Same as you, I was surprised that urostomy was made out of the ileum! Thanks for these videos. They are very informative and I also enjoy your cheerful style!
Learnt so much, from there being no nerves or feelings with the stoma, I understand why they could take on their own "personality" now 😂 - and the different types there are, very clever surgical intervention
So many positive things. :-) Where to begin. Firstly, that there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to surgery and absolutely nothing to fear. I really admire and respect your positive approach. The manner in which you have remained so positive after being diagnosed. I honestly and sincerely wish you go from strength to strength. As you can imagine when you see those surgeons coming up to you first time is very scary. But now, mentally, I feel much more positive. Thanks very much again Jelena for giving me the inspiration. I love all your videos. :-) Please continue to take good care of yourself and God bless you.
Thanks for this video, I've just seen my surgeon and was told I have rectal cancer and now waiting for the cancer institute here to call. I guess I have to have radiation and chemo to shrink my tumor before I get surgery. I am a 63 yr old woman with a autoimmune disease that has left me very weak. Now I'm not sure how I can survive what lays ahead but I need all the info from real people I can find. I'm going to watch all your videos, thanks again. 💙
Im 25 and they found pre cancer polyps and inflammation in my colon. They found this in my sigmoidoscopy. They only checked out half my colon. They will check out the rest of my Colon soon in a colonoscopy. I am so afraid they will find something worse on the other side. 😭 you give me so much hope! 🙏 Thank you
Just came across this. I have an ileostomy and have done and had most all the malfunctions. I found out if you put the bag on the flange and line it up and pinch it together it works good. No pushing on your stomach trying to get the bag on. I know you won't benefit from this advice but anyone else who is new to stoma care might be able to use this info. I am having a talk about reversal soon so we will see what happens. I had a blockage that caused me to have my stoma not cancer but we are all survivors
Such a helpful and informative video. I'm getting an ileostomy surgery soon and found your video very educational and inspirational to go ahead with it. Thanks Jelena.
Thank you for this video Jelena always a pleasure to see you sweetie ♥️♥️♥️♥️ can you please tell me how you managed your pain with rendition? I am sorry you went through this ☹️☹️ I saw your stomach and broke my heart 💔💔
Zee - I edited my previous comment because I thought you misspelled radiation in your question, but then my husband mentioned you may have been asking about my surgery pain?
@@SurvivorJelena oh I am sorry sweetie I meant pain during the radiation. My brother has alot of pain down there when using the bathroom and it's getting worse by the day 😭😭😭😭
Have him talk to his radiation oncologist about the severe pain. His tissue may be getting excessively damaged from the radiation. I used hemorrhoid cream internally (it was meant to be used internally) for pain.
Carmel Finucane I took naps almost daily, made sure to make it a priority to get at least 8 hours of sleep at night, and limited the amount of things I did that first week of chemo to try and not tire myself too much.
@@SurvivorJelena Jelina it's my husband that has the cancer he is on his second last treatment of folfox and is extremely tired, He is finding the lleostomy very difficult he will be having it reversed the end of September thank God he will be finished with it, thanks for all your information your a star ♥️
The fatigue compounds as you go through treatment, so it gets harder and harder to recover. Sounds like he’s nearing the finish line and won’t have to deal with the fatigue getting worse for too much longer.
Wow, this is really well detailed, I wondered how that all worked, pretty amazing... So, with the illeostmy , in the reversal surgery they push the stoma back in and stich the cut in the side back up - is there not a chance of leakage when this happens?
That’s a good question! Maybe since you’re stitching itself back together (when you’re reversing the ileostomy) it heals really fast, like a cut in your mouth? For the LAR they’re joining two parts that have never seen each other before so maybe that’s why that has the higher chance of leaking?
What did you learn from this video?
Learned a lot from this video sweetie thank you

Honestly one of the best explanation of an ostomy and how they work! Your “crude” example is perfection!
Thank you so much for the compliment 💙

That's a great tip!
This would be a great video for a hospital to use to educate people on the three ostomies.

Hi Jelina thank you for sharing when are you having it reversed ♥️
I actually had it reversed in June 2017. I'll be doing a video on the reversal surgery and recovery coming up in the next few weeks.
That stoma does fart 😂
