  • Ordered our first ever and new Swift Kon-Tiki 784 at the NEC in October 2022. It was the brand new 2023 specification. Al-Ko chassis. We ordered the 180bhp 9 speed Fiat engine upgrade ( its the new Ducato 9 series ), plus we ordered the factory fitted , homologated , detachable tow bar. Our dealer , Salop Leisure actually put the order in June 2022 with Swift, anticipating long lead times. We thought it would be delivered in May 2023, instead it arrived September 2023.
Despite , no quality control from Swift at the factory, we are happy as all the issues can be sorted out. We are not in a rush for the tow bar. Also, the delays meant that Swift actually upgraded some of the interior with the new 2024 changes. The only thing we don't have at cup holders for passengers.
Dealer is fixing all the faults and missing items, but we can use the Moho in the meantime. I forgot to mention in the video that the wireless charger in the hab door shelf doesn't work and a new module is being ordered. Also, basic items like the sink cover were wrong and a panel for an 8 series Kon-Tiki was fitted on a window instead of the 7 series panel.
Having had horse lorries for years I am used to problems and sorting things . However, I am quite shocked that a manufacturer who boasts of quality control in their factory, actually provides none. Would never be allowed in the automotive industry.
I have now inspected underneath the vehicle and will be making modifications to some of the cosmetic panels underneath to tighten, sikaflex and generally stop the rattles going over bumps.
For anyone ordering a Swift Kon-Tiki 784 2024 edition, it will be almost identical to this model. However, dealers are already saying that if you order now at the NEC 2023, you may not get it until the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Thanks for this video. The Kon-Tiki does tick a lot of our boxes!

Very interesting hearing your comments about Swift’s quality control (or lack of!) we’ve just taken delivery of our new 894 and the build quality is shocking. We had the same issue with no tow bar being fitted amongst a multitude of other issues, we returned ours to Swift themselves to sort everything out. Many disgruntled Swift owners out there at the moment!
    Best wishes 👍

Thanks for the review, liked you comments on the quality issues, we had 5 problems on a new baily, how is that even possible in this day and age

Thanks for your comments . Went away this weekend and just found more issues . Have emailed my dealer . 3 electrical faults and the Hab door manual lock doesn’t work . Love the motorhome and the Fiat base vehicle but Swift quality control is shocking . The dealer shouldn’t have to be fixing shoddy build and assembly by the motorhome assembler . Still , almost there . Having big electrical upgrade end of month by Bluefix Energy . Will video when done.

Drives brilliant . Hope you liked the insights . Am so glad I got the engine upgrade . Went to Snowdonia the other week and it had no issues going up the steep mountain roads .

Lovely van. I'm sure if you look online, you can disable the auto re-locking feature. Otherwise consider getting a basic skeleton key cut at your local ironmongers and screw it underneath the van somewhere. Hope you enjoy it.

Thinking of adding a key safe to the chassis

Looks lovely! Shame about the poor fit of Front Mudguards to wing! I got Genuine Peugeot ones and perfect fit! We got very strong 'Mirror Guards' that have Crash Helmet Technology and are very strong! Those Milenco ones are pretty weedy! As you said pretty poor having so many defects for the money you've spent! I hope you have some great times in the Van!

Tried differant ways of fitting the Fiat guards but they just don’t align . Have seen others with the same and the same problem . They do give protection . If they eventually have to be replaced I will try Peugeot ones . Thanks for tip

Hi Eddie thanks for your video. We picked up our Swift Kontiki 784 in February it is a 23 with 24 updates. Our parking sensors have never worked our dealer is 3 hours away. The dealer fit a tow bar before we picked it up. Can you tell me where the sound comes from when you put it in reverse? (Manual says it’s under drivers side bed base )but we’ve found nothing We are trying to see if it is an easy fix, as in something loose.

    • @EddieHulme

The sound seems to come from behind the panelling on the right side on the drivers side of the cab . It beeps when you put it in reverse . Mine didn’t work initially . However following my towbar install by the dealers they started to work . Firstly , if a sensor is faulty all sensors won’t work . It is an easy fix for dealer . They can test each individual sensor . If it is not the sensors then it’s probably the towbar electrics that is the problem . All told this is a dealer warranty problem that they should fix for you . Personally , I am not convinced with the sensors . Prefer mirrors , camera and checking where I am reversing into . The sensors don’t always detect things like fencing you may back toward .

Thought I’d give you an update on our non working reversing sensors. The audible beeper has never been fitted ! So they would never work

We have the same van but have been wondering how to mount the TV. Could you share some pictures of your installation?

Will do . Will post in a day or so as I have dropped the Moho into secure storage but it’s only 10 mins away so I will get photos and video Wednesday as I am going to the NEC tomorrow. Dealer fitted the tv bracket. He added a piece of board the same as the board they use for the inside wall by the door so it all matches . It’s the unit the fridge is in. . Tv bracket is attached to that . Don’t fit the bracket direct to the wall/cabinet that fridge is in . Bracket holds over 7kg . My tv , 24 inch weighs just over 3kg .

@@pauldyer2064 - I was at the NEC yesterday. They didn't have a 784. However I took a look in the Swift Ton-Tiki's they had there. I noticed that Swift are now NOT installing 5g wifi routers. They are putting the cheapest ZTE Compact + 4g LTE in the new models. I spoke to the people at Motorhome Wifi and they said they took over the contract earlier this year with Swift from Huawei. Swift have not contracted to supply the latest 5g wifi module. If you take a look at the information Swift are now supplying, whereas in 2022 for the 2023 models they were saying they were providing 5g. They are not saying that now. It's madness when 5g is everywhere and the modules are available. My dealer has put in the ZTE ultra as shown here www.motorhomewifi.com/our-products/5g-ready-packages/

Was considering a Swift as my next purchase. ‘Was’ being the operative word after watching this. A phrase with ‘bargepole’ springs to mind now. Appalling, simply appalling for the money you’ve paid out.

Seems to be the thing with motorhomes that you end up snagging the conversion . Our dealer is great . Swift a coach-builder , a disgrace . They say they have a QA process . Not in our case . I have heard Bailey are just as bad . At least the Fiat Ducato and the Alko Chassis is ok .

Must be a trick of the light , there is no damp. We have paid around £10k less than current pricing. Having waited a year and we actually love the van and layout, we are happy for the dealer to resolve the snags. We have a good dealer . Having owned horse lorry conversions for years we are used to resolving problems ourselves . Wasn’t expecting to sort things out on a new vehicle though. Swift make a big play about their quality control . My experience , it’s non existent . But I hear the same about other UK manufacturers.

Hi Eddie just an update on our 784 and the fact the reverse sensors don’t work well … turns out Swift have not fitted the audable speaker/bleeper the wires are there hanging loose behind panel ! We also have an issue with the fresh water drain being too low and has fell off on multiple occasions on normal motorways
