VINwiki Hey Rob, love all the funny stories but what is the worst car deal(s) ever? Ever refused to sell a car to a shady person? Thanks, I’ll be tuned in tmrw for sure! Thanks.
The presence, the rarity, the following/community behind it, it's what makes the car what it is. Each time I look for DeLoreans that are for sale, I cry when I see the prices for a nice one. A barn yard find would be the way to go with these things
OK, former DeLorean owner here - bought it brand new, had it for 8 years. Close to zero problems; only thing other than normal maintenance I remember doing was replacing the door struts after three or four years. - Although I have to admit it was garage kept and babied; unlike Casey I did not take it out in the snow, etc. I made two modifications that made a huge difference; installed a turbo (still a pig off the line but not too shabby at all once you hit 3000 RPM). - And hey, after three years I bought a new 1986 Porsche 944; it had 147HP to the DeLorean's 130, and the DeLorean was lighter! People forget what 1980's "performance" was really like. The other thing I did was change the springs to lower it, I think it was 2-1/2". That car was 44" high at the roof and looked AMAZING! There was plenty of room in the wheel wells and it didn't even seem to affect the ride. I've owned almost 50 cars starting in the seventies until now, everything from Mercedes 450SL's, Audi Quattro Coupe, Dodge Stealth Turbo, Porsche 944's and 928's, Cadillac XLR, Ferrari 360 Spider, and many more; I would rank the DeLorean in the top five in all categories.
And by the way, Casey - you say the DeLorean owners have heard all the jokes. How about this one, for those of you who are old enough to remember the scandal when John Delorean was arrested in an FBI sting for possession of cocaine, which he intended to sell to try to save the company: after it went down I immediately applied for and got the license plate "SNORT" and had a frame made that said "Things go better with Coke". There was nothing more fun than stopping at a light and watching the faces in the car behind me as they approached; first "Ooo, a DeLorean" and then especially when they got got close enough to read the plate and the frame. (I made sure to NEVER carry ANYTHING in the car that could have the slightest resemblance to cocaine, but believe it or not I was never stopped.) I had that plate for years until one of the concerned mothers on the street where I lived complained and the D.O.T. recalled it.
Haha! Good stuff! I’ve actually always thought they were a great looking car, but have always scratched my head at the HP spec, good to hear they are upgradeable, that certainly ups the appeal to me.

@@heavyhanded1782 Did you not hear what the man said? Everything in the early 80s was slow, even the Ferraris. Emissions regs of the time had a lot to do with it. So, yeah, other cars from other times are better in some ways. Wow, imagine that. As for the springs, the ride height thing was a purposefully implemented screw to hold up the DeLorean in production. No time or budget to redo, taller springs it is.

Casey can you make a list of all the cars you have owned? You’ve had such an electric collection over the years that you always pull out a surprise when you’re on here!
Great vid Casey. I do have one DeLorean fact for ya. Ever seen a crash test on one? Def not a safe car. Great vid fun cars none the less. “ Your Friend in Time” Doc Brown...... I mean Rob lol couldn’t resist 😂
I bought a parts Delorean that was t-boned by a Cadillac going 45mph. The Delorean owner walked away without a scratch. These cars are safer than you think.
The thing that I like about the DeLorean DMC-12 is the fact that it was featured in BTTF my all time fave movie. But what makes it even more special is that it's one of those "rare Exotic" looking cars. In reality when you look at them now, the DMC-12s that are have been produced and left the factory before it shut down are kinda scarce now a days. Let's say this DeLorean made 50,000 DMC-12s, but today 1/3 of them are trashed/gone, 1/3 are stock factory versions, and 1/3 are BTTF time machines. So that would mean that these cars are one of those sought after ones for collectors ether cause of BTTF/pop culture or just cause they like the odd quarkyness of the car. Despite what the movies say the Delorean is actually a slow car and can't really go that far past 80MPH.
I think the thing that surprises me the most is that the vast majority people think they are telling me things about my car that I didn't know. They don't even consider that, as an owner and therefore most likely a pretty thoroughly invested fan, I may be an expert on the topic, and they should just be asking questions. I would never walk up to another classic car owner and attempt to educate them about their car. But there's something about this car that people can't help doing just that. And it's almost always wrong. So what's the best part about other people's reactions? The smiles in my rearview mirror, and the cameras that float up out of their laps. They found a unicorn, and they want to be able to prove it. It makes me happy.
@@luketeverino6085 When he was in high school, you could get a damn nice one for 10k... He's the same age I am. Further, there are always kids with some daddy money that get whatever they want. Casey is right up there with the best storytellers on VINwiki. I may be a bit biased since he just talked about DeLoreans and I absolutely freaking love them. It's clear that he truly appreciates them, probably even more than I do, and that's awesome. The gullwing doors are awesome, they fit the design so well. Same with the stainless steel panels, and the magnificently boxy yet sleek design that looks like it was created at least a decade after 1980. Seriously, how futuristic must this car have looked back in 1980? And I can't help but absolutely LOVE those square headlights (I normally hate square sealed beam headlights and prefer round ones but they work PERFECTLY in this car and are a testament to how good design can make otherwise benign things look great). Aside from the front height of the US cars, which is absolutely wrecked by the taller springs, this is an amazing-looking car which manages to somehow combine a number of bizarre design elements along with hints of more traditional design in a way that truly makes not just a great-looking car, but a very unique one at that, one that both encapsulates a time period and somehow transcends it completely. There will never be another DeLorean. I really hope one day I will own one, and modify it so that it has more power than it did originally because that amount of power just ain't enough for the car.
@@CaseyPutsch I am entirely embarrassed to say that I didn't realize you had a RUclips channel and I'm immediately subscribing and clicking on the bell to remedy my error. Thank you for reading my comment!
I tried to buy one in the 90's. At the time I was training for the World Strong Man compaction. At 430 lbs I was to big for the little car. I couldn't get the door shut, It hit my shoulder with six inched short of closing. Fast forward to today I've shrunk to 260 lbs; I might try again.
I was at a Concour de Elegance at Stanford University. We ended up seeing a DeLorean in the parking lot with a "BKNTYME" license plate. I wish that was in the show. Yes, I got a picture of it too!
FYI - They have Stainless steel frames now, the engine was okay... I have had my car up to 135Mph before, but it doesn't have a ton of off the line speed. There has been a few guys that have put in the corvette engine into the back of DeLoreans. I am currently planning an engine swap myself to a Cummins R2.8 crate engine! Once I do that we will really see what that baby can do!
i am glad that you were honest with the review. yes they were not fast but they are great cars. You can do alot to the engine now to make it a bit more powerful with the stage 2 and stage 3 upgrades you can do makes it more powerful and better. Alot of tech has come along way since it was built and you can make it a very great car.
The DeLorean is the greatest use of gull wing doors ever and its still an awesome car even today (definitely on my list of the top 10 cars of all time)
I miss my DeLorean too, but he's right they can be great daily drivers. I had megasquirt ecu, Badger ITB's, custom thinner head gaskets, custom headers and cams and it was a blast to drive. The sound was amazing too and most thought I swapped a new motor because it had such a distinct sound. If anyone is interested I still have the ECU, ITB's and sensors ;-)
I spaced out for a minute at the end... "What's the best joke to tell a DeLorean owner?" ... ... ... "I like your car." Dunno what came in between but that punchline had me in stitches.
There’s a completely “unique” rich hermit out here on Long Island who has about 20 or so immaculate deloreans. Being born in ‘82 they were just so cool to me as well and to this day I still drive by his outdoor private lot every now and then to check out his collection! #NerdsUnite
Owning a Delorean is like frying bacon without a shirt on. Father bought one new in 82. It arrived on a flatbed after the engine overheated. I was 18 ans we kept it up until he said enough was enough and iirc dumped it at 1/2 price. Remember in 82 money the DMC was a $60 grand car. In 2007 I found one and against my better judgement bought a rare early vin/blk int/manual/gas flap hood etc.. Despite what some say, as with most vintage cars you are never truly DONE. However with the internet, aftermarket and a new popularity it is possible as I have to keep one running. But as with a supermodel or a swimming pool, it's best that your friend have one and you are able to borrow it once in a while.
I used to service 2 separate customers back in the late 90's had these things, love em. Wheels being a b#*#h to clean is the only issue for me. I actually may consider one in "future" after kids are all set.
Someone solved that, too. Sonax Plus. Spray, wait, hose-- perfect. Check out the RUclips videos on this stuff. I only use this on my DeLorean's 45 ribs per wheel.
@@CaseyPutsch actually quite appreciate you making this video because I was under the misconceptions that the DeLorean was an unreliable underpowered terrible car. Much like my dilapidated 97 Plymouth Breeze that I drive everyday. Just out of curiosity what do you think is more iconic the DeLorean or the Trans Am maybe specifically the one from Smokey and the Bandit?
I just watched the new movie "driven". Then, after watching this video I decided I would really like to have one. I would upgrade the few things it needs and PAINT IT. Why not? just because it's stainless doesn't mean you can't be different. It's actually a good looking car and I bet it can be made to really run fast too, so I WANT ONE.

That has hover mode and fly mode but you need a mobile operation center and don’t forget it has missiles
God i love Casey's charisma. I just want to be friends with this dude.
I spaced out for a minute at the end...
"What's the best joke to tell a DeLorean owner?"
...
...
...
"I like your car."
Dunno what came in between but that punchline had me in stitches.
I swear if he mentions anything about running from terrorists with an RPG I'm getting this man an award
Maxxas Crow next time! :)
There’s a completely “unique” rich hermit out here on Long Island who has about 20 or so immaculate deloreans. Being born in ‘82 they were just so cool to me as well and to this day I still drive by his outdoor private lot every now and then to check out his collection!

I want to see vinwiki on pka again
I’m a big 80’s car guy also. Owned many cool cars from that time.
It's definitely an iconic ride, I would love to have one still
Came from Donut Media about Gold plated DMC.
Last time I was this early, there was still a bench warrant in the system for DJ.
Donut and VinWiki publishes DeLorean videos on the same day....car guy heaven!
Watches video. Searches “DeLorean for sale”
If I‘d ever be a millionaire, I‘d buy a DeLorean and put in a P100D drivetrain. And I‘d slap the Bttf 2 modifications on it. 🥰
I only use this on my DeLorean's 45 ribs per wheel.
this just makes me want a DeLorean even more
You definitely need to add a black and decker on one of those bad boys!!
Top 3 best story tellers on this channel. What a life this guy has lived! Can't wait for the next one Casey!
johnhager2011 thank you!
So this guy is a world traveler, racing driver, and DMC DeLorean enthusiast? Sounds like a really interesting guy
doubleutubefan5 thanks and I hope you like my channel too
@@CaseyPutsch actually quite appreciate you making this video because I was under the misconceptions that the DeLorean was an unreliable underpowered terrible car. Much like my dilapidated 97 Plymouth Breeze that I drive everyday.
Just out of curiosity what do you think is more iconic the DeLorean or the Trans Am maybe specifically the one from Smokey and the Bandit?
You guys should really check out this guys channel and the amazing stuff he does for kids.. no creepy shit just really inspiring..
5:12 had me dead 😂🤣☠️
When Ed and Rabbit get elected in 2020 I hope they nominate Casey to be their chief of staff!
David Hardy deal!
You say they've heard it all, but have they met Rabbit? He's probably got something original up his sleeve.
