Generally I felt US people are much more friendly and easy going. Disagree on the racism part, soon after finishing high school, I travel by bus from msia to enter Singapore, the stare and look, word used by my own fellow msians working there as immigration security guard or officer is so rude. Same year I moved on to the US, the feel I got there are much more relaxed and sensible.
@@Cincololol sorry that you actually experienced racism. But like you mentioned, the racism was attributed to 'fellow msians'. So I guess you guys have to work harder on your part. Most Singaporeans aren't that racist though there are some who overtly do so. No nationality is perfect anyway. Since you had lived and worked here in Singapore, you would have noticed some differences in the ways Singaporeans and Malaysians behave. Most true blue Singaporeans who went through the Singapore education system since young really treasure the racial harmony that we have here. I even think our harmony is one of the best in the world. Me vs Us. The individual 'freedoms' in the US vs the needs of the group in Singapore. Great examples of these systems in play can be shown in both healthcare and education. Both these systems are intended to benefit the country as a whole, but can also highlight the divide between the 'Haves' and the 'Have-nots'. Mind you with 5.9 million people vs 330+ million, this also plays into the equation as well.
I do not think that population matters, for these policies are very scalable. Especially with a country with such tax revenue. Rather it is the gov attitude and competency. In the case of education, it is because how it is divested to individual state, I suppose.
@@Jinkypigs I agree that the policies should be scalable, but I get the impression that it is not the case (US). You only have to compare their public health system, their educational system, and even their roading infrastructure to realize that it falls short of ideal.

Hi Koala, To me both country are great, sure both have pros and cons. So to me Singaporean are very conservative, Americans can be quite straightforward and informal in their style of conversation. Like what peoples always say you can't have both way.😉😉😉😉😉😉
The main difference between US and Singapore is that in Singapore the government runs the country and is powerful. The capitalists have no power. In US, the government has little power and the capitalists dictate to the government how the country is run. If you want peaceful, well organized , efficient system, then Singapore is a good place to live and work and if you want the opposite, then US is the Country for you.
Funny thing is most Americans think they have real freedom bcos they could talk trash about their government anytime. But it's the capitalists instead who had the real freedom bcos like you said, they dictate the government and that's why the US has no real gun reforms despite having endless mass shootings and no affordable healthcare and tertiary education bcos the government takes care of these capitalists interests at expense of the American citizens. And I would say, freedom of speech is kind of like a pacifier for babies. It makes you feel better after you threw your tantrum at the government but NOTHING could really change.
Well... From my point of view, it's all about the Westerns and Asians culture practice... For an example, I spend 8 hours of working everyday for 5 days in a week and I spend most of my weekend time on my hobbies ever since my childhood... Car modifications and racing in the track is my passions and my parents knew it very well but when comes to purchasing any cars for track purpose or daily use, even though I'm well versed when comes to cars and purchasing with my own money but no matter what I will still acknowledge my parents and listen to their opinions before placing my order and if their opinions doesn't got nothing to do with my capabilities to own the car, I will proceed purchasing it... The reasons of me informing my parents is just a matter of respect them as elderly while they are still alive and appreciate their guidance assistance and responsibilities to who I am now....
I hope you are feeling OK now from your booster shot! Hmmm, "tidy and organised". Then I am a super good fit here. My partner calls me the human broom, ha ha! Your analysis is very perceptive, Koala. Singapore vs America If I would have to put it should be Singapore no.1 vs American first. Both countries have strong economy but with different life styles. Professionals in America and a middle class blue collar can own and live in a single family home own 2 cars and enjoy a lovely vacation every year. They have retirement funds unemployment funds disability benefits and etc…from the government. They behave differently because they have money lots of space and a wonderful life😉😄
We need to work 40 quarters which equal to 10 years employment paying social security taxes in order to receive retirement funds. Don’t forget to file a tax return by April 15😉 You’ are eligible to receive covid checks and unemployment benefits to file a minimum tax income paying only social security. Take care!

It will take more than a decade. But would be good to have a multi-polar world ba.ance again. Not that either gov will be benevolent, but at least it will be a check against each other.
The only difference between Singapore or any other countries is based on only one thing - You follow me (US) you are right. If not, you are wrong and better change to my liking.
It really depends on the circumstances and the kind of person you are..I'm a Singaporean. If my family is in the way of harm e.g. a speeding pmd/cyclist knock into my child, I will just punch the person first and make sure he suffers worse than my child. No apology needed.
Everything in Singapore sounded great except for one thing you're not getting me to join the army 🪖 I do like the idea of getting a fine if you throw your trash anywhere sounds like Singapore is a nice clean place also like her parents really take care of you until you're married but I still prefer to live here

It’s all about what you prefer and what is more suitable for you. I can’t live in a western country although I am a westerner. I prefer Asia 100%. The USA is overrated and I feel the racial tensions that have always been there have grown even more in the last 15 years. These tensions combined with gun ownership and the arrogant, aggressive, bully personality of Americans just make things worse. Moreover the USA although is the world superpower has an appalling education system. Universities are good but primary and secondary schools create people who can’t compete with graduates of other countries especially Asia. Also the USA is a universe on its own. Most people in the USA have no idea about foreign affairs, about what is going on in the world, these Americans can’t even find a continent on a map. The ignorance is truly appalling in the USA. Even young people in universities have no idea what’s happening in the outside world. I was in the USA and I am very happy I am out. I really don’t miss it at all.
Reminds me of the prevalent attitude in the US during WWII pre-Pearl Harbour, ie. that war is Europe's problem, let's not get involved. Until Pearl Harbour happened.
*Great episode but still the entire Asia especially SG must always be grateful and acknowledge the significance of USA existence in this region cos it is the fact that USA liberated Asia during WW2 and its the Western that brought civilisation and unity and technology and legislation into the Eastern and evidently its USA that lifted Sg from a third world slum into becoming the first world and reputable country and let me be honest that no other country in this world can ever measure up to USA but Gun control issue in USA is extemely wrong and that will always make it a dangerous place to live in*
@@TheKrazyKoala You can say that I am Asian externally but deep inside I am very Western so I got the taste of both worlds and not to gloat when I say that I am so well rounded about Sg Asian culture so as the USA way of beings since I follow closely everything about USA political entertainment and every national issues since many decades ago and I know the ties that bind USA with Sg and also the entire Asia but ultimately I love both Sg and USA in many ways 💕
I would love to live in the US if not for the gun issues lol, since they have freedom to do anything they want and their average house size is much bigger. I don't exactly agree with the USA government but I still like USA overall .
Haha. Hardly. I will say we were saved incidentally because of japan's foolish decision to attack usa. But yeah we can give them that. But don't pretend they are doing it purely benevolently. And no usa did nothing to help Singapore. Lee kuan yew even famously has to warn them to hands off with their cia clandestine activities. This does not negate the harm usa gov have wrought worldwide with its incessant involvement with wars and invasion and bungling many of them, resulting in worst outcome for the people of those countries. Not to mention that despite the bungling but the associated usa company always comes out with huge profit. And you do know that with the unclassified documents, it is clear that usa cia and military experimented on their own people without consent. And the government( esp GOP in the last few decades) favours big budget for military but wants to dismantle safeguard for the other agencies that helps and protects the citizens, including public education, public utilities, parks, consumer protections etc. And you forgot the rampant corruption that exist because of their legal bribery channel via lobbyists. And their racism by a big segment of people, the poverty level for the truly poor, the proportion of poor, neglect of their public utilities and infrastructure, their poor medical care outcome ... the list goes on. No country can measure up to usa? Haha. Dude the usa ain't a patch on scadnivian countrues (despite what you may think of them, they are much better than usa) and top Asian countries. Not if you actually cares about quality of life of citizens

I don’t know where or what milieu you lived in the in the US- but as an American I will say Many families help their children with college fees, if possible. There are saving accounts specifically for this for most middle class families. Also- there’s lots of socialising- going for coffee, getting together for dinners, going for lunch. Perhaps your own reticence was a factor in your perceptions.
It is utterly sad that you have to set up a special account in order for going into a LOCAL university, it is as if your gov doesn't care about the education level of your people, not even as an workforce. It points to short sightedness or worse, utter negligence. In Singapore, we really need to save up for university only if we wants to go overseas for our further education, for our local unis are heavily subsidised, as it should be. I can't say much about socialising, but when I was there for holiday, I don't see much lunch crowd at all. Unlike here where you see hordes of office workers going for lunch in groups. That is what koala is talking about.
Bottom line is...no perfect place. But a significant percentage of Singaporeans want out for some of the reasons you cited. Rated most unhappy country in some surveys despite prosperity, not sure why. Basically many think it is restrictive like u said. Overall US considered one of the most desirable country to migrate to despite its many problems. Singapore scores high still too.
koala i think you a wrong. until you are not pr in singapore nobody will take care of your pension or retirement plan. and thats my big problem. i have plans to move to singapore but i cannot because i need the contribution years in the german pension insurance. sg will not take care of me. and i dont want to be poor when i retire
Asians generally find authoritarianism something natural. Westerners grow up subscribed to Democracy. Very different. Slave Driving is effective in Asia but not so much the west. Asians say No Choice what. So they do not fight it. Westerners are vocal even if the problem is hard to solve.
Democracy? When 1/3 of the population don't even care enough to vote? Dude it is these usa people who thinks that it is useless to vote and has given up. On the other hand, we have strong and vocal opinions about our government and over 95% of our population turns out for the vote. The penalty for not voting here is just that you will be taken off the voterroll and will need to write in to be reinstated .. and it will always be approved. The difference is that our government actually is competent and think this through and makes it easy for people to vote by having many ballot boxes, by putting the voting day on weekends or it will be declared a public holiday, by issuing national id that is very easy to replace etc. And you see the government try to do something stupid and mismanaged their policies and you see us showing our displeasure like we did in 2011 and 2006 and that sent the gov in a panic. Gross generalisation never match the actual situation on the ground dude.

Haha.
i'm so glad to see you guys are having some good conversation here!

Well, China 1.2 Billion vs USA 330+ Million

I do not think that population matters, for these policies are very scalable. Especially with a country with such tax revenue.
Rather it is the gov attitude and competency. In the case of education, it is because how it is divested to individual state, I suppose.
@@Jinkypigs I agree that the policies should be scalable, but I get the impression that it is not the case (US). You only have to compare their public health system, their educational system, and even their roading infrastructure to realize that it falls short of ideal.
I believe the main reason for the difference is culture, very difficult to compare...Your observations are very true though.

You forgot the most important point of all....HEALTHCARE! That is the main reason why we choose to stay in Singapore rather than take up residency in the US, even though we have a house in California. Good luck to you if you fall sick in the US and don't have health insurance.
yes healthcare!! and education!
Yeah. And safety and the rising racism of the far right. Usa is a beautiful country. Can't say that for their gov and their competence, though it does differ from state to state.

Hi Koala,
To me both country are great, sure both have pros and cons. So to me Singaporean are very conservative, Americans can be quite straightforward and informal in their style of conversation. Like what peoples always say you can't have both way.😉😉😉😉😉😉
Good morning Dennis! glad that you enjoy this video!
We are the product of a rojak culture. A fusion of multiracial, East n west culture.
That's probably our identity and makes us unique.

The main difference between US and Singapore is that in Singapore the government runs the country and is powerful. The capitalists have no power. In US, the government has little power and the capitalists dictate to the government how the country is run. If you want peaceful, well organized , efficient system, then Singapore is a good place to live and work and if you want the opposite, then US is the Country for you.
thanks for your insights sharing!
So do you have to pay Singapore taxes if you are already paying US taxes ?
Yes
Wow thank you for your comments 🐨👍that’s very detailed of sharing

Professionals in America and a middle class blue collar can own and live in a single family home own 2 cars and enjoy a lovely vacation every year. They have retirement funds unemployment funds disability benefits and etc…from the government. They behave differently because they have money lots of space and a wonderful life😉😄

I really don’t miss it at all.
exactly you are right!! i used to prefer US, now i prefer Singapore

Hi Boba, are you Singaporean or American?
@@TheKrazyKoala You can say that I am Asian externally but deep inside I am very Western so I got the taste of both worlds and not to gloat when I say that I am so well rounded about Sg Asian culture so as the USA way of beings since I follow closely everything about USA political entertainment and every national issues since many decades ago and I know the ties that bind USA with Sg and also the entire Asia but ultimately I love both Sg and USA in many ways 💕
I would love to live in the US if not for the gun issues lol, since they have freedom to do anything they want and their average house size is much bigger. I don't exactly agree with the USA government but I still like USA overall
.
Haha.

America in my eyes has gone down hill , Singapore has gone UP hill . Big difference.
😁😁😁👍
I don’t know where or what milieu you lived in the in the US- but as an American I will say Many families help their children with college fees, if possible. There are saving accounts specifically for this for most middle class families. Also- there’s lots of socialising- going for coffee, getting together for dinners, going for lunch. Perhaps your own reticence was a factor in your perceptions.
Nothing is absolute. Just in comparison.
Singapore is dearer))
😁👍
US has freedoms and civil rights. Singapore is like Saudi Arabia.

Asians generally find authoritarianism something natural. Westerners grow up subscribed to Democracy.
Very different. Slave Driving is effective in Asia but not so much the west. Asians say No Choice what. So they do not fight it. Westerners are vocal even if the problem is hard to solve.
great observation!
@@TheKrazyKoala great minds think alike 😄
