This is exactly the information I needed, and presented clearly without the lengthy preamble so many RUclips experts seem to favour! I had a Variax for a while, finally got a Helix and within days realised that my existing amp wasn't going to cut it and I needed a Powercab. Only question now is - do I have to laboriously go through every single preset on the Helix and disable the cab settings? Yikes!
hello Jason. Can you please explain how you connect Elix to the powercab to take advantage of the remote control? Do you need any special cable to make the connection between the two? thank you and keep up the great work
Thank you for the video. My Powercab 212 Plus is arriving tomorrow. It would really be nice if Line 6 included instructions on how to control the Powercab from the Helix. If there are such instructions, I couldn't find it in the Powercab manual or the Helix manual. It seems to be a trend these days. Cryptic instructions or no instructions at all and we have to resort to RUclips to learn how to operate these devices. Glad you're here and doing these but man, they really need to get with it, manual wise.
You need the L6 link cable for this. Once you do, you set your output at end of chain to “Digital” and then you select the Powercab tab and there you can are remote changes, even change speakers and other parameters PER SNAPSHOT!
Im having issue with helix or helix edit wont let me select speakers style in new powercab 112+ , im using a new line 6 version l6 cable and everything works fine except speaker selection and ive udated to 2.0 firmware , anything im missing
Nuther great informative video jason thanks....quick question....when you use your powercab with your helix...whats your preference...frfr or lf raw/flat ect...only asking because when you dial your sounds they come across brilliant so sharing how you use your set up will no doubt be beneficial to many.....keep up the great work....respect.... kev.
I tried using the FRFR mode but for me I find it sounds best (to me) if you just dump the cab or IR from Helix chain and run the Powercab in speaker mode. It feels and sounds more like a real amp to me that way. Plus when I play live the soundman can just mic the cab and the audience hears what I hear.
If you mic the PC while running a cab model from helix in FRFR mode... it’s kinda like mic’ing a studio monitor...but I use it mostly for live performance so I guess it depends on application
Jason, can you please do a video going over the "hotkey" template. and what all the other new templates are used for? No info on any of these. The release notes state hotkey templates start at 06A but actually start at 06B and there is nothing in the templates. The 2.80 release notes state "loading the 2.80 factory presets/templates in step 5 but there is no step 5 on the release notes :( Thanks so much for any help.
I couldn't see what the display was showing on your PC+. But on mine, when I make changes in HX edit, the color ring on PC+ is switching (like yours), but on the display it is not changing the name. It stays on the preset that is manually selected with the select knob but adds the word edited. Is this normal? Jason I absolutely love all your videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks so much and glad you enjoy the videos :-) Yes I believe that is the way it works. I think it just changes the speaker model within the preset you are on.
Jason. Just got my Powercab 212. I noticed when using the L6 link that there is some “crackling noises” and also huge volume changes when switching from FRFR to Speaker emulation. For now I have stuck to running a 1/4” cable. Anyone else have these issues?
Jason Sadites yes, just got Powercab so I assume it has the latest. Helix is on 2.8. This was when I first hooked up and had a cab in my chain. I have since removed cabs from helix chain and use the speaker mode (which I have set to change per snapshot! Which is fricking awesome) haven’t had that issue since. I plan to send direct out from PC to house. This is so much better than having an amp. Had another local band use our practice space for a show we are both on bill for, he is a “traditionalist”... set him a preset up and he used for whole practice and was blown away by how real it felt! Really dig your channel bro, has really helped me create some killer presets. I’m in a Pearl Jam tribute (stone gossards parts). Using twin reverb model for cleans and Line6 JCM800 mod... band loves how close I have the tone to Pearl Jam’s 10 record
One note.... I did have to tweak the Digital output to PC to get tone right. I turn volume low on PC and play while looking at LED signal indicators by PC volume knob, I then adjust the input (up in my case) until the led’s turn yellow and save level there. You don’t want the leds red, but the manual says you get the most realistic “breakup” when you stop just short of red (meaning there is clipping) and have them turning yellow. If they are always green...you aren’t sending as hot of signal as you should! In case anyone wants to know!
@@Tdonn25 that is awesome news and so glad you enjoy the channel :-) I would check for sure if the PC is on the latest firmware just to be safe. Sometimes they don't ship with the latest and that could clear up any potential problems.
Hi! Been searching/tweeking for this tone for a while now with my Line 6 HD 500X. But dont know if Helix can reach this tone. ruclips.net/video/W4CclJ_7JOc/видео.html And this at 1:10 ruclips.net/video/y53gNsCHrPQ/видео.html

You need the L6 link cable. Or a 110ohm AES/EBU (same thing). In my case, Sweetwater was out of the L6 link and sent me an AES/EBU cable that was 10’ longer for same price! With that cable you can change speakers and input levels, and even some other settings on Powercab per preset! It’s fantastic
User IR selects IR's in the Powercab not in the Helix.
I was going to ask that question! :)
Ahhhh...YES!!! I can't believe I said it was in the Helix...THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing that out ....I will pin this comment to the top 😀

It is done with the Line 6 link connection using an AES/EBU digital cable.

So when are we gonna start having end to end bundles in marketplace? A Variax, Helix powercab zone.
Not a bad idea Alec :-)
Do you get the Line 6 products free for your RUclips videos and promotions?

I will try and look into all of that. I haven't had the chance to try any of that yet, but will try and get to it shortly :-)
Numpty question probably, but would you feed to the PA from the PowerCab or the Helix?... Great videos by the way!!
I feed from the Powercab.
You could do it either way :-)
Also works well if you feed from the helix to the pa then send monitor out from pa to powercab in monitor mode.

cool stuff Jason
Thank Stephen :-)
Very nice. I hope line 6 will model the DigiTech Drop pedal on their next update 😥😥😥😥
Thanks so much and yes that would be a good addition :-)

Sorry to hear that Todd, I haven't had that problem. Is your firmware up to date on both Helix and PowerCab?

Is HX stomp compatible with this feature ?? or just the big elix?
Just the big Helix...
This is Great 👍
Thank you so much Gene :-)
snapshots works for the speakers!!! this thing cant ship soon enough
Yeah it is pretty cool :-)
So I need a specific L6 Cable or is it just a high end XLR cable ??
Yes, recommend. Any AES EBU cable works.
i bought a hosa AES EBU 25 foot cable off amazon for 25 bucks
Hello people. can anyone explain how this connection works?
More in depth video im sure will be on the way
a tweekers dream lol...
Loads of possibilities now :-)
Hi!
Been searching/tweeking for this tone for a while now with my Line 6 HD 500X. But dont know if Helix can reach this tone.

And this at 1:10
ruclips.net/video/y53gNsCHrPQ/видео.html
I don't see why Helix wouldn't totally nail both those tones.

I said per preset...I meant PER SNAPSHOT which is way cooler!
