effective. Every year I hope it’s the end of the shooting dark ride craze!

Great video!
Other Knotts attractions that I miss are Whirlpool, Greased Lightning, XK-1, and Bigfoot Rapids. Actually, the whole Bigfoot themed area was pretty great.
Thank you so much. Wow, a great bunch of rides there. The comments here are making me want to do a follow up video.
Also miss Tampico tumbler!!
Yes!
That was a good one too!
Mystery Shack is still operating in the Calico Ghost Town about 120 miles away.
Thanks for the info!
I can’t believe I rode sky jump all the time as a kid and wasn’t scared
I cant believe it was a “family” attraction! 😂
@CoasterConnections it wasn't? I rode that when I was 8 years old.
I marathoned Perilous Plunge...
That was a mistake on my part. I was absolutely SOAKED from head to toe the entire rest of the day. Some splash rides are gimmicks, but that ride absolutely GUARANTEED a soaking.
Sometimes you get so wet you can’t get any wetter. May as well marathon at that point!
I always called perilous plunge the plunger because it was too hard for me to say the first part of the name of the ride when I was younger
You have managed to ride a lot of the history of Knott's! It sounds like you have ridden most of the attractions in the video!
@ just about. Hopefully some day I will make it out to Silverwood to ride Corkscrew.
They need to bring back the soap box racers 🤍
It was such a unique ride wasn’t it! There is one example of that coaster type still in operation.
Agree!
18:25 what's kind of funny is that soul spin just had a similar accident
At least this wasn’t quite as high!
Except for Windseeker, I have been on all those rides. Noticed there was a lot more landscaping back then instead of the concrete jungle we get now.
Almost a full house, well done! I noticed that too, area's like The Boardwalk would benefit from some more greenery and landscaping.
If u went to knotts you HAVE to ride the log ride it’s a must :)
Unless it’s closed like on my last visit! 😭😭😭
@ 😭😭 Goof luck 😭😭
Thank you.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Windjammer was my first inverting coaster and while it wasn't the best, it got me hooked!
I’ll add that to one of its positives. Any ride that can get somebody hooked on coasters is a good thing!
17:51 "Windseeker would operate without tissue until September 2012." lol
All of 13 months! 🤣
@@CoasterConnections tissue was the funniest part
My and my kids favorite Theme Park of all time.
It’s a great park!
Knott’s Berry Tales, the Box Car Racers and the cool flat ride in Fiesta Villiage by the Tilt-a-Whirl we’re the BEST💗
For such a small park Knott’s has had a lot of different flats over the years. I could fill a video with just them!
The certainly have had some strange choices over the years! Possibly driven by the small plot!
So many more there that I didn’t cover! Something for a follow up video!
I appreciate you taking your time to comment and watch!
I remember headache
I remember riding timberline twister a year or two ago. Quite bumpy
Yes the replacement is much smoother! 😁
@ haven’t went on it yet. I’ll probably try it later though
I went to Knott's for the first time on my 12th bday in 1999. They must've just closed Sky Jump and I was so bummed because I wanted to ride it. I rode Supreme Scream though lol
I hope it was a great birthday!
I used to love the the Haunted Shack
It seems a lot of people did. There are not many attractions like that around any more.
My favorite fun fact is that Hangtime has a cobra roll and a corkscrew to pay homage to the two coasters that came before it. The cobra roll is actually in practically the same place as boomerang’s was !!
I love this fact, thanks so much for sharing! Hangtime is such a fun ride, on my last visit I shared my ride with a group of nuns!
I was lucky enough to ride windseeker in its short lived life at knotts it was such a fun ride and was so great with the knotts skyline !
Nice one! I never got to ride, but have been on it at Worlds Of Fun.
I miss Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, the Haunted Shack, and Mystery Lodge. 😢
I need to research the Mystery Lodge more!
Uh... from 18:56 - 19:00 ... A tiny note: Didn't Perilous Plunge open in September 2000? (2012 was when it closed)
You are absolutely right, however hard I try sometimes a mistake makes it in and I hadn't spotted that. A slip up when recording I guess!
What about the mystery lodge?
I’ll have to research and see if it will fit in a future video. Thanks for the idea.
The wacky soapbox racers was the best ride ever I've ridden it over 10 times and when we were on the ride to the end we pretended to push the soapbox to win!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣❤
It was such a unique ride with a fun theme, a true family ride that was loved by so many! Thanks for watching my video 😃
Wind Jammer was aptly named. It's like if they named TT2 "Doesn't work because its always hunting".
Too true!
God I miss Kingdom of the Dinosaurs so much. And while it's not a show, it's absolutely worth mentioning the dolphin and sealion show
I sometimes cover a show as a lost ride, especially if it’s iconic!
Miss the Haunted Shack 😊
Such a classic, not many like that around any more.
Kingdom of the dinosaurs was the scariest ride I had EVER BEEN ON When I was a kid I hated that ride
If I do a more in depth history it might become a horror movie!
Does anyone remember the club house next to timberline twister? It had a bunch of different rooms and then later got turned into bath rooms. It feels like just a figment of my imagination now. I can’t find any pictures on it. I loved it when I was a kid. It was my first form of disappointment when it closed lol.
One for me to do a bit of research on I think... what an excuse for a trip to Knott's!
XD
What a fantastic story! Imagine if she is out there reading this!
I remember the Haunted Shack. I miss that attraction and I am
Sorry that Cedar Fair thought it didn’t fit in with their vision.
I was waiting for someone to mention RIPTIDE used to be behind where Boomerang stood… I remember getting in Riptide Summer of 2012 it had to be
Thank you for watching. I definitely have enough for a a follow up video… watch this space!
Im surprised nobody fell off the parachute ride no restraints or belts screams disaster
There was an unfortunate incident in 1983.
@@CoasterConnections oh no!!!
I liked the Soapbox Racers
It was a great ride!
That bridge got SOAKED on PP
Wetter than the ride sometimes!
They should've kept Perilous Plunge 😭
I would have loved to have got on it.
I believe I only rode Windjammer once on each track. Xcellerator was more my time
I never got to ride, but love the story of it. I can see why it was added, but also understand why it failed!
❤❤❤
😁
As a kid I loved the kingdom of the dinosaurs ride .
Id love to cover this ride in more detail.
Camp Snoopy was the first amusement park land created specifically for young kids? Were you joking when you said that? Fantasyland at Disneyland (1955), Pac-land at Magic Mountain (1982) Santa's Village (19510....
I agree, it's a dubious claim. But thats how Knott's described it back in 1983, and even continue to say that today.
Where’s the Tijuana Taxi and Dolphin Pool?
I couldn’t include everything! I might do a follow up video.
So glad to not see montezooma on here haha
Not yet anyway! I hope it returns next year.
The only ride i love was montezooma's revenge
Hopefully it’s not a lost ride just yet.
I remember kingdom of the Dinosaurs
I would love to do a longer segment about this ride!
Xcelerator has its own fair share of chronic problems
It sure has! Thanks for watching!
I miss Corkscrew. I miss the Haunted Shack and Wacky Soap Box Racers. I *REALLY* miss the Bear-y Tales. I never have been on Kingdom of the Dinosaurs and good riddance. 😡🤬
It’s amazing how many rides have gone and gone, there are almost enough for another video!
Knotts is not maintained well.
Believe me, I’ve been to much worse!
😪😪😪
Sad times 😔
they should have redone Beary tales more like the original, I'm not a fan of the new one. the 3D looks weird sometimes and it's always breaking down.
I agree wholeheartedly with this. I guess they had the existing screens from Iron Reef so it will have been more cost effective. Every year I hope it’s the end of the shooting dark ride craze!
Honorable mention to: Montezuma's Revenge 🎢
I was close to including this… but waiting to see rest next year brings!
