- Slambo's audio system gets an upgrade with a JVC KW-V20BT double din LCD head unit. This DVD receiver includes hands-free Bluetooth, USB input, Pandora integration, SiriusXM capability, and AppLink.
Applink allows the unit to display a handful of popular Apps on the LCD screen. I take a quick run through Waze, DashCommand, and I Heart Radio in this Ain't Fuelin' behind-the-scenes segment.

I bought a used trick that has this radio in it and had no idea if did some of this stuff. It's an awesome radio none the less
look up the mini battery tray and small battery kits for the civic..still runs all ya stuff and drops 15 to 20 lbs off the car sprung weight
I can't figure out how to get the list of songs from a CD, or Bluetooth music to come on. I can see the song playing and I can go back and forward but I'd like to see the list of music.
Wonder if there is any headunits that you can actually use touchscreen to control phone
I swapped a much newer (2013 model) 22 inch Acer from monitor that is 1080 progressive scan for a 32 inch JVC (2005 model)1080 Interlaced and would not go back, there is not much difference once the setting are adjusted right, if at all! I will take the size over a hair of more sharpness if even that as at first I thought it was a bad deal until I realized bigger screen needs bigger text so set my windows default to medium (125%) for text and wha-la, back to perfect! I would not go back. I freaking love JVC, especially their d-ila (silicone on crystal) technology (like looking out a clean window & 1080-P) they are bringing this technology back, I still own a 61" one of these d-ila's and it is on the same bulb with daily use since late 2005. Incredible? I reset the bulb counter about 7 times now without swapping the bulb itself. It is also light, invest in JVC stock now, they are coming back out with this beautiful patented technology and now they made it small enough to be wall hang-able to compete with Plasma's, LCD's & LED's. JVC's never break! I stand behind them till the end!...
I Cant send files like pics for background etc via usb from an android phone is that normal? I thought only apps where the issue with android... help

I'm very interested on this unit however what I want some Pioneer cheaper units do (which are not touch screen). I'm interested on the DIN 2 touch format because I think it looks way better on the car.
The features I want are: Bluetooth for talking and audio. USB Music, Direct conection to the phone for music (mini jack etc).
There are cheaper devices of Pioneer but they're of course not touch screen and only have this features.
What features do you think this device offers me that make this a better choice aside of the luxury that the touch screen is? (Note; I've got an Android device).

Strange, my older model JVC KW-61BT shows iHeart, Pandora, iRadar, tunein, google play and many more from apps. Also can play youtube videos on the screen with jailbroken ipod. It's a great unit for the price.
Wow great video I hadn't realized how far car-audio tech has come in the last few years... Waze is also one of my favorite apps especially when your on high traffic roads and fellow wazers report the hidden cops.
It's amazing what you can get for $300 these days. I used Waze to navigate through Brooklyn on a madcap dash to JFK earlier this spring. Crowd-sourced traffic reports are wicked cool.
THANKS, i was really considering this Receiver but needed more info. after watching your video i am sold on it. i am going to be putting it in My 93 del sol, i love the idea of putting new technogly in a old car, and doing so making it look OEM. i also put in a Push start button from a S2000. ill make a video after im done. i have just a few questions can i use the waze app and listen to music in the background while using app? can i use other app like for instants Google maps, or can i only use the apps on jvcs website? lastly do i have to install apps on the receiver as well or just on the phone? thank alot for making video !
Only the apps designed for AppLink will work. They are only installed on the iPhone (not the receiver). Last week, I was streaming music while running Waze and my iPhone 4S overheated and shut down. I was 100 feet from an Interstate highway exit. :O
How's the navogation working? Is it ok, flowless...?

I just bought that head unit and the install went fine but i have a few issues with it.
1) Iphone 5 audio wont play through the usb cable. I can see the album artwork, see the song tags and see the time stamp rolling but no audio playback. Works fine through bluetooth. Tried 2 different iphone 5, same result
2) compatible apps wont show up in the app section
3) I have a sienna and i don't know which wire i have to connect for the dimmer in the car.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are issues with this head unit and the iPhone 5. AFAIK the full feature list only works with older phones. I don't know if JVC will (or can) address it with a software update.
I didn't connect that extra wire when I installed the unit. But I'm getting ready to add a $20 rearview camera, and I'll probably connect it when I have the dash apart. It's a handbrake wire, if I recall correctly. Gotta check that manual. (Fingers crossed I put it in the glove compartment.)
Will there be an update to do apps on iPhone 5 or no and I should I through this thing at a wall? JVc kW v20bt and I use an iPhone 5
kevin brown Dunno! I'll knock on JVC's door after CES. It would be good to get an official word. I'm still using an iPhone 4S and will need to update it at some point ... :/

I need some help i gt the same stereo unit but every time i plug my iphone 5 it wont let me use the app like when i try to use waze it shows NO SIGNAL do i need special cable??

I am having problems with my unit in my car. I've installed everything and everything works fine EXCEPT the iPOD connectivity. I've tried using different cable and 4 different iPODS to connect to the stereo but none of them works. It would show the music and what is playing but there is NO sound coming out of my speakers. I've tried plugging in a usb and it works perfectly fine. Everything works with the stereo but the ipod connectivity. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
Thanks for the kind words, emmanueljorensibal! Are you using the (additional) JVC cable? The unit frustrated me, as well, until I bought their special cable. After that, all was good.
You have to go into the input settings and switch from Ipod to av input.
cheeriomartinez it wouldn't allow me to switch into it. Av input is blacked out. Any other suggestions?_
emmanueljorensibal you have to click on av off first on the main screen as well as for rear source, then go into settings and input and it should let you change it

Yep, it runs Waze! … but the problem is that this unit doesn't support newer iPhones. :( When I upgraded to the iPhone6, applink stopped working. I would like to upgrade to a newer unit, but I'm not sure about support. I need to check on it.

MPGomatic which obd2 module do you recommend for those who have multiple ecosystems? I am thinking of using a nexus 7 but would be nice to allow my iphone as well.
supercooled I have a $20 generic WiFi dongle (it's HUGE) that works okay and a much smaller (and more pricey) OBDLink Bluetooth dongle. WiFi seems to be the way to go for iOS and Bluetooth for Android. My Nexus 7 is cranky... it drops the connection a lot (not sure why). I picked up an OBDII splitter last month to see if it would be possible to run two different devices, but I haven't had much luck with it. :/
I wish I would have done my research on this stereo.its so picky and its so limited to what you can do on it.you can't even use your iPod apps unless jvc approves them and then on top of that you need a special cable... Good video but the stereo could have been better.

Arnaldo E.E. I've been using Dash Command a lot over the last month or so. It can get cranky at times, but it works for the most part. It can get weird about screen orientation and doesn't like to stream music at the same time.

To reduce screen glare buy a .99 anti glare/matte screen protector for a tablet(Nook,Kindle,etc) on eBay & cut to size. Voila. Also prolongs screen life, reduces scratches & use marks

There's a way to do it through the USB hookup. I tried it a while back, but it didn't work. Then I misplaced the manual. D'oh!
350 and it doesnt play dvds??? nor has sd card or usb in? ill buy the $150 chinese one from ebay with all the features

I bought a 25$ radio from china, that has an aux input, bluetooth, usb, and am fm,ive had it for a few months now, works flawlessly, its super light weight, weights like 1/5th of the original 6CD player it had, and does way more than it.I do uber, mostly local miles, barely any highway miles, and every pound I reduce on this car, the better MPGs Ill get on local roads. and for a car that weights like 4700lbs closer to 6000 with me and the car full of passengers, 1lbs goes a long way lol
